I feel and agree with everything you say, James. However, there is a flip side to an American living abroad in other countries. And that's the dependence on the use of the US dollar. No one seems to talk about this aspect of the equation. If an American was not receiving money from the US to convert to Dominican pesos, do you think they would still have the same outlook on living in the Dominican Republic or anywhere abroad for that matter? Because let's be honest, it's the US dollar that's making it possible to take advantage of the cheaper cost of living in the DR and other countries.
@dumbphonemom9 ай бұрын
Absolutely. Many people want to live on $1,500 a month in the DR and still find it expensive, but they wouldn’t survive in the US with that same amount.

Valid point. But the US $ is not going anywhere; at least not for now. Use the dollar to strengthen your situation here. The banks here have some investment opportunities. Build up your money there and you might find you can live with very little US$. There are other things too.

How about dependence on Amazon!!! We're so dependent on it....
@juiemon19 ай бұрын
@@Dee-pj7hh I agree with you brother when you say, use the dollar to strengthen your position wherever you're living by taking advantage of investment opportunities. But let's be honest, a lot of people, do not possess the mindset to do that, because they don't teach that in these public fool aka (school) systems. People need to keep in mind, that the entire US monetary system, is a house of cards. Nothing of intrinsic value is backing the US dollar other than the faith/belief that people put into it. The US dollar is fiat money, so therefore at any given moment, the US monetary system can come crumbling down.

Norberis , you both are welcome to visit us here on the island of Key Largo, Florida! We’re only 1 hour more or less from Miami with lots of shopping! I once lived in Playa Cofresi, Puerto Plata, DR. We moved back to the Florida Keys from the DR and now we take lots of trips from Miami to the DR and truly enjoy the DR to visit family and friends! The Florida Keys has beaches and beautiful neighborhoods without any hustle or bustle. When people say they are going to do something here on this island, they mean it! That’s why we left DR because it was a predatory situation about the financial situation. We’ve got Cuban restaurants and Thai places, and lots of places that you can grab something quick, and it’s not fast food! You’re both welcome to come and stay with us and Vlog your travels from the 43 islands that make up the Florida Keys! We have so many friends that have moved here with us and we are all tight knit like family! Hit us up around the end of the year or so.. We have a huge family home on the bay side of the island, we’d love to host you both! We speak Spanish and English here in our home. 🎉 Stay strong and safe.. I also have family in DR, but what I find difficult is feeling there isn't enough to do unless you happen to be in the Capital. You could be financially good, but if there's not enough to do, it gets old quick. I am used to being able to be 15 minutes to 30 minutes from anywhere without blinking an eye. Museum, park, cafes, shopping, etc. When you are in a resort, that is not real life. I think trasitioning from Fl might be easier than a big city. Most people with the ability or possibility to move from one place to another without too much hassle get tired of living in the same place after 3 years. However, with changing furniture or adding new things to the house or apartment people can extend living in one dwelling for more than 10 years. But even in the USA people get tired of living in the same home beyond 10 years. Having money and/or the possibility to do so makes all the difference when making that decision.

Nice video. I find it interesting that when Americans decide to leave to a whole different country because they are tired of the stress from working hard, it tends to be people from the cities. Most people want to live in the big cities but realize how hard it can be to build a home, raise a family, and still have money to vacation. You can get out the cities in the US and have a slower life. Maybe that's not the case here but Fort Lauderdale is a big city, and it makes sense that you would want to leave.

From the financial perspective I do agree with you guys, however, Dominican Republic is still facing great challenges that are contrasting to most Americans willing to permanently move there, corruption being the main one. Driving on DR's autopistas resembles driving in Mexico City where local traffic cops stop you for the "mordidas". First, we are not used to be getting stopped on the streets for no reason, much less by traffic cops with intentions of intimidation and extortion. This happens to us every time we drive from Punta Cana to Casa De Campo. They position themselves right on the hottest tourist travel areas looking for some poor pariguayo they can extort from. Its a shame; such a beautiful country and a few bad apples killing their main source of income.

Ay @@NorberisR , please! It happens all the time. Just this last Saturday I got stopped twice on my way to the airport on Autopista del Coral. They pull everybody over at random! I normally drive with the Waze app, and a couple of months ago I slowed down to 80km/hr to test them out and still got pulled over with the excuse that there were checking to see if I had my belt fastened. I guess locals don't mind, but it pisses the heck out of tourists.

By the way, I love you guys videos; keep up the good work!
@NorberisR9 ай бұрын
At this point we don't know that the money will not be invested in those sectors. Yall should do like maybe two trips a year for the sole purpose to come buy clothes in the USA and take two maletas that’s what I plan to do
@NorberisR6 ай бұрын
When we travel to the US for other purposes we try to do that. But to travel there for that sole purposes you might as well buy them here.

James how do you deal with the fact that if a bank is going under they can keep all of your money? Do you have all your money in DR or do you keep your money abroad in the US? Love your place, kudos 😊

In the US is UP to $200k... And in Canada, $100k... Never keep money in the bank, keep money in assets like stocks, ETF, real estate but NEVER EVER EVER in the bank... All my money are either in ETF or on my onlin e business (stock) but in my bank I only keep enough for the daily expenses

What about reliable internet ,what about if there is a true emergency,911,can you depend on that?
@NorberisR9 ай бұрын
I spoken on the internet many times. In Santo Domingo and Punta Cana it's fine. I can't speak on other areas because I have lived there. As far as 911 I don't know how reliable it is as I've never used it but I also haven't heard that it isn't.

@NorberisR9 ай бұрын
I've never been Barahona but I heard the beach is beautiful. I plan to go there at some point. Samana, I have visited and also has beautiful beaches. They're both around the same distance. I don't think you can go wrong with either one.
@RichRotorhead8 ай бұрын
@@NorberisRI went to Barahona last year. The beach was too violent for swimming, not one person in the water, and the locals warned me not to enter. There are several water holes , they're cool but far from neat and polished and are heavily populated with locals and visitors with their families and very loud music. I'm cool with it, but I'm sure that not everyone is.

I will say, if not for anything, at least visit the Republic of Dominica. If planning to live, have a plan before moving there because there is still a cost of living in DR. The only difference for me is, my doctor visits are quick in the City vs doctor visits in DR where my wife has to step in to make sure they don't strip my pockets by trying to convince me that I need to stay overnight for observation 🤔🙄
