Yes, Monaco has amongst the highest real estate prices in the world. There are some affordable housing programmes for locals. Many people live in France and Italy and commute to Monaco for work.

Close to 50,000 per day travel into Monaco from France and Italy to work. In fact, 70 % of the Police Force are French Nationals. Citizens by birth ONLY.... have access to a Government Housing program which brings their rent down to about 700 to 900 Euros per month. This film is well done. HOWEVER...do not be mislead by other films. The actual average income of all of those 50,000 people from France and Italy is a standard "Middle Class" income of about 2,500 to 3,000 Euros per month. They DO "go home at night". :) There are other neighborhoods in Monaco where listed rents are between 2,800 to 4,200 Euros per month, however, historically, foreigners usually have to pay three month's rent in advance. That is because WITHOUT seeking "residency", someone is allowed to stay only 90 days under the Schengen Agreement and then must apply for an extension. The "self sufficient" usually get an extension..but because they are foreigners, rent is again usually three months at a time, but not always. We hope this helps. :)

@@sanderrecommends Thank you for responding so kindly and quickly. :) What others also do not realize is that if someone states the formal intention of seeking "Residency" and GETS IT....THEY HAVE to live in Monaco at least 6 months of the year. They absolutely HAVE to be there. Most people do not realize just how "socially difficult" that can be ! :) :) I have know two people who have lived there. One was a man, then in his mid 60's. A fully retired American, but did not want to seek "Residency". Honestly, his assets were no where near what commonly exists there. He met a woman from Switzerland whose family had inconceivable wealth. He didn't give a -----.Nor did she. SHE knew all of her life it was "Grand Pa's" estate. She was highly educated and worked managing the family's portfolio. But she did not "care" about it. They got married. Keep in mind that when men and women are in their mid 60's or older....THEY DO NOT "Marry for money". And everyone knows that. But her "friends" damn near "wrote her off". Some of those people ARE that "judgmental". He outlived her. He told me that her nieces and nephews received the bulk of her estate and he inherited $ 5 million. The reality of it is, that - especially after 65, ALL OF IT is "Found Money" and pretty worthless simply because at 65, you can "drop" from "natural causes" anyway. :) :) The point is that he was never at a loss as to how shallow and socially hopeless so many of the people there are. The reassuring matter was he fully confessed that nearly every human being he met there who had "an honest job" or in business, "Made it the hard way", were people who are as good or better than everyone else. :) It was VERY reassuring to hear from him that those 50,000 daily workers, the hard working attorneys in private practice and yes.....real estate agents. :). really do the very best that they can. :) Thank you again for your kind reply. @@globalonemusic2381 Hi Anotine, Thank you for your detailed comment. That's all right. I was a Monaco resident for 5+ years until 2020. Honestly, I enjoyed life in Monaco, although there are many different people and weird stories. I wouldn't call Monaco an ideal place to live. In fact, there aren't any in the world. It has many temptations and many tragedies. But it's worth a try for those who dream of living there.
