I’m around your age too man. When this came out it hit me hard. My greatest memory of this song is when my father drove me to the record store to pick this up. I got the cassette. On the way home I popped it in. My fathers mind was blown too. He was a rock lover and the joy in the car that day in the car is seared in my brain. I am a 52-year-old black man and I have been a Huge Living Colour fan since the late '80s. But it has always baffled me as to why they don't have a HUGE black fan base. This band is 110% Pro-Black and all of their lyrics speak directly to POC. Personally, I think Vernon Reid is easily one of the 5 best guitarists on the planet. Even if thats a contentious idea, his body of work cannot be denied. He played on Public Enemy's 'Yo, Bum Rush the Show' and, I believe, 'It Takes a Nation of Millions To Hold Us Back'. Additionally he does solo work and work with his own instrumental group Masque, as well as techno crossovers with DJ Logic (see: Yohimbe Brothers). And probably some stuff Ive forgotten. Funny you mention primus. My dream ensemble is: Mike Patton (vocals/faith no more) Vernon Reid Les Claypool (bass/Primus) Tomas Haake (percussion/meshuggah) Keep killin it, Jamel. Also. Request reiteration: "And Plague flowers the Kaleidoscope" by Ne Obliviscaris. 6 man prog metal band from australia with a classically trained violinist lead. Vernon Reid was easily one of the most original and unique guitarists of the '80s and early 90s. His frantic, thrash, out-of-and-then-back-into key melodic style of soloing was just not like anyone else. And as cool as the album Vivid was(from which "Cult of Personality" was their one and only hit), the follow-up album "Time's Up" was MUCH better in every way. Musically, lyrically, in quality of the engineering, it was a quantum leap forward---and hardly anyone has ever heard of it. A damn shame if you ask me. This band NEVER got the recognition they deserved.

You see her watching TV, as the band plays the song, she becomes mesmerized, completely engrossed. Just as the song comes to a close, she leans forward to shut off the TV. This song is an indictment of the industrial complex that is the mainstream media.....ALL platforms of media. It is the 'Cult of Personality' that you can not take at face value. @@carlospacheco5994 No he isn't. I followed this band in early to mid 1980's when the begun, playing in NYC. Vern Reid was known as a top guitarist...which he is. Another thing, was it was unheard of of an all black band playing rock and roll and hard rock. These guys played at the Ritz in NYC and I must've saw them 30 times...because a close friend of mine was their manager. I then went off to medical school and haven't heard much about the bands progression in music.
