I need to extend a sincere thank you to Henry and Land Rover. You see I have struggled for years to find a vehicle capable of transporting my Straw weight boxer Entourage around while still having enough space to pick up stranded Jockys that would otherwise be washed away in the rain. Thanks to my Discovery Sport we can finally ride comfortably.

Good Video and the Discovery is really a fine SUV - looking quite good and well posed, plenty of space and with real off-road capabilities.

I had a discovery Sport for just over three years. A 2016 HSE. Only two issues, the DAB radio would drop out on loss of signal, this was corrected by a software update. The outer plastic cover of one of the tailgate powered cylinders came loose (did not effect the operability of the cylinder). This was apparently a known issues and LR replaced both during a service. I liked my Discovery Sport and found it great in the winter (I live in North Scotland). I sold it to return to my LR of choice, a Range Rover Sport. One negative I would say is don't believe the MPG figures quoted by LR. I get better MPG from my last two Range Rover Sports than I did from my Disco Sport, about 2mpg better. Disco Sport 28-30mpg RR Sport 30-32mpg. I find this surprising as the RR Sport is a heavier vehicle. I do mainly short trips in and around Aberdeen with the occasional trip down to Edinburgh. I and my family have been driving Land Rovers for over 20 years and found them all to be reliable so I take most of the negative comments about Land Rovers with a pinch of salt..

What about reliability? To me, that is probably the most important question. I don't know whether I am right or wrong, but I find myself still holding onto a certain perception of doubts on the reliability of the Land Rover/Range Rover badge. So, I would love to know how the Discovery Sport fare in that department.
@kevinberger35016 жыл бұрын
Alex Fu yes that would be interesting to get a response on the reliability issue. It’s unique for a vehicle to be tested for such an extensive period of time and I’m curious to know if they’ve had vehicle failures.
@chrispig77486 жыл бұрын
Alex Fu yes same for me, I like Land Rover but I hear too many problems with them
@stevehardy75846 жыл бұрын
I've got 69.000 kms on my Discovery Sport (petrol 240 bhp) and have had zero problems with it (3,5 years). The only repairs have been because I did something stupid, like reverse into a concrete bollard. My previous land rover was a Discovery 4 which I drove around 100.000 kms in 4,5 years and was also totally reliable. So that's 8 problem free years. I read a lot about reliability issues but not from people who actually own and drive them. Or am I just lucky?
@Rascallucci6 жыл бұрын
Cuchulain Hammilcar That's good to hear and gives me some confidence towards the Discovery Sport. I may seriously have to consider getting one. But, I do wonder given Jaguar also belongs to the same Group whether their reliability has also been improved accordingly? One could argue the F-Pace competes with the Discovery Sport which could make it quite a tough choice.

I love the Discovery Sport. It looks way better than the Discovery and renders the Evoque obsolete. I even prefer it to the Velar.
@MegaGouch6 жыл бұрын
The Evoque is not a real Land Rover anyway. It's purely there to let poorer people who want to look flash think they own a Range Rover. It's the only current Land Rover model not to have adjustable air suspension, that pretty much says it all.
@v12-s656 жыл бұрын
MegaGouch the evoque is more expensive than the disco sport, what are you talking about? I have to agree, the not "dynamic or autob" models look hella ugly, but otherwise it's a true land rover
@MegaGouch6 жыл бұрын
Yes, but the Evoque is a 'Range Rover' so you can tell people you own a Range Rover. The only reason the Sport, Velar or Evoque exists is to allow people with different price brackets into a 'Range Rover'. The Discovery Sport is much the same trying to cash in on the Discovery name, when really its a Freelander 3, as it (along with the Evoque) are not built on the same chassis as the model they are claiming to be a part of. I let the Discovery Sport keep a 'real' Land Rover claim as it has come as a replacement to the Freelander which when first built filled basically created a new spot in the SUV/4x4 market. The Evoque on the other hand was entirely aimed at people who had zero need for a 4x4 or any offroad/towing capabilities but wanted to own a Range Rover.

Discovery Sport is, without question, the best car Land Rover makes. It is enormous inside, bearing in mind it is a compact SUV, very comfy and well spec-ed at HSE and beyond. The only gripe is that I would have preferred the sat nav lower and the central air vents positioned above. THe exterior design is ageing VERY well. I prefer it to my company RRS. Next years facelift will introduce a new interior that corrects the layout of the sat nav / air vents, new door casings and revised engine management and tech.

The one issue we had with our 2019 was extreme cold, like -25-35c causes a sensor to freeze on the intake and then puts the car in restricted performance mode. This I guess is a known issue, but no solution. Living in Canada might mean I get to experience this multiple times a winter :(

Henry is right, Land Rover is a far more desirable badge than Range Rover for most people. It's all because of the type of people that buy Range Rovers. They're stigmatized.
@TheAegisClaw6 жыл бұрын
@Dithh afraid not, it was and is designed to be. But so long as tw*ts keep buying Range Rovers, they'll always be a badge to avoid. No class anymore.
@TheAegisClaw6 жыл бұрын
@Dithh no, it's Henry's opinion too, and the 29 who liked my comment versus the none who liked yours.
@TheAegisClaw6 жыл бұрын
@Dithh It's irrelevant, I am not jealous of a RR and could afford one. I have an XC90.
@TheAegisClaw6 жыл бұрын
@Dithh I wasnt comparing anything to a range rover. That's what you're trying to do, to justify the point that most people prefer Land Rover. Which is absolutely true. I'd take my Volvo over either tbh, far better interior design, far better looking and the technology driving my T8 to get 400 horsepower from a 2 litre petrol engine is amazing. It's reliability could be better, but JLR are not known for theirs either.
@MegaGouch6 жыл бұрын
Most people would love to have a Range Rover, who wouldn't want a $200,000 car. But most people when they see a Range Rover on the road make assumptions that the driver is a footballer, or a rich soccer mum, or some one who thinks they are better than everyone else. Where as if you see a Discovery on the road (or in the past Defender or Freelander) they same assumptions are not made.

I had a brand new Disco Sport (324 miles) as a loaner for a week, and it was a total POS. It rattled, the driver side sun visor literally fell out of the roof, the wind shield spray jets weren't installed correctly, one actually fell inside the body. The transmission hunts all over the place. I was glad to get my LR4 back.

I bought a brand new Disco Sport, HSE Dynamic LUX in Sept 18, it's a UK 68 plate and I love it,…………... except for that damn ticking sound on the seatbelt pillars front and rear. You don't hear it too much when it's cold but get a little bit of sunshine and that damn ticking noise reappears. It's embarrassing that Landrover still haven't resolved this problem. I also have a lot of wind noise in the cabin to the extent I often check that the windows are closing correctly. The car cost over £51,000 WTF is going on?? It's just embarrassing. It's going back into the garage tomorrow so they can have another go at resolving the problem. I've told them if it isn't fixed once and for all this time then they are to instigate their vehicle rejection procedure as I'll be handing it back to them. No one should pay good money for a car with these issues. WIsh I'd kept my Mercedes ML, or bought the new badged GLE

Biggest annoyance I’ve found on my 2018 model is that the folding mirrors open when you unlock the car (instead of when you power it on) and that it ALWAYS pulls away in 2nd gear even in sport mode but I guess that’s not a lot. Reliability wise, it’s been good but it is still early days. Measuring up to a Q5 will always be a hard task.
