Living Authentically for Christ in Hollywood

Lisa Whelchel was only 12 when she auditioned for the role of the Mouseketeer for Walt Disney "The New Mickey Mouse Club." However, most of us would remember Lisa as Blair Warner on NBC's "The Facts of Life". Lisa went on to author her first book, "Creative Correction", which was released October 2000, and many other books subsequently. Through all the fame and trials, her faith in Jesus was the one thing that kept her through and the one thing that she held onto.

I have admired Lisa for years, particularly after the episode she asked to be written out of. I loved FOL. When I was a teenager, 'Jo' was my favorite character-as she was for most watchers, I believe. But as I matured, and being a Christian, I came to have tremendous respect for Lisa. She has been steady as a rock all of these years; raising a family as a Christian wife and mother and never compromising her beliefs in Hollywood. She is a true role model to me, even now. Beautiful lady, inside and out. I still listen to her Christian album 'All Because of You' & bought "Lessons My Father Taught Me" when it first came out. I still re-read it. I had no good role models as a kid, discovered her as an adult, a bit late, but her example set me on a better path. I loved her Christian blog & seeing a picture of her at Starbucks studying her Bible. I also discovered Stormie Omartian through her work. I personally am glad to see that she is sensible with her Christianity. So many are are simply not. On her own in La? That young? She would have needed an enormous amount of courage. She would have been successful as Rachel in Friends a part she apparently turned down due to conflict of interest in lifestyle portrayal etc. And of course she has aged quite well. But really what does that matter she contributed to an excellent show that had a lot of message for young woman in a time when females simply were eyeliner and dolls on tv.. with only a peppering of true grit characters never mind "teens". God can get complicated as frankly so many people are sooo many faiths. I wonder if Welchel will ever do anything further in the performing arts?

I'm really impressed that at such a young age, she chose to go to that church and she eventually chose to accept Jesus as her savior. She didn't have Christian parents encouraging her to take that way. I feel like that probably helped her continue to follow Christ through all of the experiences of Hollywood. She really saw something for herself. It wasn't as if she was from a churchgoing family and that she kind of became a believer by "default". Jesus was able to capture her directly.
