I moved to Sacramento nearly 13 years ago from the Deep South and it seems like housing has always been Oakland/East Bay being a two-thirds the price of San Francisco/Peninsula/the Valley and Sacramento Area one-third. So a $1.5M house in SF is like $1M in Oakland and $500K in the Sac area.

You abut summed it up. But, Sacramento has gotten pretty pricey in the last 10 years or so. Definitely not the "bargain" it once was! I like Sac!

I'm from England and I have visited San Francisco - As well as San Francisco I also visited Oakland, San Mateo, Berkeley, Daly City, Pacifica and Marin County - didn't get as far south as San Jose - San Francisco and Oakland was worth the visit - Not quite as sprawling as Los Angeles (Although I did enjoy my trip to Los Angeles the year before) -- The SF Bay Area is a very nice part of the USA -- Other parts of the US I would love to see are Hawaii, Miami, New Orleans and Las Vegas/Reno

Sounds like NYC prices. They have million dollar apartments in Harlem which was rougher back then. Now it is gentrified so it is expensive. That sounds like what happened out there.Plus, you got the tech industry so that drives up rent prices, too.

Born in and raised the East Bay even though only minutes apart they are two different worlds even the gentrification is different/affected the cities differently That being said if I could afford certain parts of SF I’d rather live there and I like cooler climates

Oakland has a big homeless drug infested population under the freeways, very trash infested, high crime, high rents and unsafe streets at night, and homes are out of sight and very old.

Without questions, both SF and Oakland have their challenges ... like all cities. I hope you are living somewhere you enjoy.

Like most cities, it has its challenging areas and its spectacular areas. You shouldn’t generalize or stereotype.

Need to update your video . Crime rate in Oakland has dramatically increased, especially violent crimes including in the”better neighborhoods”. Oakland city council just approved $10 million for OPD. Oakland schools are some of the worst in the state if not the country. Oakland has outrageously high property taxes and transfer taxes neighboring cites do not have. Your chances of being a violent crime victim in Oakland is 1 in 13. That is 4 times the national average. As nice as Oakland could be, violent crime, horrible schools, rioting continues to make Oakland undesirable. I have friends who refuse to come to Oakland because of the high crime rate all parts of the city. Forget goi;g to one of Oakland’s parks, your car will get broken into even if they take nothing. For decades people have been saying Oakland is about to get better, and they are still saying it. Saying it over and over does’t make it happen. and let’s not forget the enormous homeless population Oakland has. Move to Oakland and your tax dollar will not be spent on improving the city, it will go to deal with the homeless and OPD to maybe reduce the crime rate slightly.

That picture of the Bay Bridge on the thumbnail of the video is not Oakland. That is not Oakland on the thumbnail. I have the best KZbin channel.

Actually, the bridge on the left IS part of the Oakland-San Francisco Bay Bridge.
