Day one of my new life as a solo deer. It's been a fun journey, and I hope to start my own herd with myself as the leader. Day two, I've met a red deer. He's strange, but there's safety in numbers and he's larger than me. Hopefully I can break off soon as we find more of our own species. He's named me Fred. My name is Darren..doesn't matter, we won't be travelling together for long. Day two; part two, Things have immediately taken a turn for the worse. Not only does this creature seem to lack basic survival skills, but he's been talking about "breeding," with me if he can't find a mate. I've located a waterfall. Hopefully if I hide here he'll lose my scent and leave me be. Day three, After several hours cowering in the waterfall it seems the red deer has left me to my fate. I know of a lake nearby where I could easily feed and drink while I search for a mate and companions for my future herd. If I'm lucky I'll never encounter that red deer again. Day three; part two, The red deer is some sort of Eldritch Deer God. Not only did it survive a fall from great heights, but it's changed not only my species but also my gender. I'm a female now. The transformation process was painful. It still calls me Fred. It mocks me, but I am powerless to stop it.

bachelor herds are actually common among ungulates like deer, which are composed primarily unrelated groups of mature bucks/bulls that travel together throughout most of the year. a true sausage fest, nonetheless. :)

Is this similar to what rogue lions do? Not sure if bucks get kicked out of the herd when they grow up if there is already a buck or if they have to challenge the buck and win to stay in the herd

@@_ubiquitous_9766 precisely! rogue lions are exiled from their prides by the dominant male (often their father and/or uncle) after they've reached a certain age and are perceived as a threat. some may remain, but others ultimately roam to establish harems of their own. similarly, young bucks/bulls are often exiled by the dominant male(s) of their herd, though they may still stick around in their parents' territory. of course, if the dominant male is challenged, they may retaliate, but it may be too much for a young male to tank. a bachelor group is defined by a group of generally juvenile males who are still sexually immature that have been cast out of their parents' group, but have not yet established a territory or secured a harem. there are several other species besides lions and deer that disperse, too!

It is going to be an extremely long time before anything gets done with the game again. The developer is working on a different game in Unreal so that he can rebuild The Wilds in the Unreal Engine. As of right now this games development is on hold indefinitely.

Worth noting for anyone who wants to try this game: Updates are on temporary hiatus because the dev has had to switch from unity to unreal engine, and is working on smaller games to hone their skills with the new engine before doing a revamp of this game and continuing development. They have an ocean animal sim set to release in September.

@@toyotawitha20mm35 There's nothing to do in the game but fight people. And the lead dev actively discourages modding and community run servers with rules. Add in the fact that night time is nearly unplayable and equal length to day time, and you get perfect melting pot for bored people looking to kos just to have something to do. If you aren't being toxic, you're playing the game as a dino chat room.

He’s playing as a red deer which is like a type of elk Edit: as the Feral Woman pointed out red deer are not in fact a type of elk. They are closely related to elk as members of the sub family Cervinae

@@DoctorSess Definitely not a type of elk, but they *are* related. His red deer is a proper red deer, but "mule deer" is not only NOT what that is, but it'd be on the wrong continent lol.

@@FeralSheWolf yes technically they are two different species but elk and red deer are both part of Cervinae which is a sub family of Cervidae. Mule deer are part of Capreolinae which are the new world deer.

Yeahh, that mountain pass is kinda weird and known for breaking you pack mate's legs. Still being worked on haha, since the game is only has one guy working on the whole thing.
