Living Under The Fear Of Sugarcane Leopards | I Witness

Less than 100 km from Pune live the sugarcane leopards of Junnar. The big cats have adapted to their surroundings, taking cover in the sugarcane fields here, that offer some cover for their young cubs too. But that also means coming too close to human settlements in search of livestock that can become prey. The inevitable encounters have worried residents here who have come face to face with the wild cat while walking back home or while working in their fields. In the last one year, at least 10 of these encounters have proved fatal. We travel to Junnar to speak to residents who live with the big cat as their neighbour.
