Six person jury was because it was not a capital case. A capital case would require 12 jurors. Not an easy job for anyone. She was scared, she just kept it inside. I feel so sad for Doug's daughter Eva. I'd love to see her develop a relationship with Emerson. They are sisters, half sisters.

A major part of why people were not able to connect with or believe Ashley is the lack of fear and heart that came across in her narrative. She had a few examples which people were not able to understand could or would lead to her life being in physical danger. Plus the photos showed no proof. Her explanations were brief -he hurt the dog so he could hurt me. He got scarily angry, so I feared for my life -unfortunately, that’s not enough. People need to feel or see what the victim felt. What lead up to it? How did you live in despair in those moments in between? If the victim doesn’t emote, doesn’t portray that picture with details , then it comes across as flat and made up. On top of that, there were inconsistencies in her behavior and her disposition. Some people don’t like to share the dark parts of their lives. Shame shuts them down. Their bodies freeze when they’re being watched, so they’re unable to reveal that pain. If she was innocent, the true tragedy becomes that her behavior betrayed her in mirroring that of someone who is untruthful, instead of someone who is socially and emotionally broken. May healing come to Eva and her younger sister. Growing up without your parents erases a sense of home in this world.

Gigi-my spouse and brother are both investigators. People lie about so many things including being the victims of domestic abuse. We can’t rely on how we feel, or what an intimate friend went through when examining evidence. Nothing…and I mean nothing…can be taken for granted in these types of situations. You have to verify everything. I don’t understand (and maybe I don’t care to understand) why some people have a problem with this.

Omg, Gigi with STS & Dr G. Some of my favorite creators!!! I'm so happy the jury got this right. After looking into this case & doing some basic research, Ashley was no victim. The victims are the children who no longer have parents. This is sad, regardless. A father, husband, son & veteran is dead, and Ashley is going to prison for a long time. She took away Doug's daughter Eva's ONLY LIVING PARENT out of jealousy. So unnecessary. P.s. get a DIVORCE if you don't want to be with your spouse. This is NOT the way. P.s.s. Ashley and Doug's child need to have relationships with both sides, imo. Alienation is devastating for the kids and the grandparents. Doug's family deserves to know their grandchild. It goes both ways. That child deserves the most love from both sides.

IMO-Many women & men have been abused by partners. Ashley wasn’t one of them. She is manipulative, egotistical, and very immature. Even her walking out of that courtroom after verdict…so staunch… showed pridefulness and no humility or sorrowfulness for what she did to Doug and his family… only an attitude. Not a kind or nice person. Hoping she gets full 30.

The jury compromised and gave her those lesser included. All those people in the chat who are saying she’s not behaving a certain way. The state did NOT prove she didn’t act in self defense. This man actually abused animals - he punched the dog so hard that he knocked him out. He threw the elderly cat down the stairs. On the day he hit her, she thought he would kill her. When she heard the verdict, she was so dejected. Thank goodness for the good doctor.

I had a pretty awful divorce 9+ years ago. It involved an affair, a baby out of wedlock, kidnapping, drugs, etc. that kind of drama. I was even arrested after calling 911 during one of the only fights we ever had because I looked "angry". But never, have I ever thought about taking his life. I can not imagine doing that to our kids. Being a woman myself, I DO NOT believe all women. My brother was shot at by his crazy fiance (1 incident of MANY) and after she threw her diamonds into the lake right after they said their vows, he figured it out. Thank God he left her, but to this day, he is still trauma bonded to her. I pray he never goes back to her. Relationships are complicated. Victims can turn into perpetrators and many things can be true at once. Hugs to everyone dealing with DV, woman AND men both. NO ONE deserves to be abused. ❤stay blessed P.s. Gigi's channel is awesome. She is the only channel that I've seen, that actively offers her own personal help and resources for DV during her live streams. ❤ GiGi @PrettyLiesAndAlibis #PrettyLiesAndAlibis

Dan Markel's parents got a law passed in Florida> to allow custody/visitation for G.Parents when a parent is guilty/criminally responsible for death of the other parent. Sadly, it's been 10 yrs, & everyone in the conspiracy to kill Dan- OTHER than the ex-wife/mother-has been arrested, &/or tried, for his death. Grandma is on trial next month... hopefully, Wendi is arrested next, RIGHT after she gives testimony in her mother's trial!! They just need to get Wendi before she flees to that house her parents bought (& ALMOST made it to) in Vietnam...

I thought regarding the dog that it was an accidental collision? Nevertheless - I have to say this - If he was harming their animals because she was soooooo caring and it hurt her, then why was Sully with Doug through til the end of his life? Heaven knows where Sully is now? If he was abusing Sully and she was as caring as she claims, then Sully was as dependant upon her as any child and she should have taken Sully with her when she left to protect Sully.

Also regarding the "search: co-parenting with an abusive ex" how come she searched but did not put any of the suggested strategies into action. The common ones include - DOCUMENT everything - she only said what happened - no documentation; distance yourself and keep the relationship distant, impersonal and businesslike- she did the opposite; use co-parenting apps and official parental talk programs so that everything is on the record - she did neither; do not transfer custody directly but use third parties only - she insisted on going on custody trips. look them up.

Gigi-From reading the comments, I have to disagree with you that there is some sort of 50-50 type of split about this outcome. It seems like the majority who followed the evidence thought she was guilty, whereas there appears to be a small (if very vocal) minority that wanted her acquitted for reasons that were largely tangential to the trial. Anyway, that’s my take.
