A good idea to put on a patio. We have one on the home we moved into. It is a nice size and we have our bbq grill and a table and chairs on it. We can have people for a bbq and there is plenty of room. What I like also is that it has a metal roof and when it rains it is wonderful and it also keeps the sun off us. One of my husband's favorite sayings is "pay for it now or pay for it later". While you have everything tore up you might as well do it up right if you can. With a nice big patio, you are actually adding on 2 rooms, a utility room and an outside room. I know you'll be cooking and eating and relaxing out there a lot. I am as excited about the patio as I was a out easing the space problems in the kitchen. Your house is not so tiny any more.

The patio sounds great especially seeing it will be shaded in the afternoon. An outdoor living space really adds a lot to your house. A place to grill, eat, and sit and enjoy nature. Can’t wait to see it all happen!

@@karena.2416 I don't believe that's the case. They are adding onto their home for necessary utility space- washer/dryer, food storage, mud room. They aren't just building because they want more and more.

Definitely like your video. I myself been little bit trying my hand at making KZbin. I been trying goofing around with comedy acting like a hick rambling. The only thing is I personally have no knowledge of video editing and been using my phone camera. I do enjoy you and Elizabeth videos ever since I was recommend your channel by KZbin. Love the patio. I am glad you are doing it now. When you were talking about putting the porch on later I was thinking that for a while you would only have one usable door which is never a good idea and it would make getting to the back yard harder for Elizabeth. You'd have to put the porch on immediately or build something temporary. Making a nice big wrap-around patio will be so much better than a smaller porch. You will use it so much, and making it now will make building the walls easier because you will have a good flat firm surface to walk and stand on. Win/ win.

I am so glad you needed to dig out the dirt inside the foundation because it was bothering me. LOL It looks so nice since you dug it out and can make good use of it elsewhere!! LOL Also when you mentioned access to the crawl space and were explaining about not having placed a door to access it I thought then maybe a door in the floor to access the crawl space! LOL and then that is exactly what you said you were going to do!!! This is so much fun watching everything you're doing in this project!

I'm glad to see you got your foundation done. It's true that the frost line in the south is different than in the northern states. Sometimes on an 8 foot basement or foundation they will fill the outside corners because the wall won't collapse at that point and they can walk up to the foundation that way. I've been out to our house in the mountains doing some work. I had to get the well pump going and some other things. I have a lot of other work there too. I have to replace a lot of facia board and some soffit around the house and garage. We bought a brand new travel trailer so we have go drive out there soon once the dealer has it ready for is so we can pick it up.

So neat to see changes, and how much easier and less expensive it is to make changes when you do the work yourselves. Had you hired someone to make the addition and then added a patio amendment during that build, making a change would've cost. But as you're doing your own build, adjusting your small add-on is no biggy, and you'll have a much nicer patio at the end of the day. Smart to do the work yourselves.

My experience with a lot of do-it-yourself projects is it always takes about three times longer than you expect! I think you're smart being flexible with also adding a patio. Sometimes projects evolve into something else in that can be a good thing

Sounds wonderful but I suggest you rethink flagstone. My Mom regretted putting that in. God forbid anyone needs a walker but if so...it makes for difficult walking. She didn't need it but later my Dad did. Just saying, you never know
