You brought tears to my eyes as Samos is my grandmother's island. I spent several summers in a place called Kerveli. You can sail there. My aunt had a cottage on land adjacent to the beach. Back then, there was no electricity, running water, or telephone lines, so no hotels or taverns. All we did was swim, fish, read, take naps, and in the evening sit around the propane lamp with others and share stories. That was 40 years ago. My understanding is that the place is totally developed today. I don't know what my cousins did with the land. I hope you make some equally beautiful memories on the island!

One, Shock the water tanks with chlorine from all access points. That should solve the problem. You have to put up with the odor but it will not hurt you and will dissipate over time. Two, there are inflatable passerelles similar to inflatable paddle boards that roll up quite small.
@deerfootnz2 күн бұрын
DO NOT ever use chlorine unless you want to buy new water maker membranes. If you shock the tanks with chlorine the activated carbon filter will fail on the first flush cycle and the membrane will die.

This. Get the bleach in the lines and tank, leave overnight and then flush out in the morning. We do this in our house due to our well water every 6 months. It's also safe to drink if there is a bit left in the tank at the end.

Any suggestions on how to navigate around the whole 'you need an ICC'? I ask, not because of trying to avoid learning (been there, done that, had one but am no longer eligible to keep one), but because I'm ineligible to have one due to nationality. I'm a citizen of two EU countries but don't have a marine licence from either of them as I don't live in the EU and thus am ineligible to hold those licences which leaves me in a situation where I'm being told I need an ICC on top of the marine licence I have from where I live, but according to RYA I'm ineligible due to my nationality. What options, if any do I have?

@sailingrubyrose2 күн бұрын
Yeah, there's loads of travel e-SIMs, but I reckon they're a lot more expensive than local SIM cards. We do toggle on roaming for the first day or two in a new country until we can get to a phone shop.
@MsHappy-u5o2 күн бұрын
Have you tried e-sim cards?- so much easier.
@sailingrubyrose2 күн бұрын
We have e-SIMS but the roaming charges are much higher than buying a local SIM card. I think the Greek SIMs were something like 15 euros for 30 days unlimited 5G- and there's good signal everywhere. We've bought Starlink since filming this ep, so that's the boat internet sorted out, but still need something for our phones.

Have you looked into e-SIM Cards.... you just chose the country on the App and/or they send the code through an email. Holaty is one.
@sailingrubyrose2 күн бұрын
Yeah, there's quite a few good options for eSIMs but Greece has super cheap data and widespread 5G coverage. So it's a lot cheaper/easier to just use a local SIM here. In Turkiye data is much more expensive, so I think we'll stick to eSIMs or even roaming next time we go back.
