No point to buying the heavy metal version, the rubber washer will fail first. Also, we have trouble with it not cutting off due to the rubber or plastic tubs that don’t hold their shape well. It helps to put the hanging brackets in the top hole.

We put one on our trough here in Montana. They don’t work in winter months. Evidently where the hose enters the top of the valve it will freeze and won’t allow the water to flow through. 😢

Try a product called a freeze miser. Had good luck with these on stock tanks for horses to prevent freeze ups in winter time.
