I'm here in Bangkok and a White dude from Paris told me that Thai people don't like Black people - but my experience has been the exact polar opposite. I think only twice I ran into a couple of situations that may have been racism - maybe. It was hard to tell if they were racist or just had bad character. But all the Thai people have treated me like gold. I love it here!

2:25 I knew exactly what you meant. You didn’t even have to explain it. There’s other videos about Pattaya, where the women do not like to go out during the day, because they do not want their skin to be dark.

My wife is from Isaan. she apologized when we met her father in ubon ratchathani because in her words he is “black skin.” I was shocked she would apologize for her fathers skin color. I said he was beautiful and the family laughed in a positive way for using the word beautiful to describe her father. Definitely a culture shock. She asked me a few more times that week if I was okay with her fathers skin color. She also was shocked when we met a black American couple and was extremely impressed that was possible.

Great vlog and fascinating perspective, dude. That experience with the police is kinda sad, though. Back in '10 and '11, I had a British friend in Thailand who happened to be black. He had a couple of similar experiences with Bangkok police and told me it was because they have a lot of Nigerians that are involved with running the ice on the streets. Still, the stereotyping sucks, and my buddy decided to move on to the Philippines. He is still there and married with kids...Loving life. Peace and love, man.

The Nigerians are definitely known for selling ice. Some Thai girls have approached me asking for some because they thought I was African. Just something to be aware of.

I was adopted from Thailand by Swedish parents when I was 6 weeks old, my parents wanted a more white looking child and the orphanage said I had a Western nose and called me pinky, dunno. I don't care about what colour or what race you are, as long as you're a kind soul. I've got a dark birth mark, which is quite big on my hip, and Thais think I've had a weird skin bleaching. Bleaching your skin is completely crazy in my eyes 😢

Talking about a black man being a basketball player. I (a Thai-American) took my good friend, Alex, to Thailand with me in the late-90's. Alex is a 6'5", dark complexion, and bald-headed black guy; he was originally from Senegal (then France, then U.S.). Everyone in Thailand thought that he was Michael Jordan from the Chicago Bulls and tried to get the autograph from him (there was no cellphone camera back then). The funny thing is that Alex was a much better soccer player than a basketball player (he sucked at basketball, despite his height). 😂

Great story Brother 👍. I was born in the UK but of African ancestry and I have been travelling to Asia since 2008 been to Thailand once I can relate to all you said about being dark skinned, the bias and prejudice depending on who you encounter amongst some Thai people. Some were friendly with me and my friend also from the UK and some were not. I am 100% African and proudly African regardless of being born in the UK and I defiantly won't let any race or person look down on me or negatively treat me badly because I am black and African. There is nothing wrong being an African, its purely ignorance and poor education in Asia that makes many Asians think lame about Africans or other dark skinned people from America or the Carribbean. I have visited several countries like Japan, Philippines. Singapore , Thailand and HongKong. Malaysia, South Korea.Vietnam , Laos and Cambodia not yet but I have heard Africans do get stereotyped and discriminated against in various situations in some of these countries and it really does piss me off. Some Africans from the motherland continent go to these countries and commit crimes now adding fuel to the fire 🔥 and make the travel experience bad for other decent African travelling around Asia but why judge an entire group of Africans as bad because of the action of a tiny percentage of Africans. However I will never let the bad actions of a small percentage of Africans from motherland Africa ruin my travel adventures in Asia especially The Philippines and Singapore my favourite countries of all times in Asia because my experiences in both countries since 2008 has been nothing but fantastic and amazing.

FYI: There're LOTS of Asians all over Africa committing crimes. The Chinese send all of their criminals to Africa to work on different construction projects. Yet, in Africa Everyone is welcomed.

Does it make it right ? Is it sad? yes we all human just accept who you are and believe in yourself there's no general standards of beauty except the one you make yourself after being able to believe in yourself dont let negativity or other people tells you what beauty is. 35 years ago I studied English courses for TOFEL exams and the international school I attended had many black teachers. One in my class full of bubbling and giggling Thai students, both males and females, middle age to teen (I was a 16 years old back then). We felt odd on the first day due to unfamiliarity with BLACK TEACHERS but after the first day everything went well. We teased our black teacher a lot, not for his skin but his name. He had a girl name and he always joke about it. 😂😇 Imagine the understanding and openness 35 years ago compared to now.

You young brothers are late!😍😂, just messing with you, I live in Europe in the seventies, stay 7 years in five different countries, they treated me the same way. I learned to speak a few different languages, I learn how to say hello in over 10 languages, Hello, Goodbye, how you doing, it's remarkable how just learning a few words in some other languages in their country, it goes a long way, fortunately for most Americans they speak English and most of Europe, but me speaking just some of other languages and course being fluent in one or two, it tells people that you are concerned about them as well as yourself. I read about Thailand years back, one of the five places for black people to go when they're tired of the United States, everything I've heard is really great. I've been back in the States for 20 years now. I was talking to some German ladies in line at a Japanese fast food, in downtown Atlanta, it really made me miss being outside of the US, the States are great, but it's always good to see other countries and live there, it's just kind of remarkable. So I'm just messing with you guys, when I say you're late cuz I'm old school. A Roman vendor calling me an Egyptians on the streets of Rome in 1975, I was a young man back then. But thanks for the video, very influential, very good, very informative. Thank you, I may have to visit Thailand. Swet,d
