This place used to be really bad. I got sober in a half way house on republic street called Joseph House. That place saved my life. I'm glad it's much better now.

I'll soon be selling a house that is in Mt. Auburn, just up the hill from Over the Rhine. We've already been getting lots of offers and we don't even have the house on the market yet. It has amazing views of downtown Cincinnati, the Ohio River, and Covington, KY. Cincinnati is a beautiful city.

I'm from Chicago and currently live in SF (and have been to Cincinnati a couple times as a child so I kinda have a very limited/sugar coated memory of what the city was like after revitalization from a tourist perspective) and seeing videos of Cincinnati randomly pop in my feed lately makes me think that you people have got at most 5 years tops (I mean it, like absolute max if you're lucky) before you start to make videos about how you miss the charming and under the radar cool vibes you used to get here in your city because it looks like the most NEXT IN LINE COOL CITY I can think of right now. I've seen how it devours and chews up important parts of big cities like I've seen in Chicago and San Francisco, and also the money and clout it leaves behind for a city to reinvent itself in exciting ways, but not without a huge expense that your city's culture and integrity will be faced with. Basically, get ready for the ride, because there's no way Cincinnati is gonna stay a secret any longer now that everyone is out of quarantine and looking for that new undiscovered gem. I already know I'll be coming soon for a visit, I'm intrigued by the urban stairways and paths and want to do my own tour of the biggest/longest ones I can find because I'm weird like that. So expect there will be others coming for their own reasons and they will bring their blogging equipment too, if this hasn't all probably started already. It's started. Be careful what you wished for.

Looks like a great neighborhood. We live in a similar neighborhood just outside downtown charlotte. Urban entertainment district. Walkable, bikeable. But cincy has such amazing architecture that I’m a little jealous. I’m also glad to hear y’all built a streetcar. That takes real commitment to transit, and you’ll always have naysayers who complain about anything non car focused. Great vid. Thanks for highlighting such a cool part of your city. I want to come visit for a weekend one day.
@TeamSztanyo3 жыл бұрын
Definitely come visit! ... You're absolutely right about naysayers. There were arguments to be made for both sides. They recently made the streetcar free to ride to boost ridership and try to just get revenue from advertisers. Ultimately, it makes the most sense if it's connected to Uptown Cincy by the University and Hospitals (lots of employees), but for now, it's a nice way to enjoy downtown as a resident or visitor.

I lived in Corryville, Clifton and such for years but regularly went to the Warehouse, delivered pizza downtown, walked and bussed through parts of OTR. This has heavily been gentrified over the last 20 years for sure. I can't imagine the cost of living in OTR now compared to back then.

@TeamSztanyo3 жыл бұрын
You might not be able to find something right in the heart of OTR for that. But, check out Clifton Heights or Pendleton, and you could probably find something in your budget. Facebook Marketplace is actually a decent place to find rentals in the area.

There is a lot more work that needs to be done in OTR. I lived done there in the early 90’s. Still a lot of drugs down there near Race and Green st. Vine and Libery st. A lot of dilapidated buildings need rebab north of Liberty street. BTW the street car is useless and millions of taxpayers money was wasted on that project. Because of the street car tracks the famous October festival was moved from the fountain square. Very disappointed about that action.

Where do the poor people who used to live there live now? Those who can't afford the rents and prices st the breweries and restaurants?
@atiyarise41312 жыл бұрын
@Brenda Payne, The people have been displaced and forced to other parts of the city, county, or out of the city/state all together. Example - The West side (price hill, west wood etc). Northern part of Hamilton County (Colerain and etc), Out of city limits, KY, Shelters, or on the streets.

when I lived there, I enjoyed Findlay Market, Washington Park, and all of the downtown events and restaurants. That being said, it wasn't (and still isn't) a safe place to live. I rarely carried cash but always carried mace/pepper spray. Things were stolen; car broken into; and caught two people in a compromising position out my kitchen window (ewwww). So if you are set on living in zip code 45202, be safe. Arm yourself, get a watch dog, a high tech security system, and good insurance.

To the neighborhood, maybe. But how about the tons of people that couldn't do it and had to be displaced elsewhere? Fuck them?
@YB003 жыл бұрын
@@Susieque963 But you are not the only side of this story. Those who used to live there are not less worthy of safety and good neighborhood than you are. The money and effort put in displacing them should've been invested in rescuing them and their neighborhood from crime, drugs, and poverty. Gentrification only moves the problem elsewhere - to a place where the public eye can't see them, or perhaps chooses not to see them.
@YB003 жыл бұрын
@@Susieque963 You're not even listening. I am not advocating for keeping neighborhoods dangerous; that's obviously no good for anybody.
