I was 30 in 98, and my witchy side was in full swing by the time these flicks came out. I loove spending a rainy fall weekend watching them. I did write a ritual for a group based on the broom ritual in Practical Magic -- it was super powerful. The book is totally different.
@Thewitchescookery Жыл бұрын
I heard about the book being different from the movie and I saw it also has two prequels (is this how you write that word?). Would be super interested to hear about the broom ritual ❤️

If you haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend a film from the early 2000 called "Chocolat" with Juliette Binoche. It's not necessarily witchy, but the magic comes in the form of a strong-willed woman shaking up a sleepy, highly religious village in 1950's France with her chocolate shop. It has a bit of romance, but the film is more focused on how the people of the town are helped and come together. Plus it has Dame Judi Dench as a cranky grandma, so you know it's going to be good!😂👍 And the chocolates look sooo tasty! 🤤

Parts of Practical Magic were filmed in downtown Coupeville on Whidbey Island, and the house was built in San Juan Island...up in my great Pacific Northwest. And you are probably right about growing up with it. I'm much older than you dear one, so I didn't grow up with it; but was still happily surprised to see Witches portrayed as real folk...not just evil, green skinned, warty nosed, hags.

The 90s were a very painful, frightening time in my life. But I have been putting lot of work--both practical and magical--into healing the old wounds from that time. This video gave me all sorts of inspiration for some fun, gentle ceremony that I can implement to honor the brave young girl who made it through those dark, horrible times. I Found that Whimsigoth playlist a few months ago and it took me right back to the 90s! I think I fell in love with Practical Magic because it best represented my practice at a time when Wicca seemed to be the ‘only way’. The Aunts were definitely how I saw myself. I actually really like the book too which is a little different from the film.

I was only a kid in the 90s but this video feels made for me. I grew up reading Raymond buckland’s books and begging my mom for the silver RavenWolf teen witch kit which I was over the moon about. I was so happy when she got it for me. I started collecting tarot cards and crystals, writing spells in my journal and watching all of the witchy shows and movies. I don’t think it’s a shock that as I grew up, I was open minded and “wise beyond my years” as adults would call it, because I had absorbed so much from the elder witches. What a time to be alive! I miss those days but I’m confident we can get them back. Magic can be summoned at any time, as Stevie Nicks would say. 💜

So many good 90s witch things! Honestly, the Craft was one of those things that kind of opened the door for me. It got me very curious and when I started looking these things up, specifically stuff by Gerna Dunwich and Scott Cunningham I felt that connection. One of the things I appreciated about the craft was that it wasn't everyone versus the witch. It was witch versus witch! Which was really different, especially during the time of satanic panic.
