Still figuring out if I wanna learn japanese or korean/where to live and this video has been really helpful! I still have some questions unanswered, e.g. cultural differences? My friend is japanese and she says the people are VERY reserved and it’s hard to integrate... did you feel like this? And does this apply to korea too?
@angelinajackson7684
@angelinajackson7684 4 жыл бұрын
1 year later but I think it’s still valid, in Japan it is very reserved and the people aren’t using to seeing other people who aren’t Japan. There are a lot of different customs there regarding manners and they can be described as ‘fake’ in a simple term. They don’t say what they think because most of them have grown up with the mindset with keeping the peace and not disturbing anyone. People usually keep to themselves. I not saying this as a bad thing but I think it’s important to say

They also have an issue with cultural progress because since they’re only around the same culture they don’t like making any changes

I’m learning Japanese at the moment and hoping to learn Korean soon. I still cant figure out which to live in, sounds like Japan are more shy and has natural views whereas Korea are more talkative and is more food based (i love spicy food😂). I feel i will go to Korea and visit Japan now and then. Does anyone know which one offers more job options? I’m pursuing to be a graphic designer or music producer so I’m not sure which would be the best one to go to.

South Koreans lived as a single people for thousands of years. So, there are still many people who make foreigners awkward when they go to the provinces. South Koreans are not as friendly as Japanese. Even the same Koreans aren't friendly to each other.. If you visit South Korea and people look cold, don't get it wrong. It's just a cultural difference. But if you have a problem, anyone from South Korea will help you.

I’m a Korean but I have lived almost all my life in America and even though I live at Korea Korean taxi drivers would take advantage because of my accent. I have to say Korean taxi’s always try to rip me off. Then again it’s the same in America. They’ll go super slow to run up the meters and will take highways even when you can beat the traffic going locally. Not sure how it is in Japan.

Japanese average salaries are higher than Korean average salaries which also explains why the living cost in Japan is higher. As for the comparison to the US, I can't say Japan is cheaper. It depends on what we are comparing and where.

@@kawtarrai9026 nah Japan is cheaper i I moving there soon I have 2 friends that live there and all there rent plus bills comes up to 700 dollars while my standard American apartment cost 1.2k dollars and I’m from New York when apartments be cost over 4k for a small little space so Japan and Korea are looking like the best living options I could save a lot of money even more if I lived in a rural area or suburban
@kawtarrai9026

@@OutcastYBJ Yes, that's why I said it depends on where you are in the US and Japan - the US is huge and living expenses/taxe rates, etc vary from state to state. Same applies to Japan - just going from Tokyo to Saitama for example makes a huge difference. If we are comparing NYC to Tokyo specifically, then NYC is more expensive. This is coming from a Tokyoite who also lived in the US. I hope you enjoy your stay in Japan! :)

Daegu is the type of city where it's not dauntingly large but still big enough that you're not gonna be bored of it. It's incredibly easy to navigate and the transport is very cheap. It has 2 subway lines and one monorail line which you can transfer between for free. To use the subways it costs 1400 won (around US$1) which you can use to navigate almost all of the major areas of Daegu.

For more detailed info on Korean/Japanese public transportation. Korean public transportation including taxis are either run by the government or subsidized by the government and tax payers so everyone can afford to get around. Japan on the other hand public transportation like subways, trains, buses and taxis are owned by different private companies making the prices more expensive.

I honestly don't understand why most people complain about Korean winter... I was born and raised in south Texas, lived in Korea for 18 months and it wasn't that cold. I don't recall it ever getting below 0 degrees Fahrenheit, so it was quite tolerable to me. 🤷

I have never been to South Korea before, but I watch Korean KZbinrs buying so much stuff that would be so expensive in Japan. It must be something to do with purchasing power parity or something. I have a plan to visit South Korea in march but Coronavirus is getting on my way. I want to shop for cheaper yet more stylish clothes there. I can eat flavorful, spicy dishes, too.
@Daylightfulness

Yes, be careful about the coronavirus. I wouldn't recommend traveling anyime soon, sadly. )= But probably by summer it'll be better. Yeah, I'm not sure why some things are more expensive in other countries! Good question!

8:48 I wonder what kind of research you did.... How could Japan tell South Korea "Taiyaki", which was a luxury food for Japanese in poverty, when the US military had air raids all over Japan, and all Japanese were facing food shortages?

Never compare Korean with Japanese. Korean is different from Japanese, in terms of face, body, character. Japanese have nothing to do with Korean. You can compare Chinese and Japanese for they are close in terms of face, body, cultures.

I stayed in Nagoya and Tokyo. I also went at a time where the dollar was weaker than the yen and often times you would lose money, but now Japan's yen is much weaker wand so I bet it's a lot cheaper whereas America has gone up in prices!
