I think what they said happened was the first guy started shooting. The second guy then started shooting at the first guy. And the second guys bullets killed the lady. So the first one is being charged with the murder for starting it. And the second one is being charged because it was his bullets. Doesn't matter if you are defending yourself, you are reasonable for those bullets especially if you returned fire in a reckless manner.
