Still a kid at heart sledding with Frankie. That's so cool. Picking veggies in January not many folks can do . You do love that bubble foil. I like how you place it in the planter boxes adds a little warmth as well as protection of the wood. You know you just can't beet the enjoyment of being in a greenhouse in the middle of winter . There's so much to enjoy and discover what works and what doesn't. Best job in the world providing for your selves wholesome food's.

Life is amazing. and a room full of it has to have a positive effect upon you. My Pop called himself a "gentleman farmer". He had a regular daily job but if you were looking for him before or after quitting time head to the garden. You might bring a 6 pack if you needed to talk. LOL but you knew when you went there would be something he needed your help with. LOL I swear he did all that work just so he could see the seeds break thru the earth and grow. Long ago, on a show called "Green Acres", they were laughing about the lawyer who turned into a farmer and his wife said, "he just loved seeing the seeds burst up thru the soil and shoot up to the sky". I think that should be on every real farmers/grower's headstone. Says a lot about a man.

Your greenhouse looks amazing. I know what you mean when you say you get great joy going into your greenhouse and seeing plants thriving in the winter. I got bored one weekend this fall and enclosed a lean-to on the back of my shed. I guess you call it a hothouse instead of a true greenhouse. The roof is metal roofing. I took reclaimed storm windows, storm door and the sides are polycarbonate. I put 2 inch insulation foam board under the tin roof and added plywood for a ceiling. I added a small fan and a oil filled space heater in it. Yesterday I picked sweet 100 tomatoes, jalapeno and chili peppers. I love just sitting in there doing absolutely nothing. Just waiting on my heirloom seed catalog to arrive.

The Chadwick Large Cherry Tomatoes are a great Heirloom tomato. They are also indeterminate climbing tomatoes. They just keep growing & growing until they die from frost or old age. Peppers can and do overwinter. Sometimes they will lose all their leaves in the greenhouse but come spring they come back fast and with force. Peppers are famous for slow starting in the spring, but not the overwinter plants. If roots were kept alive, the plant grows great!

Because the flowers are up high, they get more sunlight and heat. I have experimented and grew dry beans from the supermarket in hanging pots. When the petunia flower is dying, let it turn brown before picking it, you can get the seeds from it and grow more. The greenery makes you feel good and happy, seeing life!

It's summer here, and the tomato plants out the back, once they're out of the soil, the plant looks dead, all yellowed and crunchy... But the top parts have crawled their way along the ground into some shade and are still green and fluffy, so I staked up the shadecloth, see if the base of the plant will recover with some cover from the sun

I'm building a greenhouse this year. Going to use a car port framing with no roof. Very easy to put up. 1/4 barricaded wall with flat rock slabs that absorb heat and holds it. Which are call Soapstone. The rest is going to be a Double Plastic Layer Inflation System with air blown between them. Doing it this way, because didn't want to have to get a building permit or raise my property taxes. Easy to tear back down if need to.

Great video. Glad you are enjoying your greenhouse so much. Not going to take the time to read over 400 comments to see if someone else has already said this: the small hairs on the stems of tomato plants are a type of root (forgot the name). That is why they are easier to root from broken and cut stems. You can even bend a long stem over, brush a little soil over it, and soon the hairs have turned into roots. Cut the stem and plant the new plant. Your pepper plant doesn't have those hairs. It would probably have done better if you had moved the trimmed plant in front of a sunny window in the cabin where it is warm all the time. Keep experimenting, who knows what you will discover!
