I was in Vietnam with the First Infantry Division 1968 and met a young Girl named Hoang that purchased me a gold chain with praying hands Medallion before I was to leave. Several years ago I went to get some alterations done and as I looked at a picture of her when she was leaving Vietnam in 1974 I recognized her. She recognized me. What were the odds ? It was great to reconnect after all the years. I love your videos and I get hungry for the great food. Keep up your mission to show the World the Vietnamese people and your Beautiful Country.

I really appreciate what you doing now. It’s not easy for anyone. The best part is that only few people are out there who actually believe in self and create there own path in life. Remember when you choose different path in life people don’t like because we all were scripted from out side society to tell you what to do or not according to them. When even I lost the job from Singapore I landed back to India after 2 years and that was a big shock for me coz now I realise that I have to to think positive and let’s build my own business (as a Architect Engineer). Now it’s been 2 year’s and I’m still growing better on my own. Trust your inside soul and self worth. Keep learning in life. Thanks for making such a great video contents on your KZbin channel and it helped me a lot in Vietnam 🇻🇳 while I was there last week. I loved how you explain things and the way you shoot video in public. Your video best part is you speak very clear and loud. Love from 🇮🇳 India. I may never make it to Vietnam, but your content has made me want to go there some day. Or at least get some pho in the near future. Van, what a super Live-chat you had yesterday. It was the first time I watched a live-chat from start to finish, little over 2 hours. I’m very old now and plan to return to Vietnam, probably after you establish your business in November. I spent 6 years in Vietnam, but those were during the War years. I married into the Vietnamese culture and life style, and have loved it everyday. I live in a lonely life, everything has changed and passed. Don’t get me wrong, I got numerous Local and local Vietnamese relatives and friends. Covid dissolved all my plans in 2020/2021 to travel. Your videos, and hopefully future live-chat will “reconnect” me to life. Sorry, I’m not high tech with social media, so I’m slow, don’t even know what how to “Live-chat.” I’ll be tagging along with you. Mahalo Plenty from Hawaii.🤙🙏🏼

"I only regret what I did not do". I could have said those words. In a way I did the same thing as you. I studied geography and wanted to be an urban planner. Could not get a job at home. Got offered a job in Estonia and decided: it can never go worse than wrong. I have never regretted taking the risk, because I was passionate about my work. I worked for 7 years there. Got fired. Before I could even begin to think about my future I got a new offer. I took it and has never regretted that either. If you see a possibility take it. Then you have nothing to regret. The difficulties that you overcome only makes you stronger. PS: about learning a new language: learn the basics of grammar and the most important words. The rest will come when you speak the language every day. In the beginning I had difficulties because I had never really used my language, but in 3 months or so I could follow any conversation without difficulties. When I heard an unknown word, I just asked - and learned.

WOW, that is fascinating about your experience with Vietnam refugees in the US as a Northern Vietnamese. I am sorry you felt hurt by them. Their pain is not your fault. They just associate your accent with the people that hurt them. They are socialized as Americans now and just believe anything communism is "bad"... but 'communist' Vietnam today is not communist China. They don't know that though because they haven't been back.

I enjoyed this video because I'm in a similar situation. Trying to make a career change to something that pays more than my passion because you can't really pursue your own passion without actually having money. It's annoying to have to work in your field and be paid almost nothing yet be told "if it's your passion, you shouldn't be doing it for the money." I also want to some day visit Vietnam later in life when I'm more financially stable. My goal is to someday speak the language as well as you speak american english lol. Maybe one day I'd be a travel youtuber/ blogger like you are. Hopes and dreams

I missed the draft in 1968. I went to Nam in 2010 for the 1st time with my deceased wife & fell in love with it. I have been cycle touring Asia since with many trips to Vietnam. I got stranded there last year for 9 mths & isolated in Hue City where I met a charming & beautiful lady and we are going to marry after the pandemic but maybe not till 2023. I found love & potential for a new life in Nam & Aus at 72. It was destiny for both of us & an incredible Covid lockdown love story. I discovered Van’s channel back home & she is a rare gem on KZbin with her US education & confidence & passion to help people learn about & love her home Vietnam. You must go there & I will come to Ha Noi and we can both meet Van for lunch. I am learning so much from this channel & her friend’s Let’s Speak Vietnamese. Tam biet!

Hi Van, I watched the entire video. You touched on politics, religion, and the divisiveness it create a little bit, Yes, the Vietnamese people in the US are primarily from the South of Vietnam. I'd still be interested in hearing more of your interaction and experiences with the Vietnamese Americans you meet. I'd like to hear more about the 'refugee stories" you heard and compare it with what you knew growing up in Vietnam. How are Vietnamese Americans different from Vietnamese people in Vietnam? Is the food in Vietnam better? :-) People in the US go to visit colleges just to see how beautiful they are. Are Vietnamese colleges the same? Do students in America study as hard as those in Vietnam? What is college like in Vietnam? What are the opportunities available to them after graduating compared with what your opportunities were like in the US?

I hope you have made a "right decision" .. At 25 years of age, you're already entitle "Manager" this must be an exceptional mile stone, or your company is simply considered "small business". Working and living in corporate America isn't simple or complicate.... Learn as much as you can then moving up the ladder .. Manager .. Director.. VP .. etc .. If you think there wasn't anything to learn from the existing company, move on to different one.. Bigger so you can learn more from there... As a Manager level or above, technically, you don't have to "clock in and clock out" .. But for sure you have to work more than 40 hours/weekly basis. By the end of the day, corporate always try to juice everyone talent out as much as they can... For you, learn from them as much as you can. Once you have fully equipped yourself, they will have to pay back.

Sorry I missed your livestream. Hopefully you'll be doing this again in the future? Do you know that you sometimes have a trace of a Midwestern accent? That's a good thing! I now live in Massachusetts which has a distinct sound, but mostly that comes from the Boston area. Originally, I was born and grew up in New York area and also lived in San Francisco, so that's another layer of accent. And Hawaii. Yikes! That's a lot. Definitely a hybrid accent for me. Well, I've always travelled, but now I'm 75, but I've gone around the world by myself two times in my 70's. I think the key element to successful travel is not money. Confidence is everything. That and a love for people, culture and an endless curiosity. Now I'm learning Vietnamese and dreaming about Hanoi early next year. ❤ Hanoi!!
