Being from Edmonton and having lived in Vancouver before, one of the best things living coastal (to me) was not dealing with mosquitoes!

That was a pleasant surprise for us. You know as well as anyone how bad the mosquitoes can get in Edmonton/Northern Alberta. We don't miss those little bloodsuckers at all! :D

One of the best things I found about the sunshine coast , was not having to deal with impatient big city people . I have been here 20 years and the current influx of people from Vancouver/Toronto and China is making it so I can't water my vegetable garden from July to fall, there are no doctors, traffic jams at 3pm on a wednesday and ever increasing open air drug markets and burglary. I think the town is mismanaged and the current growth is absurd. The value of my home has increased 3x in the past 5 years. Lucky me you think? No just means I pay higher taxes, have less clean water , larger open air drug activity and no affordable rent for local workers and gigantic trucks roaring by 20 hours a day.

Canada is a haven for immigrants from China to park their money. I grew up in Richmond, and every 5 minutes you either see a Lambo or Ferrari with a Chinese kid inside. I am also a local business owner, and I see many "fronts" (Fake storefronts with no one inside) near my location. Those "fronts" will close as soon as they hit the requirement for PR, and the next "front" will take over. You can buy your way into Canada if you have money. Thank our government for corrupting the real estate and immigration system.

No , Mazy is Not kidding !! (hi from Fruitvale friend !)....I had to move away- I literally could not afford to live there as a disabled person- my place too increase but the lack of water thing going on for a decade ...and the crazy housing going in- yes there seems to be no solutions happening...every new council makes a 10 year plan, changing the last one- That place drove me away.... it has changed so much in past 10 years that its hard for the beauty to cloak the ugly anymore....i wish you all the best....

We have a video about grocery prices on the Sunshine Coast here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h52qpneLfpx2fLM In another video, we talked about the current housing crisis we're experiencing: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n6OxXqGaf72YkLM As far as schools go, we don't have kids and don't have much insight about schools on the Sunshine Coast other than a list of names. School District 46 covers the Lower Sunshine Coast. You can find out about schools, programs, etc on their website: sd46.bc.ca/ Hopefully that's a little bit of a help. 😀

Resident view: This podcast 2 years old now. Here is an April 2024 comment. Sunshine Coast BC real estate values are still increasing. So if you have real estate to sell or to rent to someone, you're in luck. If you are buying, what you want to purchase might cost more, fairly soon. A lot of millionaires live here. Many of their nice homes are set back from the roads, and the trees are left in place along the roadsides, so those roads don't seem to change much in appearance as time passes. The shopping malls compare very well to anything one could find in Vancouver. Now here's something. Even although some, like to live with wildlife, some do not. Because losing a garden to deer, or a having a beloved pet menaced by coyotes or, gasp, eagles, is not something to be complacent about. There are currently far too many bears, unafraid of people. This is very dangerous, and they should be removed to the mountains, not sauntering through our kid's play-yards and in peoples' driveways and homes. After all, if you have a really nice home and property, it's a good idea if you can use it in safety. For those who want wildness, there are roads into the mountains. Food? Produce farming, and teaching. Multiple restaurants, pizza deliveries. People of wonderfully diverse ethnic backgrounds share their interesting heritage. Other items, good beaches and Blue Ocean golf course. Children's animal pet farms, and places to become involved with horses. An Equestrian club, also horse riding trails. There are many groups, sports, clubs and activities. Swimming, Skateboarding, and Mountain-bike riding. Antique car shows, Model railroad gather, Gardening club, and a Quilting group. Churches and Support groups. Star study group and Sailing. A great cultural society for music, dance, authors, libraries and art. A variety of careers and professions prosper here. People of all ages find the life-styles that suit them on the Sunshine Coast, BC. And of course, the beautiful scenery, is an added plus.🙂

Disagree about the bears. Part of the charm of the sunshine coast is the access to wildlife and bears tend to be far more afraid of humans than we are of them. If you give them the proper respect they deserve and don't try to bother them then they'll leave you alone. Honestly compared to raccoons, cougars, and wolves, bears are one of the less dangerous animals on the Coast

A bunch of BS regarding wildlife.left alone they don’t pose a danger.the fear mongering when it comes to large wildlife is always when someone sees a bear or cougar is always OMG THE BEAR WAS “HUGE”.or it was a HUGE cougar.I’ve lived and made my living in remote places and have yet,in my 70 years ,to have a bad experience with wildlife.it happens very rarely because people are stupid.soooo of you don’t like rural living stay in the city.😂😂😂it’s a big dangerous world out there.People don’t know that the single most dangerous thing you can do is get in a vehicle and drive….anywhere!more people die every single day than from anybody other cause.an average of 102 per day.but we don’t outlaw cars or shoot them like conservation officers do to bears and wolves and cougars.yes there are wolves on the coast.and grizzly bears have made an appearance occasionally.

And no reasonable person would call it "charm" to encounter a territorial bear destroying their kitchen or car interior. They can and do break into anything. They are unpredictable, highly dangerous, and filthy. Their fur and waste infested with diseases humans can catch. And if a person walked around the corner of their house, or out on the porch and was suddenly a few feet from it, which startled and offended it, the gruesome result cannot be removed by "oh well, you upset the bear". They are seldom afraid of humans anymore. That attitude originated pre 1960's, and is no longer true nor valid. We have news photos of bears in homes, in cars, breaking into buildings, and hunting pet livestock. If a person wants to clue into the current realities of urban bear infusion, they would get a real view by reading the book titled, "Bear Attack". However, if a person just wants to live in a utopian fantasy, that's their business. To each their own. However, the rest of us don't have to. Bears aren't safe. And the public should not have to risk safety, nor be bullied into incessant deference to them. Giant predators should be removed from Human living areas. Not idolized.

I actually mostly agree with you. Bears are dangerous. Growing up I knew of a girl who was killed in her backyard by a bear. The family wasn't aware of the bear's presence until they were! Growing up in Northern AB, when a bear wanted to start hanging around the homestead, it got killed. Too high of a chance of the bear killing a human in such close of an area. It's not a popular thought with Coasters but we're playing a dangerous game with letting bears hang around with humans. They populate like mice so the problem is just getting more and more dangerous year over year. If bears start hanging around town, they have to be put down. If I go hiking in the backcountry, well that's at my own risk. -Val

Seems that bear topic has reared up again.if there is a bear in your yard it’s there for the very simple fact that YOU have attracted it there through negligence.Food attractants and livestock.Garbage cans, manure piles, compost heaps bird feeders, bbq.Food left in cars.Grocery bags ,dog food.Bears are opportunists so don’t supply the opportunity. The ones that trash the bears and call for their death are idiots ignoramuses.Get lost😂😂😂😂
