You might have already known that Amsterdam is one of the most expensive cities to live in Europe (top 10). But how expensive is it really, in terms of day-to-day expenses such as buying groceries, eating out, public transportation, and other hobbies?
Of course, it's so hard to break it down exactly + there are so many other factors that can contribute to your weekly, and monthly costs...but this video is meant to give you a general idea of the basics & get a sneak peek of my life in Amsterdam, Netherlands!
Let me know in the comments what you think - how near/far is it from the cost of living in your city?
Keep exploring,
Natasha - The Travelling Foxes

Very insightful video. I too think by cooking yourself and choosing bicycle for transportation as much we can reduce the costs in Amsterdam.

Thanks for your comment! Indeed there are a couple of ways to save up. I think for most it is really rent or other house costs that add up to the expenses.

Albert Heijn is expensive but nearby everywhere. Much more economical is Lidl or Dirk van der Broek.

It has always been very difficult to get a place to live in Amsterdam because too many people want to live there. In the past it used to be mainly Dutch people, but nowadays there is a lot of people from other countries too. As a student in the early seventies it took me seven years of moving all across the city before I found a permanent place to rent. Luckily there is excellent rent protection so I never gave up the studio.

Lol the head on that beer, the rest of europe really rips you off with that compared to the UK. I remember asking in the Heineken brewery years ago why they do it and they said it's to keep the bubbles in which is total bollocks :)

how is 9000Euros after tax ? planning to spend around 2k. Coming for a 6mo project. I would definitely share, to save some cash, anyway I am missing sharing university days since I am not relocating my family.

Hello just asking does 2700 Monthly salary for a solo working for a start can survive in the Netherlands? can you do a video of how much does the rent pad or room maybe a budget like 700 to 900 EUD ?
@TheTravellingFoxes
@TheTravellingFoxes Жыл бұрын
2,700 before or after tax? Tax rates are pretty high here but I think a minimum of 2k per month NETT should be sufficient for you! If you are single definitely recommend to flat-share and you can get for 800-900eur if you look hard enough. :)

Natasha please tell me how to find an apartment 😭. My partner (Filipina 😊) and I are moving end of July. I'm being transferred to Amsterdam and my company is even having trouble finding us an apartment. Ps. Love your videos.

the housing market has become ridiculous in the Netherlands in the last few years. there is a housing shortage for first-time buyers and in the large cities there is a monopoly between landlords. the only way to find a home in a short time is to pay the top price

@@_Zeru that's unfortunate to hear. We've been trying so hard to rent an apartment for the last two months...apartments are taken as soon as they're posted on Funda. Looks like we have to live out of the hotel for a bit 🙃

@@DC90_ my advice is to look at "private rent" or in Dutch "particulier huren" but outside of the city where it's a whole lot cheaper. Also our public transportation system is great. .you can literally travel half the country in an hour .. just not when 1 snowflake falls haha but you will get that joke soon enough..

Oh it really is a big issue here unfortunately! :( try asking around your network, maybe some of them needs to move out soon or might know an open place. Sorry if I can’t help any further though!
