I saw a social media comment by a person saying they won't watch James Spann because Spann is "politically crazy". Have to wonder why every little damn thing is tied to politics these days.

vr6swp I consider him a 'hero' because he saved a lot of lives that day. To all of the politically correct people-"Kiss my rump!! Screw your politically correctness!!!

Spann certainly isn’t “politically crazy.” The guy is pretty much non-political, at least in public. The closest he gets to being political is discussing his views on climate change.

I don't get it either. I don't live in Alabama, and consider James Spann one of the best. Besides, his job is to give timely information in good weather, and bad...and he's done so big time.

@@rolltidechris I watched an interview with James Spann here on you tube and all he said was he doesn't personally believe climate change is fueling all these storms and events like 4/27/11. He also said it's not his job to debate climate change it's his job to save lives in severe weather situations, that debating climate change and whether it is making severe weather occur more often is for the climatologists to debate and he's absolutely right. He's doing a great job, better than alot of other meteorologists in larger markets(Lonnie Quinn in NYC anyone?)so whoever said he was politically crazy should shut up

I presume at least some of ABC's 2016 Super Tuesday coverage got pre-empted in Birmingham. James Spann gained a national reputation for his live telecast of the historic April, 2011 Alabama tornado outbreak, and this clip shows another example of his talent as a superior meteorologist and his ability to report fast-moving weather news.

Well, the end of the video is the time the polls closed (unless they got extended, I can't remember since I'd already voted before this storm), but other than ending up sharing the news 3 hours later, I don't think it interrupted any major election coverage they might have had (he usually doesn't stay on air (subjectively) TOO terribly long once the threat has passed during prime time hours, but it depends on the situation. Now, had the tornado from just before the start of the video taken just a slightly different path, it could have hit the polling site for my community (that was still open for voting when the storm approached) that's just a bit more to the left on the map, or the businesses around it at the exit they're by, it could have been much, much worse than it was... thankfully no one was killed, though still sad for those few that lost houses and others with varying damage. But if it'd hit the church/polling site... I imagine it would have become the main voting news that night for around here.

They've had one since 1996, unless they got rid of it, and he even put it up to get live video on March 1, 2007 during that severe weather event. He has since said that he won't put one up to get live video of a storm because of how they are usually rain-wrapped and so fast-moving compared to the Plains here, that it is significantly more dangerous.

That is due to how the velocity scan is done. That scan is based on velocity towards and away from the radar tower.

What is Super Tuesday
@brch28 жыл бұрын
One of the presidential primary voting days. We changed our primary voting day up this year and was voting on March 1, and had storms come through that night. Ended up dropping an EF-2 tornado for several minutes or so (it was on the ground right where the radar signature he was circling shows it at the very start of the video). Did quite a bit of damage to a few neighborhoods there. And it came VERY close to the church that serves as my neighborhood's voting site... that was open for voting, which to some extent makes the the Super Tuesday part more relevant than it already was (thankfully that church full of people and the grocery stores/strip malls and other businesses on both sides wasn't hit with all the people out, but sadly another church suffered damage and quite a few houses and other structures were damaged, with a half dozen or so destroyed. Thankfully though it didn't get worse than that, it could have been really bad and maybe deadly if the direction it went had been just slightly different.)

Easiest way to describe it is that during the US Presidential primary season many states around the country conduct primaries on the same day and A LOT of delegates are at stake. If a candidate does really well they can all but wrap up the nomination. with the number of primaries and delegates up for grabs is why they call it Super Tuesday

Dude, really? Are you JOKING?! "I don't have time.." REALLY?! YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME. YOU HAVE TIME TO GO OVER ALL THE COUNTIES/CITIES. IT'S A TORNADO COVERAGE TO KNOW WHAT CITIES ARE GONNA GET HIT. YOU'RE KIDDING, RIGHT??
@steveburtonomaha8 жыл бұрын
I don't think you were really paying attention to what he said. He said that he didn't have time to go over all the cities that were "not in the polygon", which means all the places that were not in the warning. He only wanted to go over all the places that were in the warning, which were the places that had the potential to get hit. Excellent coverage.
@jamessimms4158 жыл бұрын
Supreme Flaming Cyclone Sniper It's the person's personal responsibility to find out if they're in a warned area or not. James has/had the responsibility to warn those inside the warned area to take cover.

What?? No it wasn't. He's one of the best weather people in the country. This just wasn't a crazy tornado outbreak. Watch a major outbreak like April 27 2011 (which is what he gained national attention with) and you will see what he can do.
