Hot summer transfers
The Reds' desire to resolve the matter with the coach as early as possible is also dictated by the intention to plan transfers so as not to waste time on it in the summer.
Obviously, the club would select slightly different players for each coach. In the case of Amorim, Liverpool will clearly understand what the club need.
Throughout his coaching career, Ruben has been playing a 3-4-3 formation. The Reds have never used such a formation under Jurgen Klopp, so the transfer campaign will be aimed primarily at recruiting a squad to play with 3 center-backs.
Liverpool's center-back position is often suffering even now. Matip is constantly injured, Konate is not ready to play many matches in a row, Gomez is busy covering the left and right defenders. So we have a situation in which the Reds have only Van Dijk and young Quansah, who are available more or less all the time.
Liverpool would go to the market in search of a center-back under any circumstances, and with the arrival of Amorim, the club will have to sign potentially two players for this position at once.
Everything is clear with one particular candidate. The club will need a left-footed player for the left center-back position. The Merseysiders had Gonzalo Inacio from Sporting and Piero Hincapie from Bayer on their shortlist.
It is obvious that Amorim will prefer the player he is working with now and knows very well. We estimate the probability of Inacio's transfer at 85%. We can confidently say that if Alonso went to lead the club, the choice would be made in favor of Hincapie using the same logic.
If the club, in addition to Inacio, tries to sign another center-back to strengthen the squad, attention will most likely be drawn to the local market. Among the players available for transfer, two options stand out: a more luxurious one represented by Crystal Palace center-back Marc Guehi and a more affordable one represented by Fulham's Tosin Adarabioyo. We estimate the probability of each of these transfers to be no higher than 20% percent, as it is not certain that Liverpool will want to buy another center-back at all.
But where the new player will definitely come is to the left wing-back position. Again, Liverpool planned to strengthen this position regardless of the new coach. The Reds have Andy Robertson, but this season he has repeatedly been injured and missed matches, while Kostas Tsimikas does not always match the club's level.
The Greek is likely to leave Anfield in the summer, and Liverpool chose Ryan Ait-Nouri from Wolves as a competitor and successor to Robertson. The 22-year-old Algerian has shown phenomenal progress this season and, moreover, feels comfortable in a 3-center-back formation as a left lateral, since he plays that way for Wolves.
Ait-Nouri looks like the perfect addition to the squad to compete with Robertson and eventually replace him as a starter. We estimate the probability of this transfer at 75% percent.
As for strengthening the center of the midfield, the situation is the opposite of the center of defense. Jurgen Klopp's team plays with 3 central midfielders, while Amorim will have only 2. So the set of players that Liverpool currently have should be enough for Ruben.
