I’m from Florida born and raised , 25 years old . I’ve been to about all the amusement parks and visited the keys, Miami , most of the beaches along the east and west coast of Florida , as well as attraction areas in northern Florida including Saint Augustine and Tallahassee. I’d have to say that I do love Florida , but I’ve recently visited North Carolina near Murphy and fell in love with the mountains / trails and hiking environment , the people in NC seem to be nicer and the weather seems to be amazing . I’m considering moving to NC because even tho there is a lot to do in Florida , I’ve already done it all and basically do nothing but work and go home anyways and comparing what I rather experience on a daily basis and sights I’d like to see when I step out the house , I prefer the mountains and woods than the tropical busy cities .

@@ChrisVincelli I like the feeling you get from seeing mountains , makes you really feel on earth and in tune with nature . Florida is flat and only place I can feel in tune with nature is the beach and the Everglades . Even tho they are beautiful places to visit in Florida , I prefer what the mountains have to offer like high views and hiking , waterfalls and creeks

From asheville lived in charlotte, Savannah ga, Honolulu and then back home. Asheville area...yes murphy to me counts lol is the best. Even with our governor and asheville being lil portland u can just avoid it.

I am fortunate to have homes in both states, and I've been going back and forth for years now. I think that the difference between the two states in the Summer is twofold: 1) Summers last much, much longer in Florida (especially South Florida) and 2) The evenings/nights in Florida don't cool off at all for months and months, and it's pretty oppressive while the the evenings/nights in NC are more tolerable. As for culture, the two largest cities in NC feel less and less Southern as the years go by. You are definitely correct about Asian culture being more prevalent in the NC cities like Raleigh and the entire Research Triangle where education and high tech are pretty dominant. In Miami it's like there isn't an Asian or South Asian culture in particular or in comparison to the Triangle. As of late, there are more and more Floridians moving to NC as they find themselves priced out of Florida.

@@ChrisVincelli My favorite things would be outdoor concerts at Romaire Bearden park, riding bikes and scooters along the rail trail and uptown, going to freedom park and just hanging out in uptown. Lots of museums, restaurants and bars. Panther game day is huge too. Home games are like a celebration, people everywhere and the bars are packed. Pre-pandemic that is.

came across this video after randomly watched your video comparing Canada and USA. we are similar in that I grew up in Toronto Canada, moved to the US, now living in NC but have a second home in Florida. It sounds like you know a lot more about Florida than NC, especially western NC. There is so much to do in the mountains, from fly fishing, white water rafting, hiking, to spirited driving (tail of the dragon, etc), not to mention the magical mountain views. I only go go Florida if necessary from June - Sept. those are best time to go to the mountains, not for a wkd, minimum a week!

I think it depends on you, I respect your opinion but I don’t agree. I lived in FL and you don’t go the the theme parks every weekend, is expensive, if you live in Miami yes there is a nightlife but not sure is going to the beach every weekend is something that you always want to do when in NC you have many other options, you are in DC in 5 hours. You are in Atlanta in 3/4 hours, you are in the beach in 3 hours, you can even be in FL in 5 hrs, my point is, human-made things to do is a vacation option that you can do sometimes but when you are near to the mountains, near to the lakes, near to other states it is amazing. If you live in Miami only to get out of the state in your car is 7 hours you have to take a Flight yes or yes while in NC you have plenty of thing to do local or out of state really close. That is my opinion I love Charlotte, I’m from Miami and honestly, my life is better now.

