this song must have been written for me....lost my husband...we watched for the blue herons who always flew by us and we talked of what that meant to us giving us hope....Thank you so so very much. Its so good. Love your music.

Guess thats how this song works, I lost my wife two years ago and we often took walks on the beach accompanied by instead of blue - white herons. I still make those walks along the beach sometimes , listening to this song - and some others in memory of her.

Can't get enough of this song which goes right through al my nerves and bones. The instruments, the melody, this beautiful voice, the voice of an Angel. Just discovered Sarah - after looking for inspiration to motivate to play the guitar again after 30 years of not playing. - I've found her version of Paul Simons' "Kathy's song" , and decided to do a YT search on Sarah and was blown away instantly by her overwhelming talent. Thank you so much, your voice echoes where ever I am and especially through my living room every day.

Sarah is one of my more recently discovered gems par excellence ( although I know she's been around for quite a while). This beautiful song can bring tears to my eyes EVERY time I listen to it. She has a voice that's on the same incredible level as Emmy Lou or Alison Krauss and a supernatural talent for songwriting and melody. Thank heaven for You Tube 'cos you'd never hear anything of this quality on the trash streaming radio stations of today An absolutely perfect fusion of performance, musical talent and emotion bravo to Sarah and the Punch brothers ... more please ( maybe do a show up here in Vancouver Canada.)

The 26-year-old said audience members will hear a 30-minute song cycle she's calling "The Blue Heron Suite." The work has a couple of motivations. First and foremost, Sarah's mother, Mary, was diagnosed with breast cancer in December, Jarosz said. "It doesn't go into too [many] specifics about what she's gone through, but obviously that's a life-changing experience," the Wimberley, Texas, native said. "We were walking on the coastline. And I wondered if this could be the last time. Then I took your fragile hand into mine. And we talked of all the good times." ... "We were walking on the coastline. And you told me it wouldn't be the last time. Then I took your strong hand into mine. And we walked together in the low tide"

Interesting. It's very pretty music, but I find a complete lack of poetry / depth of lyricism in the song. I can see how it can take one to a lovely place in the mind though, so there's that. But lyrically, it does nothing for me. I find that a lot of this new acoustic music is not really saying much, but it's all very pretty, and very well executed.
@124retlksncvlifvlxiu5 жыл бұрын
Her music paints a very clear picture for me, she melts her heart into a passage of lyric that you can feel to your toes. No matter what the subject, she commands the pictures in my mind and tells me a very defined story. This suite is about her mother’s past health issues and the blue herons she would see on her family vacations.

@@janthomas5147 Does a song need poetry? does it need to be lyricall? To me it's the melody, the way it is played, with what instruments and the way it is sung. (like a painting is painted) I close my eyes when the violin comes in for its solo. For that reason even a Spanish or African song cold touch me the same way this song does. But then again " Blue Heron is fliyng overhead watching over you" got my eyes pretty wet ;)

As someone who has lost both parents to cancer, this song connects on an emotional level. The muted and delicate playing of this stellar band demonstrates the utmost respect to Sarah and her very personal song. Especially Chris, Noam, and Critter, so mindful of not overshadowing her melody. I do agree, the added fiddle part by Gabe enhances this song.

Different strokes for different folks. I find this song simple but moving. I think that her other new song "Painted Blue" is better from a lyrics standpoint. If you're not familiar with Sarah's other music, or that of her 'I'm With Her' bandmates, I would give more of it a listen before deciding it's not saying much. In particular, Aoife O'Donovan might have more of what you're looking for.
