For any doubters out there, I have had bipolar disorder for nearly 20 years. My parents chose not to put me on meds and as I got older I too chose not to accept meds. I was introduced to the Four Agreements around age 16 and have been living the Agreements since. They work! I'm not saying I'm cured, but had I not had The Four Agreements, I'm pretty sure I would have left this world long ago. Apart from my disorder, I have been through all forms of abuse from my ex-spouse. If I can, you can! Making the The Four Agreements my new way of thinking is what got me through all the high and lows that Bipolar Disorder throws at you! So keep reading it, don't dismiss any of it and definitely make these concepts your own....the changes and strength that these 4 simple agreements will give you, are priceless!

Thank you Don Miguel Ruiz. I have been aware of Deepak Chopra since I was a teenager. I love your books, teachings and way of helping our fellow human beings. It has been with your help that I have become happier, at peace and more accepting of the fact that nothing should be taken personally. Another important lesson to learn from your books was that of someone is trying to change you or put hell into your life, then they do not really accept you or love you the way you are. It is important to let them go. I love your website and all the products you have available. Thank you for helping is all and most of all, thank you for giving me the tools to help myself and the tools and wisdom that I can pass onto people who wish to learn, stop hurting themselves and to live with peace, heaven and awareness. :-) p

Read the "Four Agreements" 2 weeks ago after a recommendation from one of my favourite youtube sisters "EverythingLuxy" and my mother inlaw. I have never felt better, mentally, psychologically and spiritually. I was trying to buy things to make me happy when really it was so simple. Knowledge is power! My husband is reading it now and I am super excited to get the box set soon. Thank you sooo sooo much Don Miguel Ruiz. You are my inspiration hero :D Lots of love Rach xxx From New Zealand.

Thank you! I now have inspiration to read the book. The ideas of language as symbol and shared agreement being the crux of our society/reality have been in my head for years. I imagine there's more to it than that, and now my curiosity and spirit are intrigued.

It's not all that easy to explain why you feel the way you do. The point is that you feel it so no rationalization is needed. People are afraid, have been abused and want material things. They have different desires than stalking and dreaming for the simple sake of those things. People want to hear what they want to hear. I am not condemning because nothing is good or bad. To be disturbed by people is a cunning power drain. Some might feel sorry for them but they got the THINGS they wanted.

I'm very concerned that this theory of "not taking things personally" may give people (who are natural azzholes) permission to continue being azzholes, no matter how many people tell them how they really are. These types of naturally azzhole-ish people, who hold on to the belief of "not taking things personally" love nothing more than to believe that they are perfectly fine the way they are, while they continue to offend. Though you point out to them their azzhole-ishness, they don't "take it personal" and continue being the azzes they naturally are.
@swwilliams1326

If you take personally what these type of people say or do, then you become "easy prey" for them. Perhaps the best way to think about a person who uses this theory as an excuse, is to look at them as very sick people. Look at organized criminals for example. They are always saying, "its not personal, its just business" before they whack someone. Perhaps this type of person could never be changed to begin with? You sound like an honest person, who loves peace but is troubled by some conflicts in your life. I hope it does not get the best of you, because then that person would win. I am starting to think of it like this; I may not be able to stop someone from breaking into your house, but I can keep them from breaking into mine. I hope they do not move onto yours, and I will watch your back, but I primarily have to take care of mine first. I can't give the bad guys access. Let them move on. In the case of the organized criminal, eventually they always get whats been coming to them in the end anyway. Right? So its not even about me telling them "the way they are". Its not easy though, to try to "not" put someone in their place, when they are out of line. Especially if they are a family member or loved one, right?

there will still be assholes out there even if you live by the four agreements it’s not going to make them go away but it will make you feel lighter when YOU don’t take things personal.

Indeed, this philosophy, in the hands of a narcissist or someone with borderline personality, can be misused. It's a great shield for them to stand behind. You will be their prey as the person below mentions, and they will happily dine upon you over and over again, hungrily and happily pointing to Don Miguel's philosophy that "You are taking this personally" giving them ongoing permission to duck responsibility and subsequently causing you to feel like you are losing your mind (one of the effects of hanging out with a narc). You are spot-on with your perception!

"Easy Prey" for someone who is a Four Agreement book-thumper? Ugh. Been there. Done that. It sometimes seems these books were written for sick individuals. Sadly, they are perfect for those who don't want to take responsibility for their actions.@@swwilliams1326

I am an open-minded person. I embrace many philosophies and paths. But I am sorry, I do not buy this one. Especially now that I have lived in Chiapas and have been exposed to true Toltec spiritual wisdom. Anyway, I have always had doubts from the beginning about Ruiz. I admit, I was lured in at one time, along with so many others ripe for exploitation in the mid-nineties. Many of us were hungry for some new wisdom at that time; the New Age movement was hungry for more literature and there wasn't much being published and Ruiz had timing on his side. And Toltec wisdom sounded exotic and sexy. And we all bought it, hook line and sinker. Sort of. I had doubts. But finally, today, I have read, and re-read his books, and now, with age and wisdom on my side, I can confidently stand up and call BS. I have seen his philosophy in action and watched the loopholes unravel. I've watched narcissists and other unevolved people operate behind the premise of these books and this is often what it looks like: "Don't be upset with me. I know I slept with your husband, and I told you that you were imagining things and that you were paranoid when you confronted me about it, but hey, Don Ruiz says it's your problem because you are taking this personally." And by the way, claiming this is Toltec wisdom is an out-and-out lie. Such a rip-off of that magnificent culture. Most people down here in Chiapas with greater spiritual Toltec wisdom know that he's a charlatan.
@araya11
@araya11 4 жыл бұрын
His teachings are most likely watered down to be more palatable to the greater population. There is still great wisdom in his teachings. Not all of us can get down to Chiapas nor do they have a way to disseminate their teachings to the masses. Yeah, yeah seek and you shall find. Keep up the good work Ruiz.

araya11 You’ve missed my point. You won’t find it down here in Chiapas! Drink some more Kool-Aid. This was packaged up and marketed nicely especially for first-world people desperately in search of exotic spirituality because in one way or another they are feeling the emptiness of a bankrupt colonized Capitalist society that led them astray. He just cobbled this simplistic BS together and put a pretty, sexy, exotic bow on it for you. Do your research. Or, continue to delude yourself.

Is Jesus anywhere in this study? He said to love our God, heart, mind and soul. And to love others. This study is all about analyzing my umbilical. Don't we spend entirely too much time thinking about our self? Let's use our energy to imitate Christ, serve our fellow man. Love our God.

Of all the systems of religion that ever were invented, there is none more derogatory to the Almighty, more unedifying to man, more repugnant to reason, and more contradictory in itself, than this thing called Christianity. Too absurd for belief, too impossible to convince, and too inconsistent for practice, it renders the heart torpid, or produces only atheists and fanatics.
