Spot on assessment. I've lived here two years now. The location is great. San Marcos has great things to do on its own, but the proximity allows short trips to either Austin or San Antonio to enjoy all of their amenities as well. The cons enumerated are real and accurate, but don't really apply to me because I'm in a nicer area of town and my kids are already out of school.

I lived in both San Marcos and Austin for 2 years. I wouldn’t call San Marcos a mini Austin… not yet at least. San Marcos feels more like a college town than anything. When you go to all the parks and downtown San Marcos, it is mostly college aged students while the rest are mostly Latino families since San Marcos is largely a Latino community. As for small town feel, San Marcos still feels like a small town, not so much traffic, lots of fun activities around you, and old historic heritage. Just stay away from I-35. As a recent graduate from Texas State University, I would recommend the school and town for everyone, and not just the party crowd.

Im planning a trip to San Marcos TX next month....do taxis take people from Austin International Airport to San Marcos ?....or is it too far?

It shouldnt be too far, though at that distance I would probably rent a car at the airport or use Toro

I went swimming at Rio Vista Park from the University, to the bus stop.. and I'm kind of sick. Have you heard about the water making people sick? I'm definitely a bit worried. There was a lot of people out there.

The water from the San Marcos River comes straight out of the ground within the city limits. It's easily one of the cleanest bodies of water in Texas.
