You run the bitter end of your mooring line through the eye and back to your own cleat on your boat. This makes for a clean easy getaway when you leave.

i typically run the line thru the eye and back to my boat cleat. makes for an easy get away. cheers!
@kunoknollenbuddler21674 жыл бұрын
If you put the lines thru the eyes at that dock and bring them back to the clambs on board, it's the easyest way of handle it. If you want to leaf the marina, you can stay on board and handle your lines with highest comfort .. and safe.

Thanks so much for checking out our home. I totally get the weird vibe... Lower Gibsons always seems to be in the midst of change. But it does have a ton of character and honestly some of the friendliest people around. Please do come again in the summer when there are more people, more shops open and of course more sunshine!

Molly's Reach was almost lost a few years ago. When Beachcombers run ended it was left empty and not maintained for a decade. The fan love of Gibsons and Molly's Reach actually pushed the community to restore it and develop a lot of the businesses you see today.

Gibsons, where I live now, the "Sausalito" of the Vancouver area. My 30' Catalina, Coriolis is on Bravo dock. Gibsons is, always a good place to shelter waiting for good weather to cross the Straits. Everything I need is within walking distance, only drive my truck 3 out of 7 days a week.

The next time you head to the Sunshine Coast, you should head up to Smuggler Cove Marine Provincial Park, it's 42km north by car from Gibson's and has some nice protected anchorage in there. Some great hikes through the woods and if you want to take the tender across to South Thornaby Island, there is a great large sandy beach on the west side of the island. Great way to spend a day or two, in Secret Cove you can get diesel and provisions.

I was so disappointed your first impression of Gibson’s didn’t meet your high standards. Of course it’s not a resort, merely a coastal village serving local cruisers and commercial traffic. And as you’ve probably already discovered crab pots haunt nearly every bay or harbour where it’s shallow enough and as you are in logging territory deadwood is a fact of life. Now that said if you still have the option drop your hook in Tod Inlet as opposed to Brentwood Bay. Much better protected and much more secluded. It’s a short dingy ride from there to the Butchart Garden dingy dock.
@msweaver24 жыл бұрын
Gibson's is sort of a waypoint due to the highway, unlike a destination, like Snug Cove. There are more services in Gibson's and big stores up the hill near the highway. I was never so glad to see the place last August when we broke down in the middle of Georgia Strait in 25 knot winds . We caught a tow into Gibson's after rolling around in the slop for 2 hr but were very grateful for a terrific diesel mechanic who made time for us late afternoon on the Friday of a long weekend. Our problem was sediment in the bottom of our tanks that got stirred up by the seas.

Too bad you didn’t do more research before heading out off your awesome boat. You missed out on eating rainbow colored ‘sexy Mexy’ food and savoring the amazing craft cocktails of Lunitas Mexican Eatery. Smitty’s Oyster House is crazy. Delicious and fun next door to Lunitas. Just next to the pier, just down from Molly’s Reach. The new owner of Molly’s also owns Drift which is always great. Best muffins I’ve ever had are at Black Bean Cafe. Ridiculously special baked goods. Gibsons Public Market is amazing. Beachcomber Coffee is awesome. Wow. Vancouver people pay the one way Ferry price regularly so they can be regulars at Lunitas and other treasures there. Not just on blue sunny days either! In fact Hallmark filmed a movie in Gibsons Landing a few years ago that ‘took place in Martha’s Vineyard’. That’s how quaint and special Gibsons Landing is. They filled the pier, marina, town with fake snow and decorations. Christmas movie. I heard that Hallmark just filmed their second movie there. All because it’s a truly special place. Just sayin’...

Can you explain something for us 'land lovers'? Is it customary to be able to do a cruise-in to a marina and have someone there to assist in moorage in real-time? Also, did you have a general sense of what they were going to charge ($$$$)? Happy Sunday
@mvfreedom4 жыл бұрын
Anthony C Brown usually if you call and ask before arriving someone at the marina can assist but in the winter staff might be light so you never know. As far as cost, we had a general sense of CAD$ prices for marinas since we come so often. This was about $73 CAD which is similar to Downtown Vancouver.
@gmcjetpilot4 жыл бұрын
It's best to call the marina directly. Google's your friend. See link below. Not cheap so harbor services see you coming, happy to help and take your money. There are standard VHF Freq the harbor services monitor. Depending on season it may be $10 for short day stay and overnight they charge by the foot, ex $1.50/ft or more, and electricity hookup is extra. Puget sound, BC, San Juan Islands, Gulf Islands Victoria... beautiful but crowded and expensive in the few months of summer. Normally it's cool and overcast. It's very relaxing but bundle up. They give you facilities and cost. www.unionsteamshipmarina.com/marina/rates-services/
