People are hesistant to do hard credit pulls. You are correct it only lowers your score around 5 points. However many banks will deny you for credit card and loans if you have too many inquiries. I have a 760 credit score and cannot get any credit cards or loans because of too many inquiries from house shopping last year. Maybe that will provide you with the clarification you need.

My sons mother and I are both on a fixed income, would need down payment assistance have 0 DTI and are starting at 0 credit....We have to get out of the renting world because it's eating most of our money and leaving us without any options or security... What we need is some sort of game plan to make it happen, we aren't looking for expensive, we would like to be able to live below our means comfortably and on our own little slice of land