Florida is a great state to live. North Carolina is a great state to live in. Comparing these 2 states is like comparing Scuppernong grapes to Oranges. I've lived in South Florida for 27+ years and now live in NC. I will point out a couple things from this video that might be misleading on Florida vs NC 1- Food Yes Florida has many different types of foods but most are really bad examples of those foods. Many people, especially people from the NE complain about how bad the food is in South Florida. pizza, Chinese food, bagels, seafood, steaks, Mediterranean, the list goes on and on. North Carolina food scene is great. Many options, from many cultures with good representation of those foods. Southern comfort food, BBQ and fried are still dominant. Many mom and pop restaurants that have been around for ages. 2- Climate This is an easy one. Florida is great if you can afford to be poolside or at the beach everyday. Unfortunately most people have to work, a lot. Florida gets so hot and humid during the 7-8 months of summer that it is difficult to cool off unless you are stripped down to your bathing suit. I hated wearing a suit or business attire and being soaked in sweat by the time I got to my car. Florida summers are like taking a hot shower then putting your clothes on without drying yourself. North Carolina gets just as hot and humid but it only last about 3-4 months. The cold weather is a different story. It is 26 degrees as I type this but I love it. 3- Entertainment Florida has tons of things to do. Beaches, night clubs, pools, the everglades, all the amusement parks in Orlando and Tampa.($$$$) What got to me was the fact that you cant really enjoy most of these things because of the amount of people. Have you ever been to Universal or Disney before covid and paid $100+ to get in to the park only to wait 45-60 minutes for each ride? You can't visit the parks during the summer because of the crowds, heat and humidity. If you live in South Florida, Orlando is a 3+ hour drive. (you mention there aren't any amusement parks in NC) Carrowinds, Busch Gardens Virginia and Kings Dominion are all a 3 hour drive from Raleigh. I can go on and on. 2 great states but right now I'm leaning to North Carolina

I'm originally from NY and have lived in central FL for the past 15 years. My husband and I came to realize that we really miss the change of seasons and love the idea of seeing more trees and mountains...we are moving to NC by this summer. Although the gulf beaches here are amazing, the landscape is pretty much the same everywhere..flat with palm trees. Also the brutal FL heat just goes on for too long in my opinion. We have summer weather for 8-10 months straight. Then when the nice 70s weather comes in the winter, it's a trade off because that's when the snowbirds and tourists come and crowd the roads, beaches, and restaurants. We've noticed also, that this year Florida has stayed crowded after Easter. Usually the snowbirds go back home by then, but with covid and FL being "more open" than other states, people are clearly flocking here to stay! Just my opinion and experience.

Real estate on the coast is very expensive and keeps going up. I was raised on the coast and we couldn't afford to buy a home. We moved to the Orlando area, but it's so crowded and thousands more are moving here monthly, so home prices have sky rocketed here, too. We are looking into moving to NC. We love hiking in the mountains and I think a slower pace will be a breath of fresh air.

A very interesting take on FL vs NC. I am a native Floridian. My husband and I are thinking of moving to NC. We live in South Florida. Bottom line: it is expensive, congested, and the locals can be challenging, to say the least. I agree with most of the comparisons, but living in Florida gets old, too. The amusement parks are expensive. The summers are oppressively hot. There are a lot of interesting sites and parks, but there are only so many times you can visit them. We also look forward to living in a state where other states are easily accessible. Living in South Florida means that it takes a full day in the car to make it over to Georgia. Makes traveling tiresome.

Hi Sarah, since you are a native Floridian, I would like to ask you what about the hurricanes in both states, Florida X North Carolina. Which one has more of it and is safer in general. I also don't like the crocodiles, too many reptils around. And which is hotter, and has more humidity in summer. My main concerns would be tornadoes in North Carolina and hail storms and floods , I’ve been through many hurricanes but never seems to scare me more than thinking about what a tornado can do .. so my advice is move to where you think has more pros than cons in your way of living . All depends on what turns you on in both states. Most of Florida is all the same. I think North Carolina has more diversity in Landscape /beaches which makes it more interesting then Florida. There are plenty of things to see in North Carolina. you need to be more open and diverse minded to see what all it has to offer. Charlotte has plenty to see, the beach towns have things, the mountain areas, plus caves and other outdoor stuff to see like Ashville which is very bohemian, hippy like has plenty to see and the list goes on. Florida is like one big Amusement park , with big tourist cities that have what mostly any other big city would have and sports teams, there are restaurants, bars, clubs, and fun parks, tourist everywhere. That can get old after awhile even though its nice to see and a lot of money to spend.. North Carolina has way more Culture. Florida has very little culture unless you live in south Florida where they have a large Latino culture. Florida lost most of its southern culture many many years ago. For a much different Variety I give North Carolina the Thumbs up over Florida.

