Here in England it is cold dark and wet for most of the year. You need to do a range test with the lights on, heaters full and the wipers going full speed and maybe the demisters on too.

@frymate1261
@frymate1261 3 жыл бұрын
Well the normal stuff like the lights/wipers etc are run off the 12volt battery like a petrol car, so no range loss. Even if they were running off the battery pack the range loss would be very very little. But the heater is something else, the Honda has a lot more energy efficient heat pump so the range loss would be around 7-10 miles.
@andyrbush
@andyrbush 3 жыл бұрын
@@frymate1261 Surely all the electrics on an E car drain the same battery. We all know how lights left on will empty a regular lead acid overnight unless they are LED.
@Dr_Monitor
@Dr_Monitor 3 жыл бұрын
That's the problem with electric cars, the advertised range may be 500 miles, but that's at ideal conditions. In most cases, you're gonna be tethered to a charging station, and you'll be getting maybe 100 miles if you're blasting the heater or AC, plus, of you listen to music, that burns through battery power too. Battery technology just isn't good enough for electric cars to fully replace gasoline, diesel, and natural gas cars for at least 20 years.

@@prudx2775 it's actually exactly normal for a 2020 EV, it has a smol battery so it gets a smol range, the Mazda MX-30 EV has the same range too. They're trying to minimise the environmental impact these city cars cause when they will only do 20 miles per day anyway, also trying to get the price down but it makes no sense carrying an extra 250KG around and mining all the materials to make that 250KG of battery pack to get 3-400 miles of range when even with 120 miles of range it's never going to see below 70% charge for a large number of users (once chargers are more common which they will be), won't be until probably 2030 that 80kWh or larger packs can be light enough and cheap enough for a car in this price range, which is fine as new petrol cars will still exist until then for everyone who still needs the extra range.

I'm leasing a car and it says in my contract I don't have to pay for any maintaince and still have warranty yet they always try to charge me. Also they broke my radio attena once and wanted to charge me 200 euros exclusive of the man hours and VAT. I would never advice anyone to go to a big dealer if you don't want to get scammed, sure small dealers can do the same but its not that hard to find a good 3rd party one right now. Its the price though thats the issue. For £400 a month I can buy some pretty tasty cars and afford to run them. Some days even round about I do over a hundred miles, if it did 120 miles, and was cheap enough to have as a second car, I could see the point, but as it stands? Nah, if I pay that much it needs to do all of what I need, all of the time. the Model 3 would be my choice IF I was going to buy a new car, 250 miles would cover 90% of my driving, with the range extended to 350, that'd cover 100%

@@citizenkane2349 it's a small car, so the volume of the fuel tank would be reduced anyhow. It has close to 0 cargo space, so it's already very unpractical for a weekend getaway. Meh. Use a car like this for your daily commute, and a diesel wagon for the weekend.
@Truckziller
@Truckziller 3 жыл бұрын
@@citizenkane2349 Small Cars actually have a smaller tank volume. You just don't notice it because the range is roughly the same in most cases. That's because the amount of energy in 1 kg of fuel is much higher compared to a battery, that's basically the only big problem for EVs that needs to be fixed.

@@weeblz9562 So you're saying you drive more than 300 miles a day? Thing is, in order for it to get better, you need more people adopting it. Yes, they don't work in some cases, and they're not for everyone, but for me as an example, I do about 300 miles per week commuting. Plenty of range for me. Just because you think it's garbage in your eyes, doesn't mean that it's garbage for everyone! Look back to when we were using steam powered vehicles. Go check out their range. Before petroleum based fuels became the main stay. Progress takes time.

@@promethbastard I don't disagree, progress does take time however, in my country they aren't waiting the time required for the progress to catch up. My home is 220 miles from my head office so I would literally have to extend an already torturous journey by many hours to recharge in the middle. Also, technology adoption is not the path to achieving improvement, voicing concerns and highlighting pain points is what will lead to positive change.

@Blue Angel My primary vehicle is a modern, efficient turbo diesel dual cab that does long trips to the airport for my work, camping, towing and carrying dirtbikes out to the bush. Our second car does my wife's short local work and shopping runs and could be plugged in at home at night to charge. The Honda's projected price would place it at least $15,000 Aud above what I paid for my infinitely more useful 4x4 Ute.... It makes no sense if the aim of the manufacturers is to coax the general public away from ICE vehicles. Love the Honda e, and would also like a Kona electric, pricing means they are not a sensible choice for owners, they're a feel good purchase.

@Blue Angel Thanks for your lecture on Car Culture 😁👍 An electric car certainly will help local air quality over an internal combustion fleet of vehicles. There are many whole of life studies which prove an EV to be slightly better for the environment from the ground to the grave. Most negative studies don't take into account the extraction and processing of the fossil fuels for the ICE vehicles. All that said, my purpose and usage of this Honda is perfect for its intent. Short frequent trips and charged via the solar panels on our house. They are torquey and fast enough for the intended use. I just can't see how they expect to sell them at the crazy asking prices. I AM a car person, that's why I'm in the particular Ute I have. When new it was the highest 4 cylinder torque rating in its class and also offers excellent fuel economy while on the highway. I raced rally cars for years, drove in a stunt team and still ride dirt bikes.... The Honda is an interesting car, it's just over priced.
