Excellent information for me as a Black woman in her late fifties; it is never too late. I am sharing this video with, my adult children, who are in their early and late twenties. Thank you again for being transparent.

I always love when the fashion girlies talk money. You're so right Alicia, black women leave money on the table because we just don't discuss finances enough. I'm not American, I'm Bahamian. The cost of living is devastatingly high here, both me ans my 34 years old sister still live at home with our parents. I'm 31 years old and last year I paid off all my debt, but I don't really have a savings. It's kind of embarrassing to talk about, but my twenties were riddled with so many financial hurdles that just kept wiping out any little savings I had. In 2021 I decided to lock everything down and target my $20k student loan debt and in 15 months I paid it off. That was one of the BEST financial decisions I have ever made. Like so many other people, I'm starting from scratch and it can be discouraging. But this kind of content really inspires me to think about ways I can increase my income. I don't earn a lot of money (less than $50k a year), but I do my best to manage it well. I'm starting Grad School in the Fall, and I'm just hopeful I'll find a way to monetize other skills I have and bring more money in while I cash flow Grad School (in addition to looking for better, higher paying full time jobs). Idk...I just feel safe to share that here. If you're in a position similar to mine and it feels like everything coming in goes right back out because you're just not making enough, we can do this. We can up our earnings. Thank you Alicia. ❤️

Thanks for the video! I did the same thing with my first job out of grad school. I didn’t contribute to my 401k for the first 2 years because I was planning on going to dental school so I didn’t think it was necessary. 11 years later I am still with the same company. After year 2 I changed that up real quick! Another thing I would tell people to think about is looking for life insurance, long term disability, etc. outside of your job. My best friend and I had a good discussion 3 years into my job. We talked about if we leave our jobs it is more beneficial for us to be able to move the insurance with us rather than losing it if you depart from the company and having to start over with your life insurance at an older age it will cost more.

Can you please do a video on traveling on a budget? 1. What’s your approach to planning? 2. How do you know if you are getting a good deal on flights? 3. Do you use a travel agent? 4. Are certain days better than others to book travel?

I learned how to use a credit card properly from an old white man my dad worked with. He paid his monthly house, car, utilities, and everything else with his rewards card. He paid it in full every month and used his rewards to travel. He made money by paying his bills. It blew my mind when he told me this.

This is one of the most sincere videos I have watched from an influencer. Just with you speaking on the fact that yes, your job is too influence and get people to buy things that you still want it to be responsibly done and to be able to say yes, it’s OK that you don’t have the money for it right now, but save for that is Great. Thank you for posting this. It was almost like a little bit of validation that I didn’t know I needed and I greatly greatly appreciate you and this video ❤.

Why I enjoy your channel: 1. You are open & honest 2. Your style is different from other KZbinrs 3. You are good with time management. (this is an area I can improve on) 4. You frequently talk about assessing your budget weekly 5. You shop all areas & thrift too You provide that dose of “real reality” & how to plan & make “your life” possible. I will share this with my daughters! (sometimes kids comprehend topics differently coming from a different source) Great topic & thanks for sharing

Yes! I’ve fallen victim to the first pitfalls myself and you are right that no one talked to me about finances and money so I had to learn everything the hard way on my own. And I still feel like I’m learning at 47. Thank you for sharing and reminding me to stay on budget. My friends laugh at me when I say “I need to consult my budget first.” ☺️ But I’m not trying to go back to how I use to be.

Love this video, as I was just having a reality check with myself about my spending, and you literally said it; I've been high-key tryna keep up with the "Joneses" or newest thing and don't have the money; pay down credit cards than charging to them again, I'm tryna break the cycle. 😔 P.S. I'm turning 30 this year, and wish I did a lot of this sooner too. I would love it if you could at some point touch on how to find a financial advisor (whom you can trust), as I feel I'm still learning and need that guidance. I find it hard to just take that leap to get one because of the idea of "it's my money" (I don't want just anybody in my business), but I need some help regarding financial decisions, investing, retirement funds, and researching on my own has been very vague at times.

This was such a good vlog. Being in the finance industry myself, I can totally relate. My motto is never leave free money on the table. We need to have these conversations constantly in our community. We have to share this info. Setting ourselves up for the future sets us up for a great retirement fund and being able not to be a "Walmart" greeter to subsidize our social security. I'm just saying. Start now. It is all worth it. 😊

One way to not use up money in your savings account is not to have a card where you can spend the money from the account. Have a card where you can only withdraw money and it has a daily limit. It forces you to not spend and makes it harder to use large amounts of money.