You also have alot of carribean food in Florida, Jamaican, Hatian etc. I moved from Florida to South Carolina. Cant wait to travel to NC. I love the mountains here and the neighborhoods are amazing. But South Florida is where my heart is. 🧡 The one thing I couldnt stand when I moved to SC is the lack of good deals that are easy to find in FL. Yes the cost of living (housing) is higher in FL now but SC and Im sure NC are more expensive in other ways....groceries, electricity etc.

From FL, lived in several different areas. Truly miss the beaches, Keys, Sanibel, fishing, etc. Moved to Western NC and love it 6 years ago. For me cost of living has been around the same. There are pros and cons to both. Taxes are higher in one but, but insurance is lower in the other. Traffic in FL is definitely more of an issue. I suppose crime as well perhaps depending on your local. Currently happy in WNC area, but would like to have a condo/house again in FL again one day. We like the seasons and love our Mountains and waterfalls. Politics are aligned for the most part as well between both states so that's important for some. I can say being here and having a rental property there were plenty of folks moving from FL for anecdotal perspective. I guess the heat was a big driver and just a change, but then again going there for a month recently was not that bad and made me miss it again somewhat - being there a month that is. Schools seem to be better up here at least from my perspective..

I live in Florida and visited NC, honestly, I prefer NC, one because of the weather. It's way too hot in Florida and we barely get any difference in seasons. ​ Another thing I noticed that the prices are lower in North Carolina, specifically Walmart. North Carolina also has mountains, and... Florida doesn't have any as it is literally a few feet high in most places. Not to mention snow, now some people hate snow and shoveling it, but personally, I like the snow. And housing.. the housing market is skyrocketing in terms of pricing. And taxes are mostly lower minus healthcare. (to my knowledge)

Saying "Southern Culture" can conjure up lots of thoughts, some of mine may not be correct or not what you intended to suggest.

@@ChrisVincelli went there and it quickly became evident we did not have as good of a time doing what we wanted without a boat. The ratio of boats v cars, is probably pretty close. Cannot imagine someone paying what it cost to live there, and not having one.

When talking about things to do, you mostly just mention theme parks. I have a couple points on that. Yes, Florida has a lot more theme parks but you didn't point out Carowinds outside Charlotte, which is a paradise for lovers of roller coasters, and has the fifth tallest roller coaster in the entire world -- taller than any roller coaster in Florida. But second, there are a lot of people like me who don't give a squat about theme parks. I live in California and NEVER visit the theme parks here. I'm into active sports, which I don't think you don't talked about. One sport you did mention was white water rafting, but again you only mentioned that with respect to the U.S. National Whitewater Center in Charlotte, another theme park. But North Carolina also has REAL whitewater rafting, on the Tuckaseegee River, the Green River, the Nantahala River, the French Broad River, the Pigeon River, and maybe others. For people like me who like active and adventure sports, Florida has boating and parasailing and water skiing, but so does North Carolina! But North Carolina ALSO has whitewater rafting/canoeing/kayaking/tubing; mountain climbing and hiking; rock climbing; hang gliding; snow skiing and snowboarding; spelunking/caving, while Florida has NONE of that. (On the coast, NC also has the tallest sand dunes in the eastern U.S. at Jockey's Ridge, which is great for learning to hang glide.) So if you're someone with an active lifestyle who is into adventure sports, North Carolina wins hands down. But if your thing is just sitting on rides in theme parks then, yeah, go to Florida.

