I've since moved cities and am now living in Rio de Janeiro, a more expensive city than Belo Horizonte. So can I live on $650 in Brazil, in Rio de Janeiro? Well, this video will answer that question.

If someone is thinking of studying a Master's degree in Brazil, you need to know that a scholarship (bolsa) is 1500 reais= 286 dollars. The advantage is that universities have cheap restaurants: for 1 dollar you can have food for a week. I lived in Florianópolis where rent is very expensive. So, you can find affordable places but they're not comfortable. I'm not from Brazil, so I had to use part of the money in plane tickets. I think the scholarship isn't enough, but you can survive. Worst of all, the government had eliminated some scholarships and is planning to eliminate more. Recommendation: never try hitchhiking!!!!

Hey Rocky! I'm in Barrio de Fatima, which is next to Lapa. I just go to the grocery store that is closest. There are lots of little snack bars around Rio, which is one cool thing. I'll get back to you on the name of the gym because I don't know. haha. But I know smart fit is good and cheap.

Hello, I'm brazilian, and a digital nomad, I've spent about 6 months in Rio, my advice as someone from the country, you should spend about 500-600 dollars on rent in Rio, it's one of the most expensive cities in Brazil, of course you could get apartments for cheaper there, but you should spend a little bit more for a safer neighborhood, Rio being a somewhat dangerous city, so yeah about 500-600 dollars for a 2 bedroom in a safe neighborhood, i paid 400 for a one bedroom living there in a good neighborhood.

I know you didn't ask this, but just for some perspective, i was living on 1000 dollars a month, and really comfortable, so I'd think the budget for 2 people should be about 1500-1800 dollars, this is for a comfortable living in my opinion, but there are more budget friendly options.

My monthly budget breakdown was like this: 400 usd for rent 70 usd for utilities 40 usd for subscriptions 30 usd for internet 80 usd for food 100 usd on transportation ( i work from home so this is just for ubers, i do not recommend public transportation in Rio) All together is about 720 USD, i always save up about 200-300 usd for other expenses such as buying stuff or travelling to nearby cities

Get familiar with the laws regarding Pit bull before you bring one to Rio. Pitbull can only be in he streets between 5p and 10p and with a mouth cover (not sure how you call that in English)

A little tip for you. If are a digital nomad and earn in Dollar you can multiply your earns by 5. Basically US$ 1.00 corresponds to R$ 5.00. Living with US$ 1000.00 in Brazil you can live as king. 😂😂😂😂😂
