Living Life 2022 Neah Bay Halibut and Bottom Fishing

After being closed for two years, we got the call from Big Michael to reserve our boat slip at Neah Bay. We go to Neah to target Halibut and bottom (rock) fish. Black Bass is one of our favorites to make fish tacos. We did well with the bottom fish, but only caught two small halibut due to terrible offshore weather and wave conditions. I fished with three of my buddies on Silver Linings, as thirty foot aluminum boat.

You need to plan a trip to Anchorage, then drive to Seward, Alaska. The Sockeye salmon run early June. The Kings run later Jun. The Silvers and pinks run early July. It depends on the year. You will pack your freezer with your catch. You can take in some Halibut, big Lings, big Rock Fish. That will never disappoint!

I’ve fished a lot out of Depoe Bay, Oregon. I have been out of Ilwaco once. I’ve been out of Seward a couple times. I enjoy hunting lings and halibut.

Are you catching any size out of Oregon? I ask because I fish the Columbia River and have been asked to fish the bay.

The silvers probably avg 12-15 lbs. If you get into chinook, it depends on where. Around the Wilson and Trask rivers, you can get into some 40-60 lb Chinook. I’ve never really heard of that large on the Columbia. It’s probably 25 lb avg on the Columbia. South coast, around Brookings, Chetco River, those Chinook can get big.

I mighta bumped into you just off of Point Dalco last summer in late July or early August; you would have been fishing for greenling. I was in a yellow kayak. If that was you.... I hope you got your greenling :)

Honestly, I don't remember; but I do know that I love kayak fishing. I go the Eastern Washington and do a lot of kokanee, trout and walleye fishing. I have even caught salmon and giant laker trout in Lake Chelan.

We are planning a trip this year in June. We may not stay at Neah Bay, but we do not have all the details ironed out yet. My buddies are planning to stay for two weeks, way too long for me with all of my other planned trips.

I’m a field service engineer, which means I travel a lot. I lived in Oregon most of my life. Currently living in Arizona. My Mom lives up close to the Columbia, and my job sends me to Portland and Seattle many times. I’d love to arrange to fish with you. It’ll just take some good timing and planning. Not sure what the best way to make contact would be? My job may bring me back to the Portland area?

You should prob take a closer look at WA fishing regulations: No min. size. Daily limit 7. Only blue/deacon, yellowtail, widow, and black may be retained. Thanks Rob! We study the regulations to remain legal and compliant. We are avid fishermen and try our best to be sustainable. We try to always release large female fish to keep the stock replenished. We are definitely following the rules.

I normally have it on all the time. I must have just taken off a top jacket. It is a comfortable Mustag self-inflating life vest. When you see me on the Kayak, you always see me in a fishing life jacket.

You are correct. There are several shots of me not wearing my life jacket. One dumb one was walking to the cockpit while the boat was moving. Good practice is to keep the life jacket on while on the boat. You had better believe my friend and captain of "Silver Linings" would not save me.

@@livinglife2535 ohh nice we have a 55 hour halibut opener i this Monday than salmon is open for us till September I’m usually down the marina every day come find me next time your in neah bay hook ya up with some fresh fish I do bottom drag to on that big dragger behind that tug boat so usually have a little bit of everything
