As a 48-year-old Italian man, in my day ALL the boys had a vespa, nobody used scooters. :) And in those days we were young enthusiasts, so we dismantled them, elaborated them, repaired them, experimented… I always had grease on my hands and I was always in there disassembling carburettors. The VESPA mechanics were so ingenious that they were disarmingly simple. A 16-year-old boy, with a little wit, could take it COMPLETELY apart. Never taken the vespa to a mechanic :D good old times. now they are seen less around but many guys are restoring them and putting them back on the road. It's a pleasure to see them go around on a vespa. At the time it was freedom, emancipation, when you had a vespa you were a free young man and you felt like an adult. It was an important step. Great nice restoration I'm happy you brought it back to life.

All my compliments to the restorer. With that Vespa I went from Bologna, Italy, to Agadir, Morocco, in the Seventies. Thirty-three hundred kilometres at 80km per hour. I had a jerrycan just between my legs because the main tank was ridicously small (3 litres or so). One of my best trips. I then did it again after a couple of years ad I reached Algeria through Morocco, where I sold the Vespa to get a boat to reach Naples.

So if you’re watching this as a tutorial, note the following: - never spray paint the alloy block. Just sandblast it. It gives a way better finish. - never reuse old bearings. It’s cheap to replace and easy to do. Also they tend to break down - never reuse seals

Also it would have been a great opportunity to do some rust protection before painting especially since he left some rust spots here and there. The rust will penetrate the paint eventually from those spots.

Aren't you worried they will start to grow in time and rust from the inside out? I would have gone with a full sandblasting of the body, that's what I plan to do with mine actually, to be 100% sure it will be clean to the bone before painting over.
