Livestream - First look at the ATR 42 in Microsoft Flight Simulator

A live first look at the ATR in Microsoft Flight Simulator - I have about 45 minutes until I head out for the evening - so thought I would share the first experience with your all :) Disclaimer - this was the first load of the aircraft into the sim - with no prior knowledge at all :)

Hah - I was just following my nose in the initial flight. The gust lock is a real gotcha for those that have never seen one before.

Really hoped the series would push the limits in all dimensions. Hearinbg the breakers are not clickable, says a lot about system depth when it comes to non-normals. OMG - Lets hope that updates are a thing here... Thank you 💙

Thanks for the review. I've been after a prop regional for some time (when I don't want to break out the BAe 146!). I'll probably hold-off for a bit though since others are reporting various cockpit issues.

Thanks for the review - really informative. Unfortunately, this is inflatable for me. Everything including the tablet is off most of the time and the throttles won’t calibrate. If I do get everything lit up, the nose wheel sinks into the tarmac and the aircraft won’t move. Same thing happens with some helos. There are too many annoying bugs in MSFS right now.😔

You must have something else going on to cause those kinds of issues? I have never seen any of that happen.

@@jonbeckett thanks Jonathan. I think I will do a clean new profile for my TCA throttle. The sinking into the ground thing is weird. Maybe linked to the addon FS Realistic Pro but I can’t be certain. Have a good one.👍

Hi Jonathan, just got this after watching this video, I'm struggling getting the throttles set up with my Thrustmaster Airbus quadrant, I've cleared all the throttle settings I can find and then reprogrammed the 2 throttle levers , once in the cockpit all the power levers do is wobble. No reverser programmed so I don't know what's going on here. Managed to program flaps and parking brake lever. Any help would be appreciated, cheers.

I looooove all the button detail in this, like the A310 again! The cockpit lock (deny) button ACTUALLY (wait for it).....locks the door from opening! Lots of other cool things with inverters, etc. I wasn't expecting. Love detail like that for multi planes/liveries at under a 20$ price point too! Only problem I have once now when I came back to xbox from resume was the atr-72 wouldnt turn on runway for taxi at all. Rudder moved, but just went straight (Automatic nose lock thingy was switched on, tried resetting that too- gust locks also off. Is there some other nose wheel turn lock button I am missing I hit by accident this startup???

Appears hydraulic loss, I turned green and blue pumps back on, then said ACW loss? But I had inverter turned on (that rectifier thing, I forget it exactly had 3 letters like RCU?)

Hi.. it’s normal that to stop the plane you have to insert always the parking brake?(also during the push back!!😐😐) on x box series x the throttle have big issues , and in 5 take offs i made 2 times the plane is totally out of control and crashes.i think i will ask a refound😪😪

You have to configure the throttle correctly - I recorded a video about it.

I bought this airplane. My first attempt was not a succes. I started up on the runway and speeded up to take off, Then the airplane started to reverse. 😆

Cheers Jonathan. For $20 AUD I bought it without a second thought. After a small 150 Klm flight I really want to know where the "EXPERT" comes from. Your cold and Dark start is a great starting point and a great help to get it started. Probably just me but I found it to be very wonky(LOL) on take off.Trying to engage the auto pilot equipment was hit and miss but I eventually got it working so to speak. Some of the buttons are wonky on on when they should be off and vice a versa. I find it around the level or maybe a bit above the Asobo aircraft. Yes it is a Good looking product but I expected more from them saying EXPERT!..Still for $20 its quite OK...P.S... I hope someone does a Fokker F27 or F50 one day.

It flies like any other plane in MSFS ;-). In this "simulator", each flight feels more like a game than a simulation. I'm not talking about the amount of "clickable" buttons or trying to simulate systems. In the XP competition (although it is ugly), but the feeling of "real" flight is much more profound. You can feel the "mass" of the plane, which, however, requires a minimum of respect. And feel a tangible difference flying, for example, the (excellent) Q4XP or 737IXEG (or ZIBO). In MSFS, if not for the appearance of the cockpit, almost every plane flies in the same way ;-)

@@Swift-Kiwi ;-) ... none, no XP fanboy 😉 I grew up with the first versions of MS simulators. When I went from FS9 to XP10, then to XP11, I felt like a traitor 😉. Now I am very disappointed ed with what XP12 has offered and of course I use MSFS in parallel. However, what I wrote above is true for me and of course subjective (although I have flown several hundred hours in real life) and there is no anti-MSFS subtext here. 😉

@@humpypumpy yes 🙂 Of course, I didn't have a real ATR in my "hands". The biggest one I flew was the AN2. It's a real dragon, and what the MSFS model showed was laughter. It flies like PA28 or C152. For MSFS, it makes no difference whether it's a high-wing or low-wing aircraft . ;-) Undoubtedly, MSFS is revolutionary when it comes to the representation of scenery and partly weather. Atmosphere lighting not necessarily. The night lights are another joke ...