@@ChrisVincelli Hmm. That's a tough one. It's mostly apples and oranges in both cases with some slight similarities. The one thing California has going for it that neither NC or Florida do is balmy weather throughout most of the year. It rarely gets uncomfortably hot here. Many of us don't even have air conditioners in our homes because they would rarely be turned on. That said, the hot and sticky weather seems far worse to me in FL versus NC, or at least that weather lasts a lot longer in FL. I've been in FL a couple times in the spring, including on a business trip with some of my colleagues from California. It was in April and we found ourselves constantly racing to get inside to the air conditioning. I never experienced hot and sticky weather in April anywhere else. Up in NC, April is a most beautiful month. The weather doesn't get nasty until the summer, which explains part of the theory of the "halfbacks" -- the name for those people from the Northeast who move to FL, then find they don't like it but also don't want to move back north, so they go halfway back and settle in NC. But back to the comparison to California, we're mostly desert here so in addition to the perfect weather nearly year round, we don't have lush landscapes like you have in NC and FL. That's the benefit of the humidity, I guess -- you get a lot more greenness than in CA. In that respect, I think both states are preferable to CA. Green is beautiful and largely missing here. Some similarities: In my personal opinion, Miami and Los Angeles have a similar vibe. I don't mean it so much in terms of people (e.g., Cubans in Miami and Mexicans in L.A., which are very distinct cultures from one another), but just the laid back yet still exciting atmosphere with lots of restaurants, nightclubs, music -- along with beaches. Of course, SoCal also has the surfing culture with some of the best beaches anywhere for surfing. North Carolina, on the other hand, has its major cities inland, far from the beaches, so they don't have as much of an outdoorsy/beachy-mixed-with clubs-and-music vibe like Miami and L.A. On the other hand, California has both beaches and mountains, like NC, but unlike FL. And many of the same things we do in the mountains here in California, people also do in the mountains of NC. However, we have much better skiing here. Some of the best in the country. California also has San Francisco, which is unlike any other city in California -- a truly a unique place which feels on the one hand very American, but in some respects it also feels very European. And its beauty and topography are incomparable. Neither NC or FL have a place like that. Then there's population and population density. All three states are among the nation's top ten most populous states, with California obviously at the head of the pack with the most people of any state. HOWEVER, people in California are mostly concentrated within the metro areas, outside of which there are vast amounts of uninhabited lands. That makes CA unique from both NC and FL, which are full out hundreds of small cities and towns and villages outside of the metro areas. But in terms of overall population density, FL has the most people per square mile -- 378 -- versus 251 per square mile in CA and 206 per square mile in NC. So based on those numbers, it would appear FL is way more crowded than both CA and NC. But like I said, people in CA are mostly crowded together within the major metros, with empty desert areas or mountains or farms outside of those metros. So within the metros, CA probably feels as crowded as FL. In Southern California (as well as the SF Bay Area), the metros are concentrated along the coast. You're literally driving for a couple hundred miles through cities and suburbs, starting around Malibu, through L.A. and its suburbs, then Orange County, then San Diego and its suburbs, which end at the Mexican border where you enter Tijuana and it continues. The only separation between all of that is fifteen or so miles driving through Camp Pendleton. So there's a feeling of no escape when you're driving north to south and vice versa (two or three hours of nonstop city). Florida can feel like that as well The NC metros, however, don't leave you with that never ending feeling. The Charlotte metro, while fairly large, does end after 45 minutes of driving, and then there is some countryside before you reach the smallish Triad metro and, and also little between the Triad and the Triangle.

@@MrVidaeverdade beautiful description! I've been to FL (Ft. Meyer's) and fell in LOVE with the white sand, pristine beaches. Before that, all I've ever known and seen was brown sand (more recently, "black" sand's here in Diego). FL is very much like something out of Miami Vice. I came across this small beach town that was nothing but neon colors and very bright scenery. Remarkably beautiful. The weather is unpredictable and tempermental. San diego however is very constant 75 degrees, which I love! It's consistent. However, it's also not nearly as exciting as getting caught in the middle of a thunderstorm in Florida haha! They are both coastal states but soooo different that I love both in their own ways and flavor. I would LIVE in California Diego year round, but I would PARTY in Florida with all it has to offer and do year round. I still can't get over the white sands there... it's just something out of a postcard. The sunsets in San Diego is breathtaking. Heavenly, I must say. I've never been to NC yet. I have a cousin who INSIST I visit him there because Charlotte is supposedly a great place to visit and live. I'll see soon enough!

