Nice video, I'm Raleigh born and raised and it was interesting to see this from newcomer's point of view. If you love North Hills, try Capital Grille if you haven't already. Top notch restaurant. The heat truly comes in during June-September. It's the humidity that hurts. Just wait till you have a day where it's 99 degrees and 90% humidity. Raleigh also does a restaurant week every year, where a bunch of different restaurants each make a special menu for that week. It's a nice introduction to many of the restaurants in the area.

We just bought a second home in Morrisville in August 2020 smack in the middle of covid. We still own a condo in downtown Boston but we love the greater Raleigh area ad we were donw there form January to mid May. And FYI, try MC's in Cary - gives any sushi restaurant in NY a run for its money. Back down there later on this year and can't wait to try out some of your tips and see Raleigh in non covid!

We bought a home in the new area called Wendell Falls in Wendell about 15 miles from Raleigh. It is a gorgeous planned community with homes for 260.000 to 800.000 all mixed so very diverse. New build is the way to go here.

Coffee-wise, I definitely recommend trying Sosta in downtown Raleigh. If you’re near Crabtree, try Gloria jean’s. If you’re in the cary area, I HIGHLY recommend La Farm Cafe. La Farm is AMAZING. Food-wise, try Beasley’s Chicken and Honey, or Irregardless, or Wy Hill, or Capital Grill, or Brewery Bavana. There are a ton of places in you hit Moore square in downtown

NC is like Texas but 10-20 years behind (meaning population density, infrastructure, etc.) It will get there but pacing is much more slower and manageable. Very diverse economy. Plus it has two things TX lacks, good ocean and good mountains. The trees are no joke!

Raleigh really kind of sucks. too much closeted human trafficking.....i have read articles saying NC is in the top ten states for human trafficking. Now around RTP there are plenty of large corporations that im sure could easily be connected to guys like Jeffery Epstein. I unfortunately even know the name of the local version of Jeffery Epstein. Unfortunately, a lot of the above average coffee shops are super spread out in the triangle so you have to drive at least 15 minutes to get to them. However, some of my top Coffee shops in the triangle are: -Cultivate, Fuquay Varina -Fount, Morrisville -Bean Traders, Durham -Joe Van Gogh, Durham Hope you find this useful for your next weekend coffee run!

Raleigh is only part of the story. The Triangle as a whole is what makes the area so cool. Durham and Chapel Hill are both amazing as are some of the suburbs like Cary and Hillsborough. You didn't even touch on the world class universities -- Duke, UNC Chapel Hill, NC State -- that also makes this area unique and different from Austin. Also, there are awesome restaurants in Raleigh and the entire Triangle and it has totally developed a foodie culture with our renowned celebrity chefs and all the transplants moving in from bigger cities. And depending on where in the Triangle you live, including parts of Raleigh, you're actually less than 3 hours to mountains. Boone and Blowing Rock are closer than Asheville and are amazing mountain towns. You're right that Raleigh is more family-oriented than Austin but that's slowly changing to be more balanced -- which in my opinion is a good thing.

Great comparison. I live in Austin but Im lookin to move somewhere where the climate is a bit cooler because I have enough of the heat. There is not enough rain here. It literally doesnt rain at all in the summer while 3 hours away in Houston they have showers all the time. Ive heard that NC is up and coming and the climate seems perfect. Actually there are some excellent locally-owned coffee houses in Raleigh. Among my favorites are Cup a Joe's (the one on Hillsborough Street - there are 2 locations) and The Third Place (on Glenwood Ave). Both are anti-Starbucks temples...

Born and raised in Raleigh then lived in Dallas and Austin TX. relocating to Greenville SC. Austin has a lot going for it but... it's very expensive! Raleigh is a lot cheaper both renting and home ownership. Austin is very crowded and the road system is struggling to keep up. Raleigh has a much more diverse economic base with medical, education, bio pharma, and tech along with government. Austin is tech, government and more tech and its wrecking the city. a lot of homeless and petty crime. RDU is very diverse also. Austin has a nice downtown and the hills are great. but proximity to mountains and beach from Raleigh is hard to beat.

I can tell you miss Austin lol. I have lived in 3 states, California, Arizona and Colorado. One thing I have learned about myself is cold weather is NOT for me. Once I leave Colorado, I will never live anywhere again where the weather cannot accommodate Palm Trees. If it's not warm enough for palm trees to grow, it's too cold for me. I'd take the hottest summer in Phoenix, over anybody's cold, icy, snowy weather. Sorry I know I'm rambling a bit about my hate for cold weather lol. I actually like North Carolina, it's a beautiful state, and Torchy's is the bomb too by the way. Glad you got one!

Hey I am a senior in highschool and I am from Raleigh. I highly recommend just checking out downtown. A great coffee shop downtown is 42 and Laurence (lots of unique options) and a good restaurant option is beasley’s chicken and homey if you are looking for a bit to eat. I hope you love the city!

I strongly reccomend 02 fitness. They have gyms all throughout the city and all are different so you get different experiences . I was NOT a fan of fitness connection

Its kinda cool how other people are like and their reaction to my city been here my entire life. Some of the roads you were driving on I knew very very well. Recommend My Way Tavern in holly springs one of my favorite bars/taverns. Also Cant wait for 540 to be finished it ends right near my area so cant wait till it to be finished should be finished around 2025 and they started work on 540 in 2007 so its been a long project.

Sir Walter Raleigh was a privateer for Queen Elizabeth I. He founded the first attempted English settlement in the New world in the 1580's. The colony was on Roanoke Island at the outer banks. This was the lost colony because after England survived the Spanish armada the colonist had disappeared. Take a ride down US64 east and go to the outer banks, you will love them.

How does the summer compare in both locations? How many months of serious heat is there in Austin vs Raleigh? Considering both locations but I heard Texas is hot literally half the year and idk if I can do that.

Cary is excellent, best bang for your buck right now is Garner, its just south of Downtown (I live near Garner city hall and can be in downtown raleigh in about 5 or 6 minutes easy) and the housing is exploding right now, but its the last of the immediately adjacent suberbs to have that price explosion because everyone in garner is like 80 and have lived in their houses for decades, so nothing ever came on the market until the last couple years, but as those people are dying, the houses are coming up more and more and its blowing up. you'll still pay like 30% less than for Cary and in a year or so your house will be the same price as one in Cary is today.

You should consider Raleigh before Austin. Austin is too expensive, overcrowded, high cost of living, low paying jobs for the increase cost of living unless you’re in upper position of tech companies, and rude drivers and people overall. You will be better off moving to Raleigh which is much better in terms of less traffic, better paying jobs, friendlier people, and decent cost of living. PLEASE don’t choose Austin, Tx as a place to move!

@@eugenetown16 we ended up in Raleigh after I saw what was going on in Austin. We go in before Raleigh became the most competative market in the nation. I still keep an eye on the market and it is insane. I would tell others to maybe consider other markets right now.

My husband and I just moved here from ATX and your points are spot on! The craft beer scene here is also great. My fav is Ponysaurus in Durham. For the Lady Bird Lake lovers, the 100+ miles of connected Greenways in Raleigh is where it's at! Our biggest culture-shock was the massive sandwich culture here compared to ATX. You trade amazing tacos for awesome delis, but I'm so so so happy Torchy's is here now! Can we please get an HEB next?!

I hope Raleigh don’t becomes overcrowded and expensive place to live like Austin is now. I also hope the jobs for an average person in Raleigh pays enough for the cost of living in Raleigh unlike Austin that pays average person low wages for the astronomical cost of living. Raleigh seems like a nice quiet place to live.
