Tip regarding showers at truck stops: don’t be shy to ask truck drivers if they have a spare shower to give you. I drove for 7 years and always had so many that I never used them all. (they get a free shower with each fuel purchase)

I don’t attend meetings at this point because I feel very solid in my sobriety and I don’t always have the time for more commitments but it is good to know that they’re out there in case I feel I need them! I remember attending meetings during the pandemic via zoom and I liked doing it that way.

Just found your channel tonight. So glad all was good. I drove truck for 14 years. I use to give people my free showers when I didn’t need them. Truckers get free showers when they get 50 gal. Of fuel and don’t always have time to get a shower at that time so they can build up. I was picked up in a tornado and dropped in Oklahoma 2009 in the truck. Thankfully was up right but did mess up my knees. I ended up having to retire and now can’t drive in bad storms I park so glad you parked. I’ve seen to many keep driving and wreck. I’ve had both knees replaced now but almost 70 yrs old now. But still love to travel, we are working on a mini bus so we can travel. Stay safe out there.

Hi Hannah, you wouldn't be near Pennsylvania would you? My mom and I have been going through years with an abusive man we are stuck with here due to the roof over our head. I gotta find Pennsylvania friends who have apartments/etc connections because we don't wanna go in a shelter of course. We also have a lot of stuff so they can't have that there as well. We need friends who are landlords or know them and those people can help disabled people get in and on our feet. :)

I don't know if you've heard this before, but if you are under a tornado watch/warning and it starts to hail, run for shelter. I've been through four small tornadoes and it always hails right before they come.

A tip for the future, when there is a tornado watch and the sky gets dark and it is windy it's best to be in a strong structure. A tornado warning is issued when a tornado is identified on radar or on the ground. Although not likely, you never know if your location will be the unlucky place of the first touch down. Keep an eye on the sky as well as news reports. Your home is very cozy. I think I will try making a shell jar too!

I was going to give another tip I noticed before tornadoes, and I’m not sure it happens all the time, but in the few I’ve seen, the tornado comes with nearly constant lightning and usually hail. If you were to fall asleep in your truck, you would surely be awakened by both. Also, keep a good bicycle helmet handy with you, it will protect your head in a tornado. I also carry an old bike with me and keep it in good working order, just in case my truck becomes disabled, or the roads are impassable. They even sell ones that fold up and are part hybrid. It will fit under your bed.

That looks like a really cozy setup! I am a field tech doing various kinds of tech repairs on the road, and I have to say that most Love's and TA (Travel Centers of America) have excellent showers, much like the one you showed. Some of them are just absolutely incredible, and I have to admit that after a particularly long day in the field, I have certainly gotten my 'washing up' part out of the way, and then just spent like 30 minutes just letting the hot water take my aches away. I've never had anyone mad at me about a time limit. Didn't even know there was one! :) I take my camp gear with me and sometimes I'll stay overnights at a KOA for fun, but most of the time I just overnight in the truck at a Love's or something. Everything you need!

Yes, truck driver get free showers when they pump so much gas. Most have excessive amounts and usually nice about giving them to people.

My god that is really thoughtful!! Over here in Australia it's nearly impossible to get a shower, I lived in my car with my 4 children and two friends for 2 months and we found one shower at Lismore NSW but there was nothing more then that most country towns looked empty. You have a good system that will provide for everyone like that. Good luck with your journey stay strong be happy were possible

Glad you are safe. I love how much you laugh/giggle even in a scary situation. We’ve been stuck in storms like that and even a tornado while in our RV. It can be extremely horrible. The best idea I ever saw for storing and organizing clothes was to use throw pillow cases with zippers and put clothes in them instead of pillow stuffing or foam forms. Gives the option of separating seasons and having more clothes available for weather changes like Parkas and winter gear. Can also store towels or other soft goods. Large zip lock bags will work for socks and undies and go inside the pillows too. Easier to get to instead of under bed.

I do kind of similar with sheets at home. I put sheets into a corresponding pillow case and then stack in the linen cupboard. Keeps them all together.

My son works for Loves Truck Centers. They are good places. If you want to go inside to feel comfortable, you can. In some Loves there is a driver's lounge you can go in watch tv or relax.