@@benjaminjo You should definitely visit your cousin in Charlotte. While there are some fun things to do there, like the U.S. National Whitewater Center (I think that's what it's called), don't expect to find a tourist town. It's just a fast-growing city with new this, new that everywhere. So that sort of energy, and very livable. (And if you like beer 😊 ) And there are some very pretty areas. The whole southeastern section of the city -- Myers Park to Southpark and on to points further south -- is like a great big La Jolla, but with a lot of trees and without the ocean views. But the real plus about visiting Charlotte is that it's a good launching point to visit other places towards the east and west. It's very centrally located. Go east to the coast. The NC Outer Banks are amazing for the beautiful, endless, unspoiled beaches. And while it's not CA, some parts of the OBX have the best waves for surfing in the East. Then to the south in SC and GA are the beautiful historic cities of Charleston and Savannah, and they are a fairly easy trip from Charlotte. Then go west to the NC mountains. Check out Asheville as there is much to see and do there (very walkable and lots going on downtown, and the Biltmore House on the edge of town (East Coast equivalent of Hearst Castle, but bigger than Hearst Castle), and Grove Park Inn. Take a drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway (the East Coast equivalent of the Pacific Coast Highway), or head into the Great Smokies National Park.

Thanks for the video! There are pros and cons to every state, no perfect place anywhere. For me, as a 12 year full time Florida resident, I’m ready to go, been ready to go for 12 years lol 😂. There are great things to FL, don’t get me wrong, but for me the cons by far outweigh the pros. The severe lack of topography, no seasons, oppressive heat for 8-10 months straight, too congested, too centered around shopping and costly theme parks; I’m over it. When we do have nice weather (Jan-Mar), sadly you have to claw your way to get an inch on the beach as it’s crowded with snowbirds and tourists. I will enjoy visiting FL but I’m anxious to move to NC. NC to me offers much more diversity, 4 seasons, much easier access to a plethora of other states and different geography, plus access to bigger cities and comparable cost of living to FL. Can’t wait to become a North Carolinian!!

You don't really get that here. Its more rural and people have lived here their whole life. Some are welcoming and some are not. Once you live in Broward/Dade its hard to not want to return.

The bigots and racists used to keep their thoughts to themselves and not act out, because they knew that their shameful opinions and feelings wouldn't be accepted, and that they would be called out. By trump's loud racial dog-whistles, outspoken rhetoric, and racist border policies, he and those who support him have "come out of the closet" so to speak. By his speech and policies - specifically against the Latino/Hispanic community (and all brown people, generally) - they feel like they are finally validated, and able to bring what used to be hidden up to the surface. Racism and bigotry was always there under the surface, but he gave them a license to act out. We need to beat those ideas back into the closet and sweep out the trash. I feel sad for - and frustrated by - the Hispanics and other minorities that still support the Republican's agenda. They are voting against their own best interests and progress for all people. It may take all brown people and decent white people to unite for what is right and decent - despite our differences. Also, in NC it depends on where you live. The smaller towns still have the "good ole' boy" networks in place. Major NC cities (Greensboro, Raleigh, Durham, Charlotte, Asheville, Winston-Salem, etc), and larger metro areas are more diverse and less bigoted, generally.

@@losonamission Yes there is. The 4 seasons changes are typically acknowledged by their physical changes to the environment. Every where experiences the 4 seasons but it’s not the same. So we differentiate between a normal, strong , or weak season. its definitely seen as weird when people get what’s seen as normal in others. The true winter is a fair statement because areas like Austin, Tx don’t really get snow but when it does snow it’s surprising. Because they have a milder winter it’s not seen as a true winter. I doubt anyone in Texas describes their winters the same as ones in Minnesota or Colorado. It all varies but the typical ideas of a seasons are real things and normal day to day people don’t care about the technicalities involved. It was 60 degrees & sunny in Southern California last week. The sunbelt is loved by some for not having the typical seasons Everyone expects.

@@ChrisVincelli Alot of people go to those colleges and are big fans. Also in the triangle for example the pro sports teams in Charlotte are far away and they suck so college is the next best thing. And UNC and Duke are the two best college basketball teams ever so they have a huge rivalry. They are only 8 miles apart. Even if you don’t go to one of these schools if you grow up in the triangle you have to pick if you are a UNC, NC State or Duke fan and it basically becomes part of who you are. I see shirts for college teams way more often than pro teams at school. And NC has 18 D1 schools which is the 4th most. Many of these schools are small but many have huge stadiums. For example the UNC basketball arena seats 21,750 people and the hornets stadium only seats 20,200. The panthers stadium does have way more seats than any college football stadium but 3 schools have stadiums that seat more than 50,000 people and 4 more seat between 20,000 and 34,000.

