I would suggest having something to say back if anyone says anything negative. I wish I'd told someone I was picked on mercilessly at school for being glow in the dark white, and perhaps they might have suggested it to me. Even if you respond with something positive to a negative comment, you got to say something, and I think that can be really empowering x

Not true at all. I’ve been diagnosed with severe cystic acne and it did take a lot of products from my dermatologist to finally find the one that worked but we did find one that worked it’s just a guessing game of what’s going to be effective on your skin and also have to be very strict on your routine. I not just had it on my face but my back and arms. Tretinoin and antibiotic was what finally worked for me.

I've suffered with acne my entire adult life. Once I was at work and someone asked, "what's wrong with your face?" I explained that I had severe acne. and they replied, "you know they make creams for that." .. if you have never lived with moderate to severe acne, *do not* give anyone "acne advice." be supportive and treat them like how you would want to be treated.

I had my face packed with pimples and scars in my teens. I had lost all hope and I was crying and was totally under depression. I had totally given up when my aunt suggested me a great skin specialist. When I went to the doc she told me these things: 1. Identify what food triggers your acne 2. Don't let your face get oily wash face with sulphur soap. 3. DO NOT use makeup. Don't cover the acne and pack it with chemicals which won't let your skin breathe. Instead heal the acne. 4. No junk food. 5. Don't take stress. Relax. 6. Use all meds by the dermatologist on time as instructed. 7. Use non comedigenic physical sunscreen either containing zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. 8. Don't touch your pimples and pop them. My skin is flawless now. The scars are also gone. Acne IS curable. Go to a skin doc. A good skin doc. Don't give up. Please. And don't make acne worse with makeup.

When you suffer from acne, it can take up your whole mental capacity, sometimes it’s all you think about from morning to night. Plus the physical pain is a constant reminder that it’s there. There’s only so many hours in the day. You can only try so many products, diets, in a period of time to where you are exhausted mentally etc. People who haven’t suffered with severe acne don’t understand. They will say “just try this or that” or “don’t just accept it, you need to heal yourself” goodness people can only take so much before they are TIRED! This doesn’t mean they have given up. Sometimes the stress of all the advice and treatments just make the acne worse. I healed mine after 7 years, it years to fix mine, and people giving unsolicited advice doesn’t help. You don’t know what I tried!! I healed mine going to the derm and getting a specific treatment, and then cutting out all products focusing on healing my skin barrier. But just bc that’s how I healed doesn’t mean you will heal from it, so I don’t give advice bc it’s not gonna help the person, it just stresses them out.

Thank you for putting yourself out there. It makes others who deal with ance feel normal. It hard because the first thing people look at is the face. I started breaking out by age eight. It was terrible when I was a teenager. Know as an adult, I get some cystic ance but more dealing with my scars. As an adult, my doctors told me its a hormone imbalance, so they put me on. Wow -beautiful- both the story and the girls! Be strong all you girls out there. I know what it feels like. For 15 years, I had psoriasis on my face. People used to tell me to wash my face as I was covered in white flakes and bright red skin. People would stare at me at work, and ignore my at social gatherings. Each day was a fight to get up and go to work. But finally I just accepted it, and my life changed for the better. I knew I was beautiful inside. One day I woke up and it was gone. Suddenly people treated me different -i was "cool" and woman would approach me. But, I know now that that's all skin deep, and never will forget that real "beautify" comes from a good heart and faith. Stay strong!

I stumbled on to this video somehow, and thought I'd share it with my daughter who has the same struggles, and thought what an amazing encouragement these young ladies are. But as I was reading some of the comments, I am saddened by how society has made so many young ladies feel ugly, when that couldn't be further from the truth. I want to tell you all something that some may have a hard time understanding, but I know for a fact that life's hardships are what give us our greatest character, and our compassion for others, and this is really all that matters in life. To be honest, in my later years of life, I have realized that the people who have some form of degenerative disease, malformity, or other outward so called blemishes, are the most blessed of all people, because they are the ones who aren't walking around trying to pretend that they are something they're not. It is the rest, who live a life of pretend, in a world of make believe. So though I'm well aware of the struggle, I just want to give you encouragement that sometimes our blemishes are our blessings, and all God's children are made in His image, which is absolutely BEAUTIFUL. God bless.

I love every bit of her but with the idea of Standards of how one is supposed to look made impossible to speak to her even when other girls placed her on the bottom tier of beauty. acne is honestly the worst thing that happened to me. I remember not wanting to leave the house even if i had makeup on or none, i felt so disgusted when i looked at the mirror and when i went outside it jist feels like everyone is watching you. I started accutante almost 1 year ago and it saved my life, i feel so much more confident, my skin still isn't perfect but my confidence is slowly coming back again! Also, i don't notice when other people have acne? maybe because i have it myself? when i talk to someone ( without or with acne ) I always look at their eyes, because i know how bad i felt when people would look at my face and not at my eyes.

