I have always believed in "follow your gut". Years ago I was at a seasonal camp ground.. for over a month. There were always at least a few people around... and I felt fine. However, near the end of the season I noted there were less & less people. One day, for no (apparent) reason, I felt a strong sense of Panic. It seemed so... silly, and yet.. There it was. So I packed up fast and drove away. To this day I have NO IDEA where that feeling even came from... snd I never had it again. It was just plain eerie. I just KNEW I had to get out of there. Always better to be safe than sorry.

I've done a fair amount of traveling and stayed at many rest stops, Walmart parking lots and other places. I'm not a vanlifer but sleeping in my vehicle is so much cheaper than a motel. Three years ago I had a tiny house built on wheels and it took me several months and many state visits to find a place to park it. I'm retired and wanted peace and solitude. The area I chose is a seasonal lake community where I spend the winter completely alone. I do have a neighbor fairly close who checks on me but I like the quiet. After raising 5 children on my own I wanted my distance but I'm still very much in touch with everyone and within driving distance. I am a new subscriber and so far I'm enjoying your content. Yours is not the only channel I watch. Enjoy your travels.

Hello from New Zealand 👋😁 I've just started watching your journey 🦋 I lived in my car a couple of years ago and learnt to always trust my gut.. I always used to park up in secluded places untill one night when I'd just got to my quiet spot that a lady told me about.. I was still sitting in the driver's seat and I remember thinking I must let my eyes adjust so I could be aware of my surroundings. I remember looking in my rear view mirror so I could make out the country road behind me .. next minute my heart fricken dropped. I could see the shape of someone standing behind my car. I actually nearly shat myself lol. I started that car so fast and threw it in reverse and floored it.. I saw him take off running. I drove like a maniac to get outa there. After that I always backed into spaces. Lesson learned. I look forward to following you 🦋

I've been living in my little rv for 3 years now and as a introverted person I prefer isolated spot even at night. Go ahead girl you are doing well 💖

Another good one! I am 77 and often make long trips across country by myself, hubby of half a century, doesn’t like to go as much so I kiss him bye & say when you see the whites of my eyes you’ll know I’m home! He knows I need space to refresh my spirit and is all good with it. I have a van, not a nice camper home like yours, but have created my own little sanctuary with a power station, some 12 volt appliances, propane burner cooktop, battery fans, comfy bed I made by removing a middle seat and a potty. Fun adventures on the go! I am with you, follow your gut always, I know I have likely spooked myself unnecessarily but I rest better once I move. I have often stayed across from 24 hr convenience stores, easy to get someone’s attention if needed. Church parking lots, but those are more desolate like the museum. Once I stayed in a police station parking lot, small town, I went in and told them I was alone & simply got too tired to continue safely, they were very gracious and said they were glad I stopped! Motel parking lots, as previously mentioned, at the larger nice mid price ones I have even gone in the lobby, from a side door, to use the rest room, said hi to the people at the desk as I passed & purchased from vending machines, no one has ever questioned my presence. To me the key is being near people so can can attract attention if needed. Have an alarm that will make so much noise it can’t be ignored and one protection item I rarely hear mentioned, bear spray!! If it will stop a bear it will stop a human or two! Thanks for sharing things you have learned. I throughly enjoy your peaceful videos and always look forward to them. Blessings

Jill, thanks for the compliment! I let fear stop me when I was younger, no more. Just have a plan, and an alternate, move with purpose so you never appear weak and don’t mention traveling alone. Grab your bear spray and GO! Happy travels & Blessings to you

Its always good to follow your gut feeling. Another woman living in her van (Story Chasing) talked about places to boondock and one place that I found pretty interesting was to park in a motel parking lot! Seems like good advice since there are usually always people around, the parking lots are usually well lit and lots of motels are right off the highway, so no need to go out of your way. The only thing she said to watch out for was whether the motel had parking tags for its guest--which you can see when you drive through the lot and look at the cars. But in reality, I don't think most mid-priced motels use parking stickers.
@nobodyuknow65852 жыл бұрын
I would not advise a hotel parking lot. I used to work at one and we monitored the parking lots with cameras, had a security guard and a maintenance man that would walk the grounds. Not all of them are like that I am sure, but we kept a close eye on the people that were supposed to be there and each of the office staff would go over their shift with the next person that would come on duty, so we were very aware of what all went on there. If you were not supposed to be there, we got you off the property either by asking or by calling the law in. It made us no difference how you left, as long as you did. So, that may not be a pleasant experience for you, if you stay at a hotel like we were.

LOVE your KZbin. Glad you took our advice on the not blocking your way to the driver seat. I am curious, did the website for the museum say they allow overnight parking or this was a tip you found online? I find it rare for museums to encourage overnight parking. I have had to do the same thing you did, LEAVE when my spidey sense said things were strange. I dont care who your are, man, woman, non binary person or Wonder Woman, being isolated in a parking lot is NEVER safe. Youre making great choices and your cooking is always on point! BLESS!

Few things we did to make my GF feel safer. 1. Placed window alarms (google battery-powered window alarms) on each door. we turn these on each night. They are so loud that everyone will hear them within a city block. 2. Simple hook latch down low on the interior of the doors (similar to the back door), even if something pops the door lock. No way they can break the chain hook we installed. 3. Taser Pulse (need I say more)