Hurricane season in the south has been increasing in severity (“climate change”). I’ve moved a ton in my 30 years and my next move out of NYC again I hope to be my last (unless I get into Harvard 😂). But I’ve put in a lot of time tracking scientists future geographic perdictions and the plate tectonics history of North America (so for example Seattle so long over due for a SEVERE earthquake as it lays on an infamous fault line). THUS, I’m having this (“climate change”) play a guiding factor in where I move to for my “FINAL” move. I also own real estate so perhaps this is why I’m considering my decision with more gravity but I think THIS is an important factor to consider for anyone younger than 45/50. The world will be a very different place in 20-30+ years.

Native Floridan here. Family been here since late 1800's. I made a huge mistake living in Florida career wise. Even though Florida has beautiful tourists traps, it lacks in career opportunities outside of hospitality and medical. I heard NC has better career opportunities. Just look at Raleigh Durham and Charlotte. There's nothing geographically exciting about those cities - no beaches, both are somewhat hilly but not picturistally mountainous, but they seem to be more big on creating a variety of jobs and careers in more abundance compared to Florida. Florida doesn't have a 'Research Triangle' or a banking, medical or finance hub. Think about it, no Florida city has the amount of University presence as Raleigh Durham - UNC Chapel Hill, NC State, Duke, NCAT&T.

So as a native South Carolinian who now lives in NC, and has family in FL, I have to say that I agree with some of this but there are some issues I have with this video: saying there aren’t many things to do in NC except beaches and mountains. For any outdoor lover, NC has so much to do with so much variety and this in and of itself is a lot. But amusement parks in FL were mentioned so comparing apples to apples, we have Carowinds here. We don’t have the quantity of amusement parks, but we have some. And Busch Gardens is technically in Virginia but it is just about as close to us as Disney is to Miami. In terms of other attractions, we have the NC Zoo which is the largest natural habitat zoo in the world and it’s right outside Raleigh. We have 3 state aquariums that are along the coast and are amazing. Each summer we tour the Sea turtle rehabilitation hospital on Topsail Island. Plus, all the museums in Raleigh. Raleigh is referred to as the Smithsonian of the South (and the NC Natural Science Museum is one of the most popular ones...my kids love it). You have the wild horses at Shackleford Banks and the Outer Banks. Great Wolf Lodge. The Biltmore (which is amazing to tour in Christmas as well as spring and summer). The list is much longer than this video would lead you to believe. NC is an amazing state to live in and has tons of things to do. I invite everyone to visit this website and see just how much there is to do in NC www.visitnc.com/things-to-do I’ll also add that my brother lives in Pensacola, FL and the weather there is very similar to where we are in NC. Just the other morning it was in the low 30’s there. Based on a more southern geography, it can be warmer on some winter days but the mention of Florida only having a “wet season” and “dry season” insinuates it’s always warm year round in the entire state which is mostly true in southern Florida like Fort Lauderdale and Miami where my sister-in-law is from, but is not the case in the entire state. Trust me.

@@ChrisVincelli I grew up in Myrtle Beach and have lived in Wilmington, New Bern and Raleigh, NC so my experiences of living in these states are limited to those area. Although I love to explore new areas, and have seen a lot, visiting a place is usually not the same as living there. SC is more like NC and the FL panhandle. Southern Florida is way different in almost every way (weather, culture, etc). I think all have similar Southern hospitality, weather, etc. with slight differences. My sister-in-law from Fort Lauderdale has said it before and it seems true in many comments I’ve seen: when most people say Florida they really mean Miami/Fort Lauderdale. It’s just a completely different area. I could get down with moving to a place like that (with nearly warm weather year round) if they had that southern charm and hospitality that I grew up with. But SC is where I grew up and the charm and hospitality is a real thing. It matters a lot to me.

