Hi God bless you and yours!! Really nice job. But how do you obtain so many colors with only 2 stains?
@MuralsbyMarcyV3 жыл бұрын
Hi Felipe. May God bless you and your family, as well. The bender board I used had very inconsistent coloring to begin with. But, using a paint brush, I would layer one stain over the other, then flip flop the order on different pieces. Sometimes, I just used one. Other times I'd put multiple layers of stain to make the color darker, or barely put any at all to make it lighter. I was experimenting with different combinations the whole time, and was so happy with how it all turned out in the end. Thanks for checking out my video.
@advratna18 жыл бұрын
very nice. did you sand the wood before you stained it? i like the colors but dont like a rough wall do you think sanding is good?
@MuralsbyMarcyV8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for checking out my video. That's a good question. In this case, I didn't sand them, because the wood wasn't that rough. If I had a baby crawling around, who might rub up against the wall, I probably would have. It just depends on the individual project and if you're going for a particular look.

Very nice work your wall looks great. I did a similar wall in our living room and used wood fence slats which are thicker but after watching your video and seeing you used Bender Board, I would certainly recommend that people use the Bender Board like you did. I like that the bender board is thin and if you have molding, the thinner the wood is the better so it doesnt protrude out past the crown and base board molding. Again, great job I will be doing another wall and will use Bender Board this time thanks for the video!

Marcy wonderful video!! I have a cedar ceiling and one cedar wall. Do you think this gray would go well with it? What is that color called anyway?
@MuralsbyMarcyV8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for checking out my video, Katy. I really couldn't tell you how it would look on your cedar ceiling or wall, but I would definitely encourage you to get a sample piece of cedar to just try it out on and see if you like it. The stains I used were called "Weathered Gray" and "Willow" by Rust-Oleum. Depending on how much of the gray I used, some of my pieces came out more like a blue-gray. I loved it, though. Worked for my project.

It's really a matter of personal preference and how much work you want to do. The smaller the pieces, the more cutting and nailing. My wall is 10 x 12, so we cut 4', 2', and 1' pieces. Then we ended up cutting smaller custom pieces to fill in the odd areas. Hope this helps. Thanks for checking out my video.
@tanya29268 жыл бұрын
Looks great!!! I am unclear about how you got such a color variations with just two stains. Did you first stain all the wood, then add watered down paint for color variations? If you did, what paint colors did you use? There is too much blue and white to occur with just two wood stain colors. What did you do specifically? Sorry to be a pest but I want to do this too. Thanks so much!
@MuralsbyMarcyV8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for checking out my video Tanya! I did only use two stains; the gray and the white, but I applied them differently to each piece of wood. Because I used bender board, the pieces I bought came in varying shades to begin with. So, some I left pretty close to natural, while others I applied heavy stain. I did light layers of gray, then went back and streaked it with white stain, some I did two layers of gray stain and then added the white, some I did the complete opposite, I did some just gray, some just white, and I never cleaned my brush in between. I think that is the biggest trick. Don't clean your brush. Hope this helps. Good luck with your project!

Thank you for your video, enjoy your project very much, just did a couple things different, first I bought my wood already with the same width, and stained it all before it was cut, to me it was much easier this way, then it was just to cut to the necessary measure, nailing I didn't look for the studs, I simply use 1" 1/4 finished nails, and the trick was nail the boards position the nais in sideway 45°angle in opposite rows, that was much easy not to be worried to be always on the studs. Before that I tested a 24" board nailing to a piece of sheet rock and the result was very positive, I had a hard time to remove or separated the board out of the sheet rock, thankfully.

Where can I purchase those redwood bender boards? I'm doing a large wall in my basement but neither Home Depot nor Lowe's has them.

That's strange. I wonder if it's sold only in certain regions, because I got mine at Lowe's, and I know for sure they also carry it at the Home Depot where I live. (I'm in Arizona.) You could probably try a large nursery, because that's the kind of wood that is used in gardens. Either way, I hope you find something that works. If you get a chance, share photos of your project on my Murals by Marcy facebook page. I'd love to see what you come up with.

Hi Yeni. The wood we used is only about 1/4" thick. It was inexpensive, but also imperfect, so we spent a lot of time at Lowe's going through each piece to pick the ones we could work with. @MuralsbyMarcyV7 жыл бұрын
Glue will likely destroy your drywall when you decide to take the wood off down the road. That's why I went with small brad nails. Minimal damage, yet it's strong enough to hold up the wood.

sorry don't like that at all, the contrasts in the wood colours are too drastic, nothing subtle or natural. to get a more natural look you use a dry brush and put on the colour sparingly to give it an old and washed effect

Do you have any recommendations for doing this wood panel on a concrete wall? do i need to place all planks directly to the wall or put a flywood or something first then the planks? thank you!
@MuralsbyMarcyV6 жыл бұрын
Try covering your wall with the thinnest sheet/s of plywood you can find. Probably 1/4" thick. Use concrete nails/screws to attach it to your wall. Then you can nail your individual planks onto it. You could also glue the planks directly onto your concrete wall using a good epoxy glue, like liquid nail. Although, over time, it may not last as long. I'm sure there's lots of info on this subject online. Good luck with your project, and thanks for checking out my video.

Looks awesome, Marcy! When you stained those did you completely cover each plank with the stain or did you lightly bush some? Just wondering if the variations in each plank is the unique grain in each piece coming though after it drys, or because you didn't use as much stain on some of them.
@MuralsbyMarcyV7 жыл бұрын
Some I lightly brushed, others I did two layers of heavy stain. I even layered one stain over the other. I wanted a lot of variation and was able to achieve that with just two stains. The bender board wood that I used was also very inconsistent, so the pieces that I thought were prettiest naturally, I put very little stain on. Thanks for checking out my video, Justin.
