I know the math on the rate-limiting doesn't check out hhaha. I realized it after editing. I think my hoster was already rate-limiting me as a customer. Also figured out the _jeb grief was not real. And I just wanted to make it clear, that I think the coders behind copenheimer are cool, but the users who have no clue and just grief servers are lazy.

I think your analysis on griefing is off becuase cool and immoral aren't really mutually exclusive. Think about stuff like caper movies or reports on the latest crimes of Lazarus Group. It's impressive and entertaining, but you still understand the harm. As for pranks vs bullying, I think the only sure condition is intent: if you drench someone you dislike out of malice that's bullying, but if you drench your friend (while being sure no water damage occurs) who has been complaining about the heat the whole week, that's a funny and apropos prank.

Not sure if that's possible (nor did I do a very big research on it), but I think you can also get domains list from some DNS servers and check the SRV record for each one and look for the "_minecraft" protocol so you won't be limited to just 25565 ports. (many Minecraft networks use other ports for their backend servers, and 25565 for their proxy/bungeecord). I mean this idea of scanning the entire internet is just so cool but also scary, which also means that accessing backend stuff should be taken more seriously and blocked from unknown IPs.

I think for something like opening mass connections, maybe a language such as NodeJS would be better than Python because of the way its worker thread works. Instead of having a limited number of threads running all waiting for a response, JS's asynchronous code makes it super easy to just keep sending out requests and the main event queue will handle responses whenever they come back, or alternatively will handle the timeout event. TBH I really love JS's event queue as a way of doing parallelisation, much more than traditional parallelisation methods and all the awful async bugs they cause!

@@manueltennox7725 I think you’re out of touch mate, Python does have a very robust async await structure, but it’s not default of course. But the asyncio module, which is part of the standard library, provides very easy ways to implement it. Look up aiohttp Also no, if some tasks fail or get stuck, well they just fail or get stuck. Other tasks will go on without issues. That’s kind of the point of async structure: it is not a queue system, but an async system. It is concurrency. And if they get stuck, well asyncio has a very simple asyncio.timeout() which runs async functions but fails if it doesn’t finish within the time limit you give it, so that fixes, although abruptly, the getting stuck issue

Whenever i set up a server for friends to play on I never bothered with whitelist because you assume the likelihood of someone guessing your ip is slim

Expanding the port range tends to make the scanner a lot slower, and the “success” rate is a lot lower (More ports scanned, less servers). However, a common solution is to scan the most commonly used ones (25565, 25566, etc.) and then to scan an entire range on that IP if one is found.

when you trade with villagers once you do one trade you can press space bar to put the items in the trade slot instead of dragging them into it. like when you were trading potatoes you drag one stack up do the trade then hit space bar and it will automatically move the potatoes into the slot!

Imho the "helping" is not nice, ruining the game, like xraying for diamonds and giving it to someone might seem nice but at least for me and most of my friends it would ruin the game, when I used to play minecraft at least lol, I'm the "I want and will do it myself" type of person

This is like StumbleUpon: Minecraft Edition. I miss that website.. it would be really fun to do this myself, but I don't think it's worth the privacy invasion of releasing lots of IPs to everyone even if they're technically public servers.

The Jeb_ grief was probably to make a point how native minecraft never bothered to create a versatile permission system to protect against griefing. More a thing against poor development goals in the software they sell

I hosted a minecraft server for my friends back around version 1.14. I would have absolutely loved to have a random visitor show up and build some small structure in my world, and definitely would have given a tour. On the other hand, I would have reacted pretty strongly to fly hacks and other game exploits as well (definitely no x-ray!). Maybe consider asking permission before using those one someone else's server if you plan on doing that again.

You can do a vanilla fly bypass by moving the player ~0.2 blocks at a set interval (a few server ticks)

I took a half-frozen juicebox and placed it ontop of a door (retraction hinge), and a teacher walked through the door. I was astonished that it worked while my fellow classmates laughed. Busted. Got what I deserved, so. It all worked out in the end 😂

Random thought.. Assuming someone hasn't already done so, have you ever tried making a client base minecraft world cloner? Basically you connect to a server and your client makes a copy of all the blocks it sees (or in a given range) and then creates/populates map files to mirror it. Then such maps could be deployed on a new server, almost like a mirror planet in some sci-fi show/movie. Of course, only the blocks get replicated and not the rest (e.g. chest contents, mobs).

Should you hack on servers to gain an unfair advantage, which flying is, since you can move much much faster, even if its for the good of the others?