"wash your face, drink water, use serums" cystic acne is a medical condition! i never had acne in my life, but i have to take a high dose of progesterone + progesterone only birth control to stop my periods because it was a health concern. it gave me cystic acne. hormones affect how bacteria interacts with your skin at a very deep level, where no amount of non-rx face wash can come close to touching. there is no amount of healthy eating that will solve it. i'm taking spironolactone, a diuretic, that has finally worked, along with topical aczone and a face wash for seborrheic dermatitis. and it is seriously a medical problem -- it impacted my mental health severely to not go outside in confidence. acne is not a surface level problem, and people with acne deserve as much care as anyone else with a chronic condition (of which i have multiple myself). cystic acne hurts just as bad as my hearing loss sometimes.

I remember sitting in my room in the morning, crying in front of the mirror because I tried so hard to cover up my pimpels before going to school but It just did not worked out and I was so desperate. However how much make up I put in my face it just did not looked good so I was hiding behind my hair. Everytime when I slept somewhere else, or even beeing a week in summercamp with my friends, the struggle trying to hide my akne was sooo real. I tried to only wash my face when it was dark, so no one would see me. I got up extra early and hided in a toilet cubicle to put some make up on... Today my skin slowly clears up and I am becoming much more confident. However no one should feel embarrassed about akne. Now I know I missed a lot of fun with my friends backthen because I thought so much about my skin. These women are showing us that you do not have to have perfect skin to be beautiful. I love their energy!

Glad that you shared this to inspire so many souls who always get so much from people that they can't get out of the bed too. It exhausts you both physically and mentally though it's just a skin condition and not something as deadly as cancer. I hope ignorant people would understand that.

I think it's really important to be confident with acne and still love ur skin no matter what as acne isn't something that can be controlled just by using products, taking medications, etc. Body positivity is talked so much, yet not a lot of people talk about skin positivity, embracing ur skin or normalizing acne. Think of acne as a chance to learn how to truly love urself and skin when you can't love ur appearance. That's what I've been trying to do and that feels a lot better. I've been struggling with skin issues for years and I could never accept my skin, hated my self, and cried all day, but once I embraced my skin and tried to love my skin no matter what, it became a lot easier to deal with acne mentally and emotionally.

Went to the doctor and had tests done, turned out I had severe hormonal imbalance and some other medical issue I never knew I had. Am taking medication for it up to this day, along with supplements. I get blood work done every quarter. Had to cut down on sugar, change my diet and use organic beauty products.

I am so sorry for her that she has to live with this. I hope she will find a solution for her acne because, it not only causes mental health issues, the inflammations can also really hurt... Nobody should have to live with pain every day. No physical pain, no mental pain. I have moderate acne and have also always had to find out where it came from and why I had it. I am so thankful youtube exists because it is a source of so much information on how people cleared their skin without taking the pill or roaccutane. For me especially the video's from Cassandra Bankdon and Allie Glines have helped soooo much.

My mother had cystic acne in her teens, way back in the 1940s and also when she was in her twenties. She grew up in a rural farming family. I know her acne made her feel much less attractive than she was, she was beautiful, even then. Mom's acne cleared up on its own slowly between her 20s and 30s. The change wasn't due to any treatment.. Mom has speculated it was perhaps hormonal change because she had my sister and I in rapid succession. Mom was initially left with large pores on her cheeks but they shrank over the years. Mom says she never let her acne and large pores bother her after she left her hometown. She joined the military at 21 and had a lot on her mind. Mom dated a lot, her beauty, and southern charm must've made men blind to her skin issues. My mom and dad met while on base and mom left military service after they married. Momhas had a very interesting full life, she traveled, rubbed elbows with many rich and famous and they adore her.. Mom is beautiful inside and out and has had a happy full life. She's been a widow now for 7 years, she's 89 now and hopes to live to be at least a hundred. She had a brain bleed last year and battled through months of rehab to get back to normal again. Her recovery was amazing. My mom is still a beautiful woman. I think that her having had cystic acne in her youth contributed to her becoming a strong independent person. The injustice of it gave her a fighting will, an independent spirit that none of her sister's had. I hope that everyone with cystic acne has it clear up and go away as my mom's did, but if not stay strong and realize you're much more than your skin. If you're interesting, good, kind inside people will see it. Anyone that only views you from the surface really isn't worth having in your life anyway.
