Brilliant Dave lad. You are bringing this great team to a new audience. It was a great team and the title was sown up by February with at 1-1 at Old Trafford. Pity individual mistakes cost us the European Cup that year. I cant remember Souness ever making a mistake like that. Hamburg were not a great team. A final v Juve would have been great. Dalglish was on fire this season. The Brighton cup defeat a huge shock and everyone was sad for Bob Paisley. This team should be mentioned with the other great Liverpool teams - 1966, 1979, 1988 and Klopp's one.

21st Century football don't count especially by '05, I see today's teams & they all look like 16yr olds, no men, adults, too much money & transfers seem to be much less. They all have huge contracts & thus stay put.

@@markridsdale4564 his discipline was his problem and Paisley and the Boot room sorted that out...tougher stuff back then especially if u had to take on the Eastern European teams..they'd send the bus everywhere but the hotel then organise locals to keep the players awake all night...couldn't break that team mentally

Whelan with the studs up initially (around 12:15), but thankfully pulled back on following through. He knew why he got pushed in his head afterwards and didn't complain. Odd how the times change and we can nowadays easily recognize why Nicholl reacted as he did, yet Martin Tyler doesn't seem to understand the reality at all, even with a replay in hand. Yeah, this Liverpool team was better than memory served, even if I think Hodgson was a bit of a weak link up front. Souness was imperial this season.

Dalglish was/is my hero, but I've totally got a new born appreciation of Souness, I'd forgotten how brilliant he was.

I don't sense that in this game, or ever did in other games, up until the late 1990s at the earliest. It's very evident over the last 10-15 years though, for sure.

Watching that Ref booking Lawrenson for a foul, fair enough but don't wag your finger at him & speaking to him like a Headmaster to a naughty schoolkid. Liverpool at their best here, pass ball, move, pass ball, move, pass ball.. simple stuff & every player was expected to get goals & they did including the goalkeeper.
