I travelled India in my early 20s on a tight budget for over 4 months surviving off a lot of street food, and I only got ill once on some fish down south. It's the chain restaurants like Subway you have to be careful of most of the time. Most street food stalls are safe so long as there's a reasonably good flow of custom to keep the food hot and fresh. For the taste it's worth the risk every time.

As an Indian, I want to give a suggestion to all foreigners visiting, if you don't wanna get sick then forst things to avoid. Milk and milk products sold on streets specially if they are cold. You can have hot boiling one. And anything that have ice, because this ice is made of most unhygienic water. If you were to drink fresh juice, tell them to not add ice.

Most foreigners, just like how you did, eat streetfood with their hands in India, without doing the proper hygiene practice of washing hands which is required for eating with hands, and then blame the streetfood vendors, not even sparing a thought that they themselves are probably the ones to blame for getting the bug. Especially when they do not have the same gut microbiome as locals. While I agree, this sounds like you took it personal when the video is clearly done for information purposes and not to be rude towards any locals who are just trying to make money and do not have the means to always keep everything fresh. My friend recently visited India and he also came home with a stomach bug. And since we met in a forum for Emetophobes (people afraid of vomit) it's very evident that he did anything he could to prevent it. If you eat a meal like chicken that has been exposed to the heat and maybe cooked in old oil, it's almost guaranteed to make you sick, even if you wash your hands.

Why do westerners go to place where most of the locals wouldn't even eat? The street food just cost pennies who are meant for poor people who can't afford proper food. It's like going to a garbage bin and complaining the food made you ill. The people eat what they eat to survive. An bread omelette for 20 cents, In proper restaurant it would cost over 1 dollar. The obsession of westerners on making street food videos is honestly irritating. I am from Nepal and I visited India once and never ate in such places, only in proper restaurants. Food was clean, well made and very flavourful and didn't make me sick.
