Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy the convenience of my homes heat, but from just using the fireplace & firepit outside, there is an obvious difference. There is definitely more comfort and coziness with wood-fire anything. :-) Plus, the crackling sound is peaceful.

I think many times people don't really watch the video. They just make comments based on the title and thumbnail, or what they THINK I'm going to say! What really irritates me is when they ask a question that I had SPECIFICALLY answered in the video! I just want to ask, "Did you watch the video?! Go watch the video first!" But it happens all the time, and after 6 years as a creator, I've just learned to live with it and ignore it! And either just delete the comment (If its nasty), or respond kindly anyway.

$300 a cord where I live in Canada. Amazingly I live in the middle of the forest. People ripping off people. I'm 74 and can't go out and saw down dead trees myself. BTW, go to a hardware store and buy a propane tank with a torch nozzle. Turn the knob, click the button and you have instant fire. No need for paper or kindling but a fire starter is necessary so that it burns long enough to catch the logs. I use the paper cup kind with the wax like you have. It only takes a second to light the fire starter with the blow torch and then all you have to do is turn the blow torch off, close the stove door and enjoy the fire. One hand held tank will last about 5 years. Maybe more because my house is wood only heat and we get upwards to 40 below so our stove runs 24 hours a day in our very long winters....about 8 months. You only have to replace the empty propane bottle. The nozzle is reusable. I would really hate a fire that I could not regulate. Because we sometimes have to run the wood stove on high heat, we have clearance of 18 inches all around.

@@kkkay7336 I use a demolition bar (Home Depot about $30). It's about a yard long so you get plenty of leverage. And, since it's for firewood it doesn't matter if there are cracks or rough ends. Looks Great. I agree, for peace of mind a wall shield behind the stove would be functional and look good as well. I heated my home of 2800 square. ft. with wood for years. Cold long winters here in northern Ontario, Canada and went through about 4 bush cords of seasoned wood per winter. The best tip, clean out the stove regularly and if your local Lowe's sells it, buy a couple boxes of Fatwood. 1 small piece will start a fire every time, much better than kindling, I always have 2 pieces about 3 inches in length in my pack when I go in the bush. Stay warm, stay safe. Thanks for the vids !!

As a heat shield, I use a piece of 3'X5'X1/4" Hardibacker cement board, stood upwards, leaned sightly against the wall. It has 2 semicircular cutouts at the bottom (about half of a six inch circle), to let air rise behind the panel and a piece of wood that is 2" long by 3/4"X3/4", (glued on), behind the top, standing the top slightly off the wall, to allow air to convect from the bottom up through the top, flowing in back of the panel to cool it. The wall stays totally cool. If you need a shield, this is cheap, it works and it can be simply removed for the summer. You can even paint it the same color as your wall. It's nice to know the wall will stay cool while you're sleeping!

Bill, my husband and I have a wood burning stove. We had it professionally installed some years ago. Everything was done according to code. Even with everything done according to code, our wall still gets HOT. Almost too hot to touch. It’s not a large section of wall, but it is enough to worry me. We live in a 24 year old double wide and the wall that is behind the stove is sheetrock/ dry wall. So I took a piece of aluminum foil and used double sticky tape, and I taped that foil to the wall .. it may look tacky or hillbilly, but IT WORKS. lol It was cheap and it can be removed in the warm months and a new piece put back up when the stove is in use. We hardly ever get company (just my daughter and her little family every now and then) so it doesn’t matter if it looks tacky or not, and it serves its purpose. God loves you and your family. God bless you all.

When we built this house I wanted a wood fireplace but couldn't talk my husband into it, just the smell alone is worth it to me, but he didn't like the thought of bringing in bugs hiding in a woodpile. To have just a simple lil life outside of here would be a dream come true, and an answered prayer. I suppose God puts us where He needs us to be....there are so many here that NEVER have even a chance at FREEDOM and peace away from institutional living...its NOT nice! There's very warped, ungodly employees around here that love to go outta their way to create controversy when it's NOT warranted! They restrict us from the "public", even make fun of us unlucky folks, and punish us like children for ridiculous things. Thanx for keepin my dreams alive!!! Sorry, that wasn’t Elizabeth on the piano. She’s been visiting her sister in Maine for the past week

Bill. You are too kind a soul to deserve any mean comments. I’m on your side! 😊

You make a lot of sense. Putting up a shield behind the stove is a good idea. Better to be safe than sorry. Too bad that people have to call you names. You certainly don't deserve that. Enjoy your stove and its comfort/warmth!

Trees collect photosynthesis from the sun that releases when you burn it, is why Wood fires warm you better and feel much better than conventional heat. It is healthier too! Thank you for sharing

We have had wood heat in the past when we lived in the country and were raising iur boys. There is nothing like wood heat in my opinion for warmth. and comfort! I am sure like Leo Pops will enjoy the nice warm heat. The instillation looks nice and another job behind you. Always so much to do at this time of year! It looks like you will be in good shape for the winter season. My best to you and yours. Have a blessed day and winter in your new home! 🐺🐺🐺🐺🙏🙏🙏🙏🕊🕊🕊🕊👍👍👍👍

I agree that woodheat is the best. And I like the way you can see through the glass in the door and watch the flames. You did a great job on the installation. Thank you for the great video.

Glass in the door was one of Elizabeth’s requirements when we bought the stove. 😁

I enjoy your channel; you are quite knowledgeable and also have a spirit that is willing to learn how to do things on your own. You don't need to defend your actions; you're a good teacher.

When the nights cool in the fall I start craving to start the wood stove. I have used wood heat for 50 of my 72 years so it is second nature I guess. Love my wood heat.

I put my wood stove in over 30 years ago and yes only 3 inches from the wall/curtains. No worries for over 30 years, wall stays cold as well as the curtains. Heat seems to go up and out but not backwards.

Save dryer lint and distribute in paper egg cartons then drip wax over lint. When dry remove from egg cartons and store in container. I use one or two to start my wood stove at the cabin.

Thanks for posting, great stove install. We all need to get off grid as much as possible. BTW Con\/id was brought in for the \/s, not the other way round.

If you keep the door open for 4-5 minutes, the fire will get a lot more air and start much faster, for what its worth. Happy stoving!

My husband put strips of wood on the wall and then put tin on the wall and on the floor. People told us the code enforcer never passed it the first time. But, he did and he loved what he did.

I did the same thing but I used galvanized metal. It reflected the heat into the room really well.

Good idea to have the first burn on a new and/or freshly polished woodstove when it's mild enough to open doors/windows if needed. $75 for a bed load of seasoned/split wood, typically 16 in. length, may equal a face cord (4ft tall, 16 in wide, 8ft long). Full cord (4ft x 4ft x 8ft) at/about 3 loads would be $225 a cord. We heated our home with a woodstove for 30 years when living in northern NH. We were lucky to have our own wood lot, get permits for designated cutting in the local national forest, and clean up properties after storms. Although somewhat labor intensive/time consuming, heating with wood is fantastic. We also cooked on ours and hung clothing on racks nearby to dry them.
