Nothing makes me cry more than thinking about the blind of our society. I remember going to work early in the morning around 6 am years ago and seeing a blind lady that was ALWAYS there, I assume going to work, and struggling like the rest of us, using her cane and navigating her environment. Around that time I was very discontent with my life feeling sorry for myself, but when i saw her EVERY day doing the same thing I was doing, going to work out of sheer necessity, without the miraculous gift and privilege of sight, it made me weep like a baby when i was by myself in my room thinking about her and others in her situation. It's still hard to take. May the good lord bless their souls!

I was born about 3 months too early and I weighed 2.2lbs in 1968. I was in an incubator for two months and had open heart surgery when I was two years old. We are both lucky to be alive, you and me, Chris! I am legally blind. 20/200 and 20/400. I'm 48 now. I went to college too at LA Tech. In Ruston, LA, the same town as LA TECH, they have a wonderful Center for the Blind there and I attended their 6 month program. I learned how to use a white cane, read Braille, orientation and mobility classes, computer classes using JAWS, and basic independence and life skills. I highly recommend LA Center for the Blind. We are lucky to be alive right now, with all of this great technology that helps us. My retinas didn't develop fully, nor in the correct location in my eyes, so I am suffering from exotropia (outward turned eyes -- strabismus) and also a severe nystagmus. Recently my vitreous liquid in my left eye is detaching and I am losing the little sight I have in that eye. This is a common thing for people with Retinopathy of Prematurity to possibly experience in their 40's- 50's, so I'm right on schedule apparently, hahaha. Good Luck to you, Chris! PS-- are you a member of the National Federation of the Blind? I am, they were a huge help to me all of my life.

@@albinoguidedog your dog looks super cute, btw! I'm just worried that noone would hire a blind person if there's a normal person who applied for the job, especially since I don't live in a very modern country. I'm sorry if I'm bothering you, but how can a (completely) blind person be a teacher when they can't see what their students are doing and if they're cheating on exams?
@albinoguidedog

@don't let corona bite I was a teachers aid for a few years for a special ed school. Most blind people that are teachers usually teach other blind students. And sadly if a blind person and a sighted person both went for a job the chances of the sight person getting the job are higher then the blind person. Even if that sighted person has less qualifications then the blind person.

No and this is a very frustrating question that anyone with a vision impairment is constantly asked. There are many different causes of vision loss, most of which cannot be “fixed“ by any current medical technology. It doesn’t mean that someone who is blind cannot live a happy, successful and fulfilling life, have a great career, raise a family etc. It’s unfortunate that someone who is visually impaired constantly faces bombardment with questions about why we don’t just wear better glasses or get surgery.
