Mor Acro at the Ljubljana Slovenia souk to see what 200 Moroccan Dirham can get you as we explore the cost of living in Europe. We cannot get a direct comparison, considering the Agadir regional markets were more rural, compared to the culture and financial capital of Slovenia. This video is for entertainment only, of course there are more factors that go into cost of living. The 20 euro challenge is relevant to us as our work is online and we like to eat fruit and fresh produce. The surprises at the European market are vending machines for apple juice, eggs, milk and yogurt. We buy apricots, butternut squash, an heirloom tomato, figs, cherries, blueberries, and some kale and jalapeño plants. Afterwards we buy some flowers for Andreja's moms birthday. We miss the days of the Aourir souk, when for 20 euros you can get too much to carrie if you are purchasing your staples such as onions and potatoes. Although the fruit was of high quality, it is often produced internationally, such as the mandarins which were four euro and produced in Egypt. We miss our Moroccan produce, but it lives on in our bodies and the body of the coming baby.

Market places like this in central Ljubljana are considered almost like "luxury" food. Usually people go to supermarkets for vegetables etc. Maybe in Morocco the market places are more common for every day use...

@lydia5232
@lydia5232 Жыл бұрын
There are people who regularly shop at the market because: they are e.g. vegans, vegetarians, they want exclusively organic, etc. or the elderly who do not trust supermarkets. The dresses at the market are of surprisingly good quality, you have the option of returning and if you don't get your size in the store, you are guaranteed to get it at the market. Many seamstresses sell their products and, if necessary, adjust the purchased dress or pants for you. I myself don't often buy at the market, the only exception is sauerkraut or sauerturnip, because you can try it, which you can't do in the store. Local farmers mostly sell their own food, which is why it is also more expensive, and some sellers sell imported food, like the gentleman with tangerines. The younger generation doesn't remember, but before the advent of modern supermarkets, we all mainly bought vegetables and fruits at the market.

Nice footage. Slovenian language seems to be easy to remember, so far I learned Al-Goulash, Limonska is lemon roots, Mleko/Milk, Voda (not Vodka) means water, or as Kevin would call it Baddle of wadder, instead of the British of Bo'El'Oh' Woo-Ah or the French Beutel of wateur. :p . On a serious note, for 5 € , the figs look awesome. Up here, they cost 26 €/Kg, and they are small, old and semi-dry. I always remind myself that I am not in Kansas anymore. * sigh *

I read most of the comments here and I agree about the outrageous prices of the of fruits and vegetables, BUT, as a Moroccan myself I'd like to point out to my fellow Moroccans that we shouldn't be comparing the cost of living between Slovenia ( Esp. Ljubljana ) and Morocco !!! According to Wikipedia the most typical yearly salary in Slovenia is $ 27,000 whereas in Morocco is $ 7000. I've never been to Slovenia, but I'm quite sure the prices are way lower than that outside the capital Ljubljana !!

Yes, we would have to compare to Rabat or Casablanca.....Still prices here are 10x, sometimes more for items, put that on the typical salary and you are eating good, healthy, fruits and vegetables in Morocco with greater ease. Simple comparison of tomatoes, onions, sweet potatoes, etc...still more buying power for these cornerstones of a healthy and tasty life.

It is up to the importer to chose the supplier. Moroccan exporters ship their produce to anybody who makes an order.
@briscomadani5018
@briscomadani5018 3 жыл бұрын
@@wilsonkorisawa7026Yes it is true the customer is king, but there is such thing as prospecting etc. that's how you get the sales; otherwise suppliers wait for ages and that's valid in all fields. If the egyptians can sell their mandarines there, and I happen to know that they are of lesser quality than Moroccan citrus, then surely this is a country we should be prospecting to sell into, if we have not already. Anyway, thanks for your feedback and take care. bye
@wilsonkorisawa7026
@wilsonkorisawa7026 3 жыл бұрын
@@briscomadani5018 It has nothing to do with the client being the king. This is just the worldwide and common procedure used by all countries for importing any goods. To make it more simple, suppose that you are a Moroccan trader selling tomatoes around the world. You do not load a ship with containers and start cruising around the planet looking for a buyer ~you can do that if you sell doughnuts at the beach :)~...What you do instead is expose yourself to the market (there are web markets for whole suppliers), and send "e-brochures" to all retailers. If a retailer (let's say Carrefour in Paris) is interested in your tomatoes, the sales manager would contact you, then make the order, and sign the purchasing contract, which includes the shipping costs, and other legal documents. In Europe you can find oranges mainly from Spain, Israel, Morocco, Egypt, Greece and even Peru.. The same rule applies, the retailers compares the overall costs, distance, punctuality etc...and chooses what suits him/her.