@Southern Hellstorm sorry to hear you’ve had such a bad experience here. sounds like you might be upset by a lot of political stuff. I am a conservative myself but we have never had any issues with the school system and we live in Raleigh. I think our governor is liberal but he has done a good job at trying to appease both sides. With schools, Rural areas may struggle with schools but they do in pretty much every state. Some states just have more rural areas than others. As far as winters go, see my comment above. You are gonna be cold a portion of the year in Florida unless you move to the southern tropical end. Anyone who thinks the entire state of Florida is some 75° tropical paradise year round will find themselves disappointed very quickly. Might not get snow (odds are obviously much less) but you still get cold. My brother has first hand accounts of this reality every winter living near Pensacola Beach for the past 4 years. If you move very south (tropical) then yes, you’ll get that warm weather (although just a few weeks ago it was in the low 40’s in Naples and Fort Lauderdale and iguanas were falling from the trees again). The biggest downside IMO (besides the dang iguanas running over the area) is the southern tropical area gets an even more intense humidity and heat several months out of the year. In the middle of winter, we all long for summer...until it hits and then we want fall 😂. So, I often remind myself that the heat is just as miserable as winter, but just in different ways. Florida is a state many people dream to move to because they think it’s always going to be like paradise. Sitting around on a beach drinking some tropical beverage. I’d venture to say that a lot of people have this idea that life will be better there but in the end, I’d say it’s a lot more about attitude than latitude (or longitude). Case in point: we just sold our home in coastal NC to some northern retirees who had been living in Daytona Beach, FL for several years. They gave us their reasons for leaving Florida but they had hard-to -please attitudes, and I think that made it hard for them regardless of where they lived. Reality soon set in that Florida wasn’t as amazing to them as they thought it was going to be. My point is that we can find the beauty in any place around us. It’s mainly about not finding fault in everything and truly asking yourself what makes you happy. Don’t get me wrong. I love Florida and love to visit my brother, but I’m content living right here for now. Do I wish the winters were warmer? Yes!! But do I also wish the summers here weren’t as unbearably hot and humid? Also yes!! 😂 Maybe one day we will move back to my home state of SC. But NC is gorgeous and I really love the southern charm and the ability to see our beautiful ocean and mountains. Lots of recreational activity here. And for anyone reading these comments on the fence about NC, my wife is from NC and has lived here all her 45 years. I have been in the Carolinas almost all my life and we have never experienced any extensive period of nasty, gray winters in central or coastal NC. Most of our winter days (January and February) get average day temps in the 40’s and 50’s. After that, I call March our transition month before summer hits. Then we have the fun of Christmas...some years in thick coats and others we have been in shorts. It’s not months and months and months of cold. I’d say it’s more like months and months of hot with a few short months of cold weather. Usually 1 snow fall a year (this year it was less than an inch and melted the next day), but I love it. It’s also not for everyone. Sorry that was so long. I just felt the need to defend my point. NC and FL are both great states. I’d be happy to live in either of them.

@Southern Hellstorm I just prefer to avoid generalizations about an entire state. Based on your comments one might read them and assume the entirety of NC is grey and cold while the all of FL is sunny and warm. Seems about as unfair as some of the other generalizations made in the video. And speaking of gray winters, my brother in Florida just told me the schools there are closed tomorrow because of a black ice warning. That might be because all of Florida isn’t tropical. Nor is it sunshine and roses all the time. Just like all of NC isn’t “cold” and “grey” every day in the winter. Plus, we do have lots of greenery here in the winter. The state is covered in evergreens (the loblolly pine is the state tree after all). It’s interesting to see how my experience in NC has been so VASTLY different than yours. Maybe it’s because of where you lived but I just haven’t seen as much gray as you. I do remember visiting Disney World in December 1997 and again in late October 2014.... when the water rides were all closed because it was too cold and some days all of us were in long sleeves and Mickey Mouse ponchos because of the cold, gloomy, rainy weather. I certainly have seen weeks of cold weather even when it’s suppose to be warm. The sunshine state probably gets more rain than most places I’ve lived. But what I can’t stand is when people make generalizations about these huge states and then have these ideas and make claims of how Florida is, when in reality, it is not that way in the entire state. Florida gets cold, gray and rainy too in most of the state...Unless you live in the tropical part. I hope you plan to move somewhere near Miami. Otherwise don’t throw away your cold weather clothes.

Ran across this comment and it made me laugh a little. We live in NC and it is the #1 state for snake bites in the nation. Specifically Wake County (including the capital Raleigh, where we live) is the #1 county in the nation for snake bites. We don’t see a lot of gators here in Raleigh but we did see quite a few when we lived in the coastal part of NC. They don’t bother people much. And we just make sure our pets and small kids know to stay away from the water’s edge.

