Crepe paper! It's literally streamers lol we bought extra bold pigmented colored once instead of like light pink we got a deep magenta color and it turned out GREAT.

I can see where food coloring would work. I had a friend back in the 80's that wore a mohawk in bright colors. He told me he used cool-aid to color it.

Another quick way to do it without it staying on to long is to take some markers remove the back and take the ink stick thing out and squeeze the coloring into a bowl with conditioner mix it up and then when the hair dries nice bright colors!!

There is a difference between crepe paper(streamers) and tissue paper. Crepe paper is notorious for staining your hand if it gets wet. It may be more effective for this purpose.

there are temporary hair dyes that aren't chemically, I used to dye my daughters hair pink with the manic panic brand and it washes out nicely.

I just did my hair with Manic Panic Ultra Violet. So easy to use. Just like using a hair conditioning mask only with funky colours.

Seems someone else do it and the kids had like bleach blond hair , so it obviously looks more striking. They also used aluminium to wrap the hair in. Try that!
