Living in a 4x4 Truck Awning Room: FINALLY a good spring snowstorm to start the day!

The awning room is working out really well, I'm pleased with this as a springtime hot tent shelter. More snow forecasted mid week, I'll have the cameras ready. ~ Brian (& Sierra - woof!)

I love how you love your sweet baby girl. I lost my best friend a couple of years ago, I had him for over 15 years. It absolutely killed me when he finally passed on. 15 years between a man and his dog is a long time. We had some of the best times of my life together that I will never forget. I STILL cry over him... I can't bring myself to get another dog. Anyway, I'm sorry I rambled on about my dog, just the way you are with her reminded me of Brutus and me. I'm new to your channel, and I absolutely LOVE it. I wish I could do the same kind of thing. I'm very interested in living a lifestyle like this. Awesome job brother!! Agree on the dog sentiments. We know we are going to go through pain when we have to say goodbye, but we keep getting them....true love for these best of friends! I cry for 4-5 days each time.

Justin Hall Sorry about your best friend :( Regarding getting another dog, absolutely do it, your past friend would totally approve and your new friend will help you heal, times I felt no way I could get another and he/she becomes your new best friend and you can cherish past times and smile about them while sharing and cherishing new times, they heal you every time :) Don’t feel like you’re “cheating” on your past friend If that’s how your feeling. Awesome venture Rick! I’m seriously considering the ARB enclosed set up for the awning. I was thinking it wasn’t as durable enough like the roof top tents but I don’t like how big and heavy they are and taking up the whole rack whole the awning and enclosure takes up hardly any space. After seeing what yours is going through, I think I’m feeling pretty confident about it!

Hey Justin, I'm so sorry to hear about Brutus. 15 years, man that's a long time together! I bet you have some great memories from your time together. I hate to think about the day when Sierra will no longer be with me, that's going to be extremely tough. She's pulled me through some dark times and I don't know where I'd be if it wasn't for her. Seeing you giving Sierra those gentle, morning time belly rubs made me miss my dog Zoey. I got her as a puppy when I was 16, we were 2 peas in a pod for 18 years! Doggies are good to have during a snow storm. Three years ago I lost power in my trailer for four days during an ice storm and I wound up making a fort in the living room. Outside high was 12° inside the trailer was 33° and inside the fort with the dog was 56°. She did a good job keeping my feet warm

This is like the third video I have seen on camping out west were people keep saying. I didn’t prepare for this much snow and didn’t bring, boots, wood, compass, map, etc. In Michigan you expect the weather to change. My wife says I am paranoid because I bring a bag that has my heavy weather clothing, rain gear, cold weather gear that can be layered. Weather radio. If I go out for three days I have 6 days of food and water. That said I use my rig as a base camp and then move out from it. My dog acts as scout and I make sure she has her supplies handy.

That's because this is during mud season in the spring, you don't need to carry all your winter gear with you. Probably best to understand the weather out here before being critical of what gear they are carrying in the Spring. lol.

Love your videos.....zippers are the bane of any long term outdoor gear. Iv'e owned my cotton canvas tent and my titanium 4 Dog Stove for almost 20 years now. It doesn't get the fulltime use that yours does but the tent and the stove that I got from Don is repairable and incredible. If you replace your tent look into one of the all cotton varieties......they work incredibly well in the winter and you can patch up permanent burn holes and tears yourself with a hand awl and heavy thread and cotton canvas patches. I have the same ARB 2500 awning and tent setup on my Vanagon Westfalia. The first time I used it was on the Olympic peninsula and it rained about 2 inches that night. I didn't put enough angle for runoff and the awning got destroyed, no tears but the support arms broke and everything was tweaked. Lucky for me ARB's USA HQ is near where I live. Took it to them to see if it could be fixed, and they just exchanged me for a new one. Best customer service ever, great people.

Make a fly for the top, 2 adjustable tent poles and tied roof the the far side of the car at a slope , it will give a extra insulation for the top as well, and I would be putting a patent on the slide out camper , brilliant isea

I lived in Colorado for 20 yrs and it can snow all year round depending on your elevation. The heavier wet snow starts in early March typically and will go until June.
