I'm from North Carolina and moved from Charlotte to Dallas. No state tax in Texas but you will pay way more for auto insurance and homeowners insurance. The winter temps here in Dallas are about the same but it's usually windy in winter so it seems colder here. The summer is hotter but there's less humidity, so summer is a wash.The drivers are much more aggressive here in DFW, more speeding and very little traffic enforcement on major roads. I love both cities.

I’m thinking about making the same move. I’m definitely going to miss the nature part here in charlotte

In Texas you pay $9000 as property tax for a $450000 house, the highest in the USA.

I have lived in Dallas for the last 30 years, but we are very seriously considering retiring in Charlotte, North Carolina next year. From my research, the major cities in Texas are much, much larger. The major Texas cities have representative franchises in all professional sports leagues and most minor leagues, F1 racing, PGA headquarters, etc. Every major concert or event generally goes through. DFW has direct flights to almost anywhere in the world (not just the country) and Love Field would be a nice airport for most cities by itself. There are also numerous fine dining options and an unbelievable amount of retail and most any amenity you could imagine. There are also some really nice museums, etc. However, since we have lived here DFW has increased in population from around the size of the current Charlotte metro population to 8million+ today. I actually like a major city - my husband and I are "outdoor urban" types though and mountain biking is very important to us as well as disc golf, pickleball, hiking, kayaking, surfing, climbing, etc. (and while Dallas actually has decent mountain biking because of a very active local organization and good disc golfing), Charlotte should be better in every regard for our outdoor activities and the ability to travel a couple of hours for world class outdoor activities. I also love, love, love a green environment. We are visiting in a few weeks to check everything out. We want to confirm that the city will offer enough and the accessibility and outdoor opportunities put it over the top. We really like Dallas, but are looking for a more temperate summer (even with humidity) with similar mild winters. The property taxes in Texas are also no joke. We seriously considered Denver, but don't want to live with that amount of snow and we seriously considered Seattle, but Charlotte has a much better cost of living and looks to be cleaner. Thanks for your informative videos!

You've done an amazing analysis and all are spot on. I love the outdoor living and adventuring here. the Lake (surfing), White Water Center, Numerous parks etc :) Be sure to give me a call when you make the decision to move (or while you are here if you need help :) )

How about those NYers deciding to move to NC or TX. What should we look for?
@livingincharlottenorthcarolina3 ай бұрын
Meaning as a north carolinian what should you look for? or more what should you expect moving from there? Honestly, people are super nice here that is the biggest thing. Houses are NOT on top of one another (unless you buy new construction under $700k). You have more tolorable seasons. We can truly do outdoor activities 3 to 4 seasons out of the year. Winter is the most unfavorable, but our average highs are 55, so still doable to be outside. We ahve beautiful spring, and fall. Summer... you wont die like in TX.. we don't get 120 degree days consistently. While we do have huidity, its more similar to a NY humid. And we are in the 90s as a high. Many people have pools or the community has a pool, and you can use it from April through September becasue it stays warm out. Housing and living costs are way lower than NY and even TX. We are less populated and urban sprawl is less. We are smaller than Dallas with better job opportunities. In a nutshell.... paradise :)

What about the difference in prices? Cost of living, houvesse, etc.
@livingincharlottenorthcarolina7 ай бұрын
From what I have seen it is very much location specific. EX: Dallas vs Charlotte, charlotte has lower cost of living, lower housing prices (with bigger lots and bigger homes) and income levels are about the same. So, in a nutshell, Charlotte has a bit better all around living. I will add less traffic and lower temps but not enough to snow ;)

Great video. born and raised in Miami came here because of my job. I wanted to go to DFW but there weren’t spots open. I don’t see the hype about CLT. State taxes, having to pay taxes in a car that is paid for, car inspections, the housing market is growing a lot because a lot of people are moving in. houses and apartments, townhouses are made with 4x4 and plywood. I live in an apartment now and you can hear absolutely everything!!!! I mean everything! Also please look at the crime rates here in CLT. Yes, uptown is nice but that’s about it. What I don’t understand is that you are paying for a new house or a townhouse about 380 to 400k plus. that’s about a 2800-3500 mortgage payment And the job market is not so good either. And for those that are moving in with KIDS get ready day care here is about $280 PLUS a week here, 280 being the cheapest and they don't hold them for long either. My coworker pays 320 a week drop off time is 9 pick up time is 1. Office jobs are basically 8 to 5. My wife was a manager at an OBGYN office in Miami. We came here thinking she was going to get a nice pay raise not even close. Offices were telling her she was overqualified. the highest offer was 23 dollars an hour doesn’t even cover daycare costs so she had to stay home. I take Highway 85 to work from exit 33-45 is not a pretty site. Huntersville and Mallard Creek, concord are nicer. I have heard South CLT is nice. There are a lot of rough areas than prettier ones. I live in Concord because as per my research, concord has the best schools in the state. great video though. !

There are a lot of differences in areas. While it isn't for everyone, most people find CHarlotte to have the best of all worlds along with affordability. There are a LOT of jobs here in various markets but it all depends on your industry. From an affordability standpoint we have lower taxes, insurance and other items than other states and a good education syste. Again it depends on the area you are in and there are some not great pockets, but that is with any city. I do appreciate your experience :) Ty for watching!!

It actually snows way more in Raleigh than Charlotte. I say way more as in Raleigh averages a whopping 7” a year lol.
@livingincharlottenorthcarolina Жыл бұрын
haha isn't that funny. Technically Raleigh sits North of Charlotte. Here in Charlotte we laugh because usually if you are south of I-85, your chances of snow drop significantly

As a native Texan and outdoor enthusiast, I am so over the constant character assassination (LOL). Let’s get real for a second-I’ve lived in North Carolina and pretty much all over Texas, and I know firsthand that New York State doesn’t even come close to the geographical wonders or natural beauty tht Texas boasts.So of course North Carolina, Would seem alot prettier in comparison to NY state,Cuz Surely, it’s got some hilly, lush areas, and mountains here and there, But what it doesn’t have is a Tx Hill Country, Big Bend, Satan’s Canyon, Pedernales Falls, Palo Duro (aka the Grand Canyon of Texas), Vanderpool, Willow City Loop, Enchanted Rock, Jacob’s Well, Garner State Park, Hamilton Pool Preserve, or Lost Maples State Natural Area. Oh, and let’s not forget-North Carolina doesn’t have any natural blue lagoons. Whereas Texas? Is full of them. Not to mention our gorgeous pristine, spring-fed rivers, lakes, and watering holes like the Devil’s River, Frio River, Barton Springs, Canyon Lake, Comal River, and Balmorhea State Park. And then, the BBQ debate. Sure, I get it-BBQ is basically North Carolina’s claim to fame, since… you all aren’t really known for anything else,But let’s be real: Texas doesn’t just have BBQ and Tex-Mex. No, we’ve got a global culinary scene, starting with Vietnamese, Vietnamese-Cajun, Caribbean, Jamaican, African, Ethiopian, Honduran, Salvadoran, Cuban, Samoan, Venezuelan, Argentinian, Persian, Irish, British… The list goes on and on. Texas is the second most diverse state in the country, second only to California, and Houston? It’s the most diverse city in the entire country. So yeah, North Carolina might be charming in its own way, but it’s got nothing on Texas in pretty much every category. But Keep trying though!!!

I love your comment and LOVE that you love Texas. I am a fan of Texas, it is my #3 of my favorite states :) I would say NC has ALL of these things with just a few tweaks. But if you've never experienced the Smokey Mountains, you HAVE to. Oldest mountain range in the world and a Temperate rain forest. Thank you for watching :)