@@jodybruce5097 I saw a baby copperhead once in my backyard. Other than that, We found a 3 foot long snake skin nearly intact in our flowerbed last year. I haven’t seen them other than that. They are there though. Rattlesnakes, water mocassins, etc. Lots of other critters in NC too that are not dangerous but love to leave their poop everywhere. Blue tailed skinks, lizards, tree frogs, and then there’s the dang mosquitos. I would think that Miami area would be worse though year round since it doesn’t get cold. We at least get a break from those things during the winter. Another thing southern Florida has that NC (or even northern Florida) is an amazing abundance of iguanas that are so invasive that they are constantly trying to figure out how to stop them. They destroy power lines etc. Just a nuisance. But that’s the price you pay to live in tropical areas. If you stay in subtropical areas from NC to northern Florida, you won’t see those dang dinosaurs roaming your yard 😂.

I have lived in SW FL for almost 4 years now. During the really hot months (may-oct) I run into black racer snakes every 2 weeks it seems. They look scary but are harmless and eat alot of pests. I am used to them now, like squirrels haha they are everywhere. Have yet to run into a poisonous snake. Have seen snakes at the beach and in my garage and lanai on multiple occasions. If you really don't like snakes, fl prob isn't for you. They are everywhere even had one slither over the back of my shoe standing in line at a public building with people everywhere. Alligators are everywhere as well, but are model citizens until you interfere with them (feeding them/swimming where they live). With all of this said, FL is way too damn hot, likely moving to NC. Don't underestimate the heat if you are thinking of moving to FL!

So I'm originally from suburbs of NY and have lived in central FL for 15 years. I was the same as you, terrified I would run into tons of spiders! I did see some recluse spiders once in awhile in my garage and saw a wolf spider once on my husband's car because he had parked in a woodsy area that day. With that being said, if you're in a well-established suburb of FL with little to no woods around, you'll just see some very small garden spiders or crab spiders which are small and harmless although still a bit creepy...but honestly, I saw more spiders in LI, NY in the summer, in comparison. Also, I think I've seen a spider or two inside the house, but nothing different from what you'd see up north. Now we are moving to NC with lots of woods behind our new home. There was a huge pile of logs behind our new home and the landscaper said "you better move that or you'll be making quite a home for the wolf spiders." Sooooo yeah...I'm trying not to think about it! I plan on putting a border around my house of peppermint oil which keeps them away.

Me and my wife live in florida and there is a lot of Arabic/muslims people in Florida. Many woman with hijabs for sure far and in between. There is a lot of different cultures mostly Hispanic but still diverse. Definitely not like NY. we visited North Carolina and wouldn't of expect to see any muslim people but it was my first time seeing any muslim woman wear the full veil over there face. Sorry I'm not sure what it is called. But even tho there are so many muslims in florida that was the first time every see a woman wear it in person. Hope that helps

But another reason is because of the geography that NC can offer. It can offer beaches because of it being on the east coast, but it can also offer these beautiful mountains.

Better learn to speak Spanish in Florida, especially South Florida. Some business's will not do business with you unless you do. Prepare for culture shock! Miami Beach is literally trash and continues to deteriorate with each extended month of unemployment. Crime there is outrageous and locals stay far away from it. Tourists haven’t caught on yet. The keys are all right, but you really have to go to the farthest key to get any sort of cultural experience. Anyways, the keys are too far and too expensive to visit often - for the average person. At least in NC if you drive three hours you have a completely different topography and experience. South Florida can be trashy and the people like that beach and booze lifestyle. If that’s not your thing, we’ll you better be an intellectual and cultivate some hobbies of your own. Miami is trashy and the people are not educated. Despite there being so many cultures, the city completely lacks culture and class. Whorish mentality and people. Floridians are true capitalists and will do anything for money. The labor/employment law is prehistoric. People put money before other things - like morals and ethical values. They had the pill Mills in the 70s and now all the ambulance chasers / hurricane chasers. Values are secondary to profits. NC is looking real nice 👍🏼 But I’m sure it has its downsides as well.
