I was amazed at the size of those leaves with the banana plants. For a brief moment, the land that time forgot came to mind. Well done for making your land so fertile in what seemed an impossible task at the beginning.

They were enormous! The plants had gotten huge this year! Very Jurassic! I'm. Hoping the new nana get equally big next year 🤞🍌

We need a pantry which is on the list and or enough power to use the dehydrator on them. Our friend dried Many, I was jealous

Congratulations to try to grow the banana trees in the continent of Portugal without the traditional greenhouse Very smart to compost some organic matter to warm the trees but how the heat spreads to the tree with the plastic protection? But very smart, indeed. I'm Portuguese and I am very happy that you share with us your Technics and know-how. Cheers and Merry Xtmas

Thank you 🍌 The compost in the centre warms and keeps the roots warm and from frost as well as feeding the banana. This is their 2nd winter there and the newly planted nanas in the nursery garden are much hardier varieties. Many from the Himalayan mountains. But one is an unknown variety given by a Portuguese farmer that we know fruits and they've grown the same type for generations so that's super exciting too 🤗🍌

I hope you feel delighted with your progress on everything, well done! 👏 🤩 I be digging the idea of tackling things that don’t take long. Especially when they have been hanging round a long time.

We are really pleased! And some of the smaller jobs we had put off it's been so satisfying to have them finished, especially the roof extention over the kitchen area. Game changer! 🙏🤗

Everything is looking so good! Great job on getting all those projects done! I think you should get as much done on the cabin as you can before your break.

Way to go guys! With the the winds we had on Monday and the frost last night and this morning you saved an awful lot of plants. Those Abyssinian Bananas are amazing - wish Diane wasn't allergic but I am determined to grow some - possibly in a poly tunnel. We have had such lovely weather thus far, you knew it was going to lull us into a false sense of security. We had a great olive harvest this year going on the first week the Lagar was open - we will have to do some trading and swapping. You will all have to come over for some grub and a good natter and a look at the wicking beds. Have a wonderful, peaceful and cosy Christmas!

Weren't the winds brutal and then so frosty! Was, freezing here especially as our heater broke 😔 She allergic to the plants or the banana themselves? Love to see your wicking beds!

I would suggest sorting the cabin so Rosie could go in and use the downstairs, and do stuff she likes doing as I think she will be itching to get in there and have her own wee castle , but if you think the compost toilet is needed then it should be first.

Aw, thanks, I think as, with us it's both.... Just started shingling couldn't resist! But Missy is itching to decorate and tidy the downstairs as well 🙏

yeap, food forests work. when one respects the land, she pays back generously. good philosophy. working on the land is hard work. don't overdo it. rest often. relax. during summer seek shade, hydrate well and avoid diuretic drinks, like beer. heat stroke is common. that's the main reason alentejo's traditional houses have thick, thick walls of clay. keep it up. stay strong 🤠😎

Absolutely, love the young new nursery garden and our food, forest is, already paying dividends especially with the diverse pollinators returned to the land ❤️

Dom, so if you have had your banana plants in the ground for 3 or more years, will that make them hardy, to cope with the frosty days/ nights?????
@TheWildlandersOffGrid5 сағат бұрын
The big ones are in there 2nd winter, but sadly get no hardier with age... Some of the newly planted ones come from places like the Himalayan mountains so should be much hardier....
@jayneward66494 сағат бұрын
@TheWildlandersOffGrid oh, I see, so at least you will have Hardy ones on your land 💛💛💛💛💛
